On the Original IP bit... I thought an original IP was something like Bayonetta or Assassin's Creed. A game which is released that is not already part of a franchise. How does Guild Wars 2 qualify for this?
Judging by who else won, I expect its considered a new IP because it is set in a different era then the first game, its still the same IP, but its no longer the same thing, if that makes sense? I mean, how is FF a new IP? Its been whoring itself out on street corners since the mid 90s, it sure as hell isn't getting any younger, but I'd guess that since its set in a new era, it is being counted as a "new" IP.

I really can't believe how many people do not grasp the concept of what an original IP is.

Even after its been explained in this thread 3 or 4 times, people are still going "I don't get it."

*sigh*

To be fair, FF games, besides the name, are entirely separate from each other. GW2 is a continuation of GW1, set in 'the familiar world of Tyria'. Can't really use that as a basis of comparison.

i am curious. how do they know if gw2 is original? all new and innovative stuff has yet to show up, but maybe they've seen more, but are not allowed to talk about/show it.

Each and every FF, save for a few, position themselves in COMPLETELY different worlds, with completely different background stories, countries, even races, etc.

As far as I know, FFXIV will be a complete new world, yet again.

And that's good too! Was beginning to think they got stuck in Ivalice,... (Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Advance & XII all took place in Ivalice).

Even if GW2 get the last place I will still buy and play it, lol. IMO, it's impossible not to buy the second version of a game I played (and still play) for +4000 hours.

BTW, when I read the word IP, something like 127.0.0.1 comes to my mind.

Yea, that's a computer IP.

We're talking about Intellectual Property.

All the GW2 interviews point to that. Fantasy with weapons, magic with technology, the sylvari spawning from trees... and it's Anet .

Hey this is great news, GW1 is and will always be a stand alone classic. I see GW the same way I see the BG series groundbreaking and totally one of a kind. GW2 is going to set records, it's going to own the market on release and i don't care with else is coming out at the same time. This is just the first award, there will be many others. It wasnt too along ago that the GW series was winning MMO and game of the year awards, people seem to forget that. Mini pets in the mags, full spread articles, Gamestop commericals it was all there.

Because of all this it just really confuses me as to why this game is being totally ignored by print mags in the States while they have orgasms over Starwars, Star Trek and WoW Cats which at this point we know just as much of those games as we do of GW2. I’ve seen full articles of what the new WoW “might be like” or predicting how space battles in Star Trek “might be”. But not a word on GW2, not a single paragraph. I just don’t get it. It’s not like people don’t follow or enjoy the GW series, GW1 is still going strong and this forum itself is proof that people are interested. I just don’t get it.

I believe i can explain, magazines print articles about games that either will sell the magazine (IE are super high profile new games) or that have developers/publishers that are willing to pay the magazine to feature them as advertising.

Guildwars two isnt high profile enough at the moment to warrent the former and ANET/NCsoft havent been doing the later hence no magazine coverage.

Star Trek online has been in beta. Many game websites with previews were written about those writer's experience in beta.

TOR and WoW both have way more info then GW2 as well (classes, gameplay mechanics, zone information).

This is mainly it.

How could you write an article on GW2? Try and think about that for a second, what exactly are you going to say? "Oh well, there will be a few new races, some event system we have no idea about and it will be F2P!"

I mean, with KotOR its like WE KNOW ALL OF THIS, AND ITS STAR WARS THUS IT HAS TO BE AWESOME.
