Crafting Backpacks, New Leveling Items, and More!


Arenanet have announced some new updates for the September 2014 feature pack.  New crafting backpacks, leveling items, and profession-specific loot tuning are among them.  Click here to read the official announcement.

These new weapons and armor help crafters get ahead of the game, but we also want crafting to have a strong visual reward so players can show off what they’ve accomplished so far. That led us to the creation of the new Crafter’s Backpacks. They’re only accessible by practicing a crafting discipline, and each discipline gets a unique look that progresses as you advance and builds on top of what you’ve already made! These backpacks don’t take much to build, but they’ll guide players up from novice to adept crafting in each discipline, bring in new looks to your Wardrobe, and come with a bit more combat flexibility than many players might have seen.

Improvements Galore


Arenanet has announced some coming general game improvements in the September 2014 feature pack.  Among these changes are removal of the "dungeon owner," an updated crafting UI, and performance updates that include desired optimization.  You can read the full announcement here.

We‘re always working on the performance of the game with every update, but we have a big batch of improvements coming in this feature pack. We’ve changed the way many of the underlying systems work, making them more cost-effective, which will reduce how often players will be seeing issues caused by performance. This is most notable in large combat situations like WvW and at the PvE world boss events. These improvements affect both the server and client performance, so in these situations, you should see increased frame rates as well!

Continued Improvements to the Megaserver System


Arenanet just posted an article on the Guild Wars 2 website in which they outline the first non-PVP/WvWvW changes in the September 2014 feature patch.  The first set of changes all relate to quality of life improvements for the megaserver system.  Changes include global guild influence, global guild upgrades, and special map copies for guild content.

Since first introducing it in the April 2014 Feature Pack, we’ve kept on improving the megaserver system on a regular basis. A lot of those changes were made during regularly scheduled updates and were targeted at improving what we call “integrity” metrics, which are how we measure how well the system works to get you into a map instance with people from your party, guild, home world, and language. Because the evolution was continuous and smooth, you might not have noticed much change, but the metrics got a lot better over time as we kept making the system smarter. We won’t stop there: with the second feature pack, we’re releasing some new systems and working to make the core system more effective!

Announcing the World vs. World Fall Tournament 2014


Arenanet has announced the next World versus World tournament.  The tournament, which begins on 2 September 2014, will last for one month, and have four match-ups.  Rewards and achievements will be given each week.  Check out the full announcement on the official website!


We’re excited to announce that the next World vs. World tournament is starting on September 12, the Friday after our September 2014 Feature Pack launches! We’d also like to welcome our Chinese players to experience their first WvW tournament! We’ve got some exciting changes in store for the World vs. World Fall Tournament 2014, so let’s get to it!

Tournament Duration
Our next tournament will be an extremely intense, exciting four-week-long tournament battle. The shorter format will ensure that worlds will not be repeatedly matched against one another, which will more closely resemble a true Swiss-style tournament. Each matchup will be unique, and every win—or upset—will make a huge difference!
  
Posttransfer Lockouts
It’s important to maintain a sense of loyalty during a WvW tournament, but we also want players to have the freedom to move around. In the past, we balanced these goals by implementing a lockout period after transfers, which lasted for the current and subsequent matchups. The purpose of this feature was to encourage players to give transferring careful consideration by imposing some risk to the reward. Because the World vs. World Fall Tournament 2014 will only last four weeks, we will not be enforcing these lockout periods.

Achievements
For the fall tournament, participating players will earn a weekly achievement based on completing a small number of events in World vs. World. This differs a bit from previous tournament achievements in which players were required to complete several of each event, such as capturing keeps and supply camps. We wanted to experiment with a simplified version of the achievements to encourage players to focus more on playing WvW, rather than checking off an objective checklist. Siege objectives, defend your land, and you’ll be rewarded! Complete all four weekly achievements to unlock the meta-achievement and earn this tournament’s title, “Mist Treader”!

Reward Structure
We want to continue to reward a world’s overall performance in the tournament, but we’d like to focus the incentives on each world’s struggle for dominance each week. To accomplish this, the arrangement of rewards distribution will be slightly different in this tournament. The majority of rewards will be dispersed at the end of each matchup based on your world’s performance. This means that even if your world doesn’t come out on top of your entire league, the efforts you put forth in each match will be rewarded!

Achievements
After completing The Dragon’s Reach, Part 2, showcase your tactical mastery as a hero of Tyria by completing challenging, episode-related achievements.

Rewards
  • Players who completed their Mysterious Vine and received a Cultivated Seed may now create new exotic and ascended back items and a plant that feeds on Bloodstone Dust.
  • The Monkey King tonic and a new miniature now have a chance of dropping from new bosses throughout Dry Top.
  • Players can now earn higher discounts from Zephyrite Merchants.
  • The new Arid Region reward track is now available in PvP.

  • Vitality gained via the Applied Fortitude effect is no longer bolstered on lower level characters.

  • New Chaos weapon skins are available for the next four weeks from Black Lion Weapons Specialists for the introductory price of one Black Lion Weapon Ticket. Black Lion Weapon Tickets can be found in Black Lion Chests.
  • The price of Ley Line weapon skins has increased to 5 tickets.
  • A Mini Mordrem Leyleecher is now available in the Toys category of the Gem Store for 500 gems.

The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2 Begins on August 12!


Arenanet has announced that the Living Story continues on the 12th of August, 2014, with the Dragon's Reach: Part 2.  A story of uneasy allies and a rising threat, this release continues the adventure from the first part.  Check out the announcement page, and the video on that page!

A historic summit is about to take place in the spreading shadow of Mordremoth’s advance, but not all of the world leaders have agreed to attend. Can you convince uneasy allies to come together and cooperate, or will lingering tensions spell Tyria’s doom?

The Dragon’s Reach, Part 1

With an Elder Dragon’s corruption spreading, the heroes of Tyria set out in an attempt to gather allies to meet this new threat. But with problems of their own close to home, will world leaders add their support or just introduce more challenges?

Achievements
After completing The Dragon’s Reach, Part 1, players can showcase their tactical mastery as heroes of Tyria by completing challenging episode-related achievements.

Rewards
  • New kites can be found in the Buried Locked Chests throughout Dry Top. Kite types include:
    • Crystal Shard Kite
    • Ventari Follower Kite
    • Prosperity Mine Kite
  • Gentt now trades Sandy Bags of Gear for Unidentified Fossilized Insects.
  • The ambrite short bow, Vespidae, has been renamed to Culicidae.

  • Black Citadel:
    • Discovering the Hero’s Forum point of interest will no longer cause it to shift position on the world map.
  • Blazeridge Steppes:
    • Fixed a bug that caused monster waves to respawn immediately after being killed in the “Defend Brokentooth Maw” and “Defend the engineers repairing Brokentooth Maw” events.
  • Bloodtide Coast:
    • The shark in the “Kill the Deep Sea Shark” event now has a boss icon overhead.
    • Fixed a gender/model mismatch of a Covington Cannoneer.
  • Cursed Shore:
    • Fixed a bug to stabilize Halla Corpseflayer’s position during the interaction at Meddler’s Summit.
    • Added a marker to the “Defend Priory Scholar Zepa as she searches the village of Ewan for ancient artifacts” event so the event is easier to find during its preparation phase.
  • Divinity’s Reach:
    • Divinity Guide [Information] NPCs will now correctly mark the Seraph Headquarters on the world map.
  • Dredgehaunt Cliffs:
    • In Dostoev Sky Peak, the Veteran Hulking Pyrite Elemental correctly displays a boss icon during the “Stop the hulking pyrite elemental” event.
  • Gendarran Fields:
    • Fixed a bug preventing players from removing the crippled condition from wounded soldiers when using the Medical Kit bundle near Nebo Terrace.
  • Harathi Hinterlands:
    • Shining Blade Kimber and the trio of centaur war councilors in the “Help Shining Blade Kimber find her husband” event chain now have event icons overhead.
    • The Veteran Bandit Leader in the “Intercept the prisoner caravan” event now has a boss icon overhead.
    • The locations of the four Seraph squads in the “Defend Seraph forces at Bridgewatch Camp from the Modniir assault” event have been given event icons on the world map.
  • Malchor’s Leap:
    • Fixed a wall around the Village of Wren to prevent players from walking through the wall.
  • Mount Maelstrom:
    • Fixed the Crucible of Eternity dungeon icon on the world map to hide correctly if the area is undiscovered.
  • Plains of Ashford:
    • The Iron Legionnaire escorted in the “Kill the veteran lava shaman” event correctly displays a shield icon overhead.
  • Sparkfly Fen:
    • Fixed a minor technical issue with Tequatl’s Hardened Scales buff in the “Danger at Fabled Djannor” event to alleviate CPU spikes.
  • Straits of Devastation:
    • The Champion Risen Krait Nimross in the “Destroy the Risen krait nimross and free the trapped Pact crew” event now has a boss icon overhead.
  • The Grove:
    • Updated conversations with NPCs Beidyre and Androel to allow non-sylvari players to converse with them.
Dungeons
  • Twilight Arbor Story Mode:
    • Fixed Mr. Sparkles’s character model mismatch.
  • Ascalonian Catacombs Explorable Mode:
    • Fixed several issues causing Detha’s story path to stall.
Personal Story
Items
  • All recipe unlock items have received new icons. Icons now match the rarity and type of the output item. Similarly, the rarity of all recipe items now matches the output item’s rarity.
  • Fixed a bug causing Chaos of Lyssa, Chaos of Lyssa (Infused), Light of Dwayna (Infused), and Shadow of Grenth (Infused) to become soulbound when equipped. All soulbound versions of these items will become account bound.
  • Updated the karma vendors at the Orrian temples to each sell armor sets with a single stat combination.

Engineer
  • Healing Turret:
    • Cleansing Burst: Added a skill fact for conditions removed: 2.
Guardian
  • Hammer Swing / Hammer Bash:
    • Fixed a bug preventing the number of targets skill fact from displaying.
  • Sanctuary:
    • Fixed a bug that caused the Master of Consecrations trait to create a duplicate skill fact.
Necromancer
  • Lich Form:
    • Deathly Claws: Added a pierces skill fact.
    • Marked for Death: Updated the damage skill fact to correctly scale with the Spiteful Marks trait.
Ranger
  • Piercing Arrows:
    • Added pierces and targets per arrow skill facts to affected skills.
  • Mighty Swap:
    • Added a combat only trait fact.
  • Vigorous Training:
    • Added a combat only trait fact.
Warrior
  • Fan of Fire:
    • Added pierces and targets per arrow skill facts.
  • Combustive Shot:
    • Fixed a bug that caused the damage skill fact to display a lower amount than the actual damage when traited with Burst Mastery.
World vs. World
  • Updated the names on past WvW tournament world-placement achievements.
  • The Toxic Unveiling Volley skill no longer shows up on an Arrow Cart’s skill bar until the skill has been unlocked.
  • Guild Arrow Cart skill-damage tooltips now properly reflect their superior-level damage.
Gem Store
New Items and Promotions
  • The new Home Portal Stone is now available in the Services category for 900 gems. Players can instantly travel to their home city instance and return to their original location on demand.
  • Mini Scruffy is now available in the Toys category of the Gem Store for 500 gems.
  • The Permanent Hair Stylist Contract is now a very rare drop from Black Lion Chests for the next 2 weeks only.
  • The new Endless Monkey King Tonic is now a very rare drop from Black Lion Chests.
Bug Fix
  • Mini Flame Legion Effigy is now the same scale as other exotic minis.

Dragon's Reach: Part 1


In an official preview from Arenanet on Massively's site, the next Living Story update was outlined, titled "Dragon's Reach."  Dragon's Reach will launch on 29 July 2014.  Steven Waller, Arenanet's Associate Game Director, also dropped a lot of hints and information at lore, and at tensions that are arising between the races of Tyria.  You can read the full preview here, and view the trailer here.
