Default Une interview exclusive pour GW2 |mondespersistants

My french isnt that good, but with the bing translator you can read alot of interesting things in this interview: http://gw2.mondespersistants.com/?article=25

This is everything I got out of the interview(that is, if I've read it correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong french people):

- Asura Portals will let you use map travel
- Guilds Are in(for anyone doubting)
- You are indeed able to breathe underwather
- Dragons will play some kind of role in PvP
- there is NO limitation to the size of the team(probably pointing towards the World vs World, seems most reasonable)

And here's the original text for you to read:

Quote:
MondesPersistants : What's in store for Guild Wars when Guild Wars 2 is released? Are you going to stop support it and wait for everyone to move to the new one?
Chris Lye, Global Brand Director for Guild Wars 2 : Of course not. We’re actively supporting Guild Wars and if anything continue to grow the Guild Wars Live team.

MP : There's still some time until Guild Wars 2 is released. What is planned for Guild Wars until then?

CL : In the near term we’re introducing a new Sealed Deck PvP format for that we’re very excited about. This PvP game type involves teams of players creating builds from a limited pool of skills. We’ve got a lot of other plans, but nothing we can talk about at this time.

MP : The max level in Guild Wars 2 is incredibly higher that in Guild Wars, over 150 we heard. Why such a leap between the two?

CL : We haven’t made any announcements about the level cap in Guild Wars 2, aside from the fact that it will be higher than 20.

MP : How are you going to handle the skills ? Pretty much like Guild wars, where skills are subtle and often counterbalanced with negative effects. Or will you change for something more "classic" in term of MMOs ?

CL : We’re not discussing game mechanics at this point, so we can’t really comment on that yet.

MP : IF they want to PvP in GW2, players will have to go in the Mists. Is that the place watched over by the gods that existed in Guild Wars 1, and where the pantheon fights took place?

CL : Yes, in Guild Wars 2, players will be able to travel into the Mists, the PvP environment that Guild Wars players will be familiar with. In the Mists, players can engage in battle against players from other worlds. The Mists themselves will be a large, persistent area shared by multiple worlds. And yes, these are the same Mists where the pantheon fights took place.

MP : What kind of PvP mode from GW1 will be available in GW2?

CL : In Guild Wars, players chose between two different types of characters: roleplaying characters who began at level one and had to travel through the PvE world to unlock PvP maps, and PvP characters who began at level 20 but couldn’t play roleplaying content. Guild Wars 2 simplifies all that with just one type of character that will be able to play both roleplaying and PvP content.
In Guild Wars 2, players will be able to travel into the Mists and participate in World-versus-World combat on a scale never before seen in a Guild Wars game. It will play out like a massive strategy game, with players from each world fighting to control more and more of the map. Players will always be on the same team as everyone else in their world, and there will be no limit to the size of the team.

This World-versus-World warfare will play out like a giant strategy game, with each world fighting to control more and more of the map. Players will find it easy to engage in this form of PvP, because they will always be on the same team as everyone else in their world, and there will be no limit to the size of the team. This World-versus-World combat will be on a scale never before seen in a Guild Wars game. In addition, players will also be able to join guilds and engage in Guild-vs-Guild combat. We’ll release more details about the PvP experience in Guild Wars 2 at a later date.

MP : In GW2, characters will be able to jump, run, and swim. Why introducing those features and how will that affect the gameplay?

CL : For Guild Wars 2, we wanted to take everything that we love about Guild Wars to the next level. The freedom of movement and environment interaction we'll be able to support in Guild Wars 2 allows us to make combat more dynamic and visually engaging than anything we've done before.

To encourage exploration, we’ve consciously made underwater exploration easy for players. We decided to err on the side of fun and provide players with a really convenient way of breathing underwater. Opening up underwater travel nearly doubles the explorable areas available to players. You won’t have to worry about drowning; just have fun and explore.

MP : Will there be Teleporter in Guild Wars 2, or will players have to use mounts and other transports means?

CL : One of the key features of Guild Wars 2 is the asura gates, which are portals that players can use to get from place to place. These gates will link different areas of Tyria together and make map travel possible.

MP : About the racial special powers, we already know that the norns can transform in bears. Anything you could tell us about the other races ?

CL : We definitely want racial abilities to have a large impact on how a character plays and feels. Each race has a primary ability that distinguishes it from all other races, such as the norn shape shifting that you mentioned. However, we’re not ready to discuss other racial abilities in detail at this point.

MP : With that many races, we can expect political tensions, and a world easily at war. Will guild wars 2 features wars between races ? or faction wars ? Can a guild be multiracial ?

CL : While there definitely will be some tension between the races, the main story of Guild Wars 2 is how they set aside their differences and band together against a common threat – the dragons. Reflecting that, guilds will definitely be multi-racial. Despite their differences, we won't be fighting players of other races. The core tenets in Guild Wars have always been consensual competition, accessibility, and being able to play with your friends. We didn’t want to fracture our player base by pitting the races against one another.

MP : Do Dragons have a role in PvP or are they involved only in PvE ?
CL : Dragons play a huge role in the story of Guild Wars 2 – they’re the ultimate enemy, primordial forces of nature. We can’t really discuss what role they will play in PvP right now, but the dragons cast their shadow over the entire Guild Wars universe.

MP : ArenaNet is famous for its original design and background. But dragons be dragons. They look probably like the most classic creatures of the Guild Wars world. Nevertheless, how did you work their design for Guild Wars 2? What did you do so your fans don't just go : "oh, dragons... meh" ?

CL : The Elder Dragons are ancient, elemental beasts, exponentially more powerful than any of the dragons players know from Guild Wars. They’re more powerful than the human gods or any other being that has ever been seen in Tyria. Fighting an Elder Dragon is like battling a hurricane or a tidal wave.

The article says that the dragons will be French, and if you are a foreigner and ask the dragon for directions in broken French, it will act as if it doesn't understand you and send you to the wrong capture point.

You forgot to mention this:

Quote:
et il n'y aura pas de limite à la taille de l'équipe.
This is from one of the PvP questions saying "there is NO limitation to the size of the team"

I still thought it would be maxed to like, a 100 (50 each) or something... but no limitations at all?

Gonna be epic battles! Long live my good internet connection (at least I hope so)

good thing i understand french..here some of the stuff said:

Q: we know that guild wars 2 is far from finished, what do you reserve for guildwars 1.
A: In short terms, we are going to introduce a new type of pvp called "Sealed Deck" , and we are really excited about it.That kind of pvp is made, so players will be giving a build with limited abilities, we have other projects but we cant talk about them at the moment

Also:
- No player limit for teams in world vs world.
- no breathing bar underwater, just alot of fun.
- no info if dragons will play a role in pvp he only said that they influence all the world.
- he said that fighting an ancient dragon is like facing a hurricane or a tidal wave.

and thats pretty much all the important things.

Can some one clarify "- Asura Portals will let you use map travel" - because if you have to go to a certain teleport spot to map travel... its not Map travel...

One of the characteristics of Gw2 will be the Asura gates, they are portals that players will use to travel from place to place. These doors will make it possible to link zones of tyria together, to enable map travel.

Hmm, I'm sure there's gonna be some kind of limit in the Mist.

Probably something similar to the Aion Abyss PvPvE area, which is basically just a huge map with both factions "living" in it at any time and players can either do free form FFA/Group PvP or fortress sieges.

I have the feeling GW2 The Mist might be similar, but with more direct objectives.

I hope that when we go underwater, things such as clothing and hair have a floating effect, and that when coming out of the water you look wet.

(furry wet charr is going to be cool ;D)
