As long as we get updates, I guess the wait won't be too hard to endure if it's released in '11...

Well I am sure A.net realises they need to take their time and make it well so they don't end up like all the failed MMO's that rushed their development.

Definitely. I'm not saying they shouldn't. I'm saying that if it will be released in mid - late '11, we'd all be less impatient with updates (which we know we will get at the beginning of this year).

Very late 2010 or early 2011. Holiday season 2010 would be awesome.

I would not expect them to encourage significant feedback from the player base for GW2, given that they already have a successful franchise... (They already know that they can produce a game that will sell.)

I would expect, however, that they would look at the beta to help uncover bugs. And I would hope that fixing a bug is not as much work as re-engineering some major aspect of the game (which could result from serious negative feedback).

I got the impression by their tone and choice of words that they felt that they didn't need an extended beta this time around. And I am encouraged by that optimism.

I am not waiting for GW 2 to be released (its going to be a long W8) I just want to see more of the gameplay maybe in a fully in-game trailer that reveals gameplay aspects.

I say sometime 2010, why, because anet stated that they will make a splash of information leading to Beta, the splash has already started and they said that gameplay information early 2010, which points to beta sometime after that, which possible leads to GW2 out around the 5th year of the orginal game.

oct. 23th 2010...I mean, well, if we are throwing out random dates (this guess is purely without any forethought and has a 0/0 percent chance of being right)

If they are truly going to wait til 2011, then I think they were premature with the trailer. 2010 is going to be a tight year though especially with possibility of D3, SWTOR, and WoW:Cataclysm. Most of the guesses put those three in the second half of 2010. I want a 5th year anniversary release, but we likely won't have any better idea until they start discussing gameplay.

For ANet to reveal a full gameplay trailer I would expect the later half of 2010. Take a look at any games coming out on console at the moment. You do not taunt the fanbase by showing them gameplay 2 years before the release of the game.

ANet announced the game even before production so yes some people were becoming impatient but after you start the hype machine you need to maintain it so that it doesn't shut down.
ANet should know this and if they are starting gameplay facts earlier next year (presuming that they don't want a large gap between the lore and the gameplay uncovers) and to keep the hype running smoothly you need to space out your information well, but seeing as we are probably going to start the gameplay details in the earlier months of next year I can see them explaining enough of the games functions by mid Q3 at which time beta could start. I'm expecting Q4.

Theres my prediction.

Well it has been two years so they probably felt obliged to talk about it now that they are finally getting stuff to show and they worked out most of the story.

Pessimistic?

Heck, I'd rather see a GOOD game released later then a crappy, rushed game released next month. Trying too hard to met a deadline has been many a downfall of some MMOs. Warhammer and Champion's Oline for instance would have been much better at launch if they had spent an extra 2-3 months on polishing the details.

Spring 2011 is my guess. An earlier release would be cool, but I'd be willing to wait if it is a quality game.
Edit: Doubt TOR is next year either. Or D3. Starcraft 2 is probably going to be released next year by Blizzard instead, and they won't want those two franchises competing with each other, so I expect D3 to still be a ways off. We have a better chance of seeing Star Trek online before any of those games.

No Diablo 3 in 2010; Blizzard revealed at Blizzcon that the two games they will release in 2010 will be SC2 and Cataclysm.

Didn't TOR already start closed Beta? I would think they would be coming out with starcraft next year

Try to remember that they are not building GW2 from the ground up. The fact that they are putting so much underwater just proves to me that they are really making good time and arent suffering from basic content famines at all.

Q3 2010 is not an unrealistic prediction, it's pretty logical.

ArenaNet actively improved GW1 throughout the years, GW2 will be the same.

It isn't going to be absolutely final release when it comes out, but it won't get neglected like many other mmos.

I enjoyed my time when GW was released ALOT, it didn't bother me that it only had half the features it does now.
