Default Proper Female Warrior Armor [minor Alice spoiler]

[just as a warning, this might have minor spoilers for Alice in Wonderland, tho I'm pretty sure this is shown in the trailer]

So, other coolness of this movie aside, I really like the fact Burton went with a practical, no nonsense set of armor for Alice.

full display shot
close up display shot
another display case shot
trailer cap (I believe)

I like the total lack of molding in the breasts or any need for some form of cleavage. Plate armor was designed to both absorb hits as well as deflect them. Most female fantasy armors would cause the force of blows towards the center of the chest, rather than away. And this armor still looks pretty cool, at least imo.

Some of the female armors on p41 of the GW2 artbook are certainly an improvement over GW1, but I'd like to see more in the above trend. At least a few sets. There'll be plenty of sets for the omg-boobs crowd, as p40 shows.

I think the only MMO I can recall with armor more like this was Shadowbane. I believe the female "Lord's Armor", standard medieval plate style, used basically the same model between female and male, and had a similar breastplate to Alice's. Can't find any of my old SB screens tho...

Reminds me, one other movie that had this more practical style of armor was Elizabeth - the Golden Age.

Even tho more for show and troop morale, it still has the oh so practical breastplate design.

You do have to remember, this is a fantasy game, where the predominant player base is male. While I wouldn't care much if they covered up a little bit more, i don't see that happening. The best you can hope for is that the concept art you saw doesn't get changed much on its way to the game.

I agree with Joiry, I'd prefer realistic than "omg I wuntz bewbz!" concept art. But there's bound to be "boob armor" to go for said kind of people and even if you think about it realistically, if the boobs end up large enough, well either that'll be very bulky armor or you need two little "pop outs."

But yeah, I would like some flat female armor.

Gaming would not be where it is today, if there hadn't been Chain Mail Bikinis in every other game. "Realistically" the would not be any plate armor is Tyria to begin with. Wearing it slows you down to a crawl, which would mean magic users and ranged attackers eat you alive. Only by putting plate armor into the game, the game drives off the realism cliff and into fantasy physics land. Next stop there is of course shiny metal female nudity.

Plate armor isn't that restrictive as you might think. Most knights could run and handstand in a plate armor ;P

about battle bikinis - get rid of them and next thing we have is female players crying about their characters manly looks when they want a "girl".

Athariel, the female crowd can't be pleased. The most prominent members of the anti-battle bikini-group are female,... But if ANet would listen to them, a pro-battle bikini-group'll be started, of which the most prominent members are again female,...

Just don't even go there, lol.

GW female warrior armors were perfect if you ask me. Aion did it right with plate/chain armors too. But casters have to wear minimal cloth

I'm a guy and I think that bikini armors are pretty ridiculous...

Congratulations! You have the most powerful armor in the game, now you can jack-off to your avatar!

I would agree with Joiry in that more reasonable looking armor is more appealing to me. I also have a lot of friends who thing similarly...but we are few apparently.

Call it "carrot-on-a-stick" gameplay.

Sure... take a look at this:

Poor Jeanne d Arc would have suffocated if you dressed her in armor with waist this narrow...

my point being... artists create armors to suit their ends... and reflect the aesthetic ideals of the time... if it was nice to be have small waist and general well-fed look in early 1800s then this will be reflected in the art of the time.

Not to mention that there was as good as no armors made for females as they simply did not take part in fighting at the time they would have had plate armor...

So... Even if you do find females wearing armor they would be wearing male armor... (maybe with out the codpiece)

Even with films that are suppose to be serous in nature and at least moderatly acurate historically like Jeanne-d-arc from 1999 you still see the pesky artists trying to keep Female actors as females by leaving a convenient Gap between the plates to show off the balloons... Exposing both of the lungs and the heart to be stabbed or pierced with arrows, daggers, shrapnel etc etc (chain-mail providing only protection against glancing cuts) Even if Milla doesn't really have anything noteworthy to show off in that department.

as seen here:

P.S. this would be the result of what you are proposing:

(look at armor set 2,3,4)

What you get is a bland warrior with a smaller profile... and narrow waist

Those are perfect, for a start ... if i truely want sexual fantasy there are other places to go besides games ... now i am all for choise so i wont hold it against anyone that wants to 'show it all', but it be nice if there were also choises to the other side of the spectrum ...

And it would look good.
Better than some of our current female sets that look like they have been scrapt together out of halve a male armor, without making up for the missing material.
You could include curves, just not that second hand metal scap bikini.

Jeanne D Arc was awesome I would like to see those armors in GW2 instead of the traditional sexy armors.

I'm not 100%. But having the Norn thinking in mind, i don't think Norn females dress like they do because the males want them to. I think they dress like that because... they want to

Having the female human thinking in mind, i can see more "breastless" armor parts in gw2

Though, i think the optimal thing for anet to do, is to split armors 50-50, some breastless and some typical game armors/current gw1 stile.

Samies. A bit of a bump for comfort ability would be fine, but not something that perfectly captures the mold.

Personally for me, I could care less about realism in fantasy video games. I care about whether or not the armor looks cool, not whether it would protect me in real life.

That being said, I have a ton of armor for my warrior in GW1, and not all of it is the skimpy kind. I own primeval, elite kurzick, and ancient, which are all armor sets that aren't bikinis. I then also own Elite glads (bikini armor), vabbian (shows midriff) and Ascalon (very short skirt). I generally mix and match rather than wearing a full set, but the point is still that some would protect me in real life and others (elite glads) obviously wouldn't. I could care less about that, I like what looks good. And if plate armor from original guild wars is any indicator, I would say no thank you to making all armor that way.

And as for the concept art picture or the armor, the best looking to me is the roman style one that has the opening in the midriff area. mainly because the gloves aren't huge and bulky and look as though they could just fall off at any moment.

I don't want freaking bikini armor, I mean come on it doesn't have to be releastic but do you see our male characters running around halfnaked most of the time ? NO !!!! Because they should be 'manly' and females should be half naked 99% of the freaking time.

Seriously when you want a bad-ass armor for a female you can't even find one because most of them just represent bikini's.

If you want that kind of fantasy play Blade & soul...

People who know better say that realism is important in fantasy rpgs.

lol Huginn, nice pic.

On topic, I'm not a fan of Tim Burton at all so I'd hate seeing anything resemble Alice in Wonderland in Guild Wars. But I guess that's just an example; I wouldn't mind seeing some more "realistic" warrior armor for females, but I'm not big on always having to wear heavy, bulky, clanky clothes even if I am a warrior. Once again, more customization/options = better.

You are in luck then, because armor has been divided into classes, instead of professions. So, as a warrior, you can wear light, medium, and heavy armor. (this last bit is speculation, you might only be able to wear your armor class) Plenty of options there.

This has just made me remember to wonder... what does a female charr look like? Is it like dwarves and we can't tell the difference? Do they have a largely different figure?
