Anyway, I think they may be hoping for a Christmas release as GW2 would be a great game for younger audiences who can't finance their own subscriptions. It also gives Anet time to release all three of the novels and gives me time to save up for a new computer. But at this stage, I don't think even Anet know what month they'll be able to release GW2 in. |

I personally hope for a Public Beta sometime during Q2 2010 with a release during Q4 2010.
But seeing as that gives Anet competition with Starcraft 2 and Cataclysm, It is probably more realistic for an April 28, 2011 release. As much as I would hate to see it

As soon as AION tanks officially, we will hear GW2 date. I think NCSoft is pressuring ANET to push the dates out. Then again, who cares as long as the game is nice to play.

I'd say Q3-Q4 2010, or Q1-Q2 2011. We'll start getting gameplay info in about two/three months from now, and I guess beta would start ~August/September. Then a Hanukkah/Christmes release.
Actually, maybe even before it. like October. |

It won't be out when it's done - it will be out when it's done and so breathtaking that the character selection screen will send people to intensive care.

Beta will not be in August/September if it is a Christmas Release. I have a feeling that GW2 will be released Q4 2010. No way it is sooner than that. November release seems extremely realistic... esp if they already have a playable game at this point. I expect beta weekends to start in June/July. |

i find it reasonable to suspect gw2 to be released 6-12 months after the showcase of the first gameplay trailer (not debut trailer).

1) They already released information about the game, why tease your already waiting fan base with information if it's still two years away. 2) What else is going to be released at the time of GW2's release, is it going to conflict with a different in house release or is it going to have to fight for a place at the table with other games that are coming out at the same time. 3) When is the beta coming out, how are they going to handle the beta, how much time will the beta be in use before the game is released and how much feed back are they going to use based on the beta. 4) How much of the lore do they have set and are they going to wait until all of the novels are out before they release the game or are they going to use the novels to explain the story as they go along. I think the key factors are the novels and the beta. We know the first novel comes out in March or pretty close to then. and we know game play and mechs are coming out at the start of next year so I think a 2010 Q3 or Q4 release is very possible. One more thing, I don't think it's possible to have a complete MMO at release because MMOs are a work in progress. Even MMOs that been around for years are still getting patches, updates and content changes. Look at WoW and GW1, both are bascily the meat of the MMO world and are both always undergoing changes and getting certain aspects revamped. Hoping for a "prefect" and complete game at release is unrealistic. |

Cataclysm is an expansion, and I don't know how healthy WoW is going to be by the time Cataclysm is released. Blizzard has lost any dignity they had and turned the game into a very obvious cash cow before it dies, which is likely going to speed up said death. After all, the only thing that can kill WoW is itself... and greed. |

I would think that it would be released before the summer in 2010 that way all those kids would have a whole summer to enjoy it
![]() 2011 would make all these dosages of hype useless |

Ahhhh! the skeleton-like monsters will be coming out of the west by then. No, wait, the world will flood. No wait, Roland Emmerich doesn't know anything about Meso-American civilization. OH GOD, IT'S NOTHING IN PARTICULAR KILLING EVERYBODY!!!!!!

Starcraft 2 scratches a different itch from an MMO. People will play both games, and SC2 won't kill GW2 any more than it will kill WoW.
If GW2 launches with a huge amount of content, and completely blows people away with how great it is starting from level 1, then I can't see people ditching it to go back to Cataclysm to do more of the same, running on the aging WoW engine. Other recent MMOs failed because they were just so unpolished and/or un-fun, so people just went back to what they were playing before (or quit the genre entirely). People will jump ship when something significantly superior is released, and I think GW2 will be that game. |
