FO3 does fall flat on quite a number of issues - dodgy game engine that will randomly crash for no reason, having to spend ages to tweak with mods if you want to use any of them, no "escalation" of story and of "environment".. basically it suffer's a lot of the technical and gameplay drawbacks that Oblivion did/does (which is no surprise as it uses the same game engine..)

One thing that it does do better, and it's also one thing that can make it painful, is the ability to expand the game with player made mods. These mods can really make the game a whole lot better than standard (better armor, weapons, quest's, etc). Same as with Oblivion - but then again, pretty sad that to fix and improve a lot of issue's that should have been fixed b4 shipping... you have to install player made mods.

*shrugs* Still, I have enjoyed FO3.. at least what I've played. I've finished FO1 & 2 multiple times, never finished FO3.. if that means anything.
Agree 100%.

Fallout 1&2 wer great in itself. They didn't need mods, they didn't need fancy graphics. The story was interesting, combat was addicting and all in all, the games were very interesting. FO3 fealt like just a platform for countless of mods...just like Oblivion.

While I agree with F2, F1 was well....

It hasn't aged well.

At all.

Its very linear, the story is nothing amazing, and its just meh, I started with F3, then moved to F1 and barely had any interest in F2 because of how -bored- I was with F1, and just how it did not manage to live up to all the hype about it. F2 is great though, so much you can do, so many choices, so many various ways to go, all sorts of crazy fun things you can do in that game, thats the height of the series in my opinion.

As for Obsidian, you really have to look at their games differently, half of KotOR2 got cut, HALF THE GAME, so they had to come up with most of the end in a few weeks, throw it together, and launch it with absolutely no polish, so its not that big of a surprise what happened there, and if you actually look at what they did manage to get done with, its really damn good, better then KotOR in a LOT of places. Its the same with NWN2, they planned to add so much more, the engine was only mostly done, a bunch of quests were still not done, and it was just a mess when they launched it, but they had to launch it because they ran out of funds.

Look at Mask of the Betrayer, Planescape, or Fallout 2 to see what Obsidian can do if it has all the funds needed to finish a project, rather then the games that got rushed and thrown out just to pay the bills because the company that was paying them got impatient with them way to early in the project, and wanted to cut losses.

I bought Fallout 1 on steam.. and I am just now getting to the hang of the game. It had a big learning curve for me.. for the first hour or so. I can't give my whole take on it... but I like the point and click feel of it.

Can't

Interplay holds the rights for the franchise in the UK, and they recently did a minor re-release there, but they don't have the funds to really do that large of a re-release, and if I remember correctly, they only had a limited amount of copies because of this. With the US and rest of the world, Atari holds the rights to Planescape, Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights, and are refusing to "waste time" reselling "old junk" and instead are just hiring various studios to make crappy garbage ripoffs, like the Baldurs Gate : Dark Alliance series.

Nice. New armors look badass.

Now, here's hoping for romance! Looks like that one lady with the dog is one of the potential companions.

Mmmh interesting Yeah I'll definitely be checking this out. Lets hope that it fixes some of the Kinks that the first FO3 had.

I'd get Fallout 3 if I had a Ps3..not for PC..because I like shooters/shooter-type games on consoles.
Any pc will run Fallout 1 and 2 flawlessly, and If you look past the graphics... after all they were made over 13 or so years ago... and learn how to properly play them they can be amazing... they would not have had the fairly large and fanatic fan-base otherwise...

Unlike say Die by the Sword... that is right, you never heard of it and that is exactly my point.

Apart from that... Bethesda with Fallout 3 took the series in a direction where Black Isle would never have taken it, many of the decigions that were proper for the time with isometric graphics and turn based combat are hardly ever seen in any games today.. apart from few notable exceptions.

But do not despair, New Vegas will take place on the same territory as first two games (more or less) and will be made by several of the original developers from Black Isle... so... This Fallout 3 game will be a hell lot more like Fallout 1 and 2, will be made by mostly same people, take place in mostly same area and feature the true and Chaoticly Evil Brotherhood of Steel rather then the mutant friendly kind you see in Tactics and F3...

p.s. FPS gaming is for PCs, if you don't have a PC that can run modern fps games you do not go out and spend money on a console... you take same amount of money you would have spent on the games and the console and spend it on upgrading your current PC... If you dont aim high and spend money wisely you can get a decent midrange gaming pc for 400-600 bucks...
