I think it would be good to create a fame system in PvE basically because after you hit level 20 in GW1 there is no point in doing side quests which I love doing.
So if you earned fame points for doing quests then players who decide to do a lot of quests will have it show a little more. Like I have almost all the quests done in all the campaigns. |

The problem for me (with ranks) is just that it gets hard for someone starting out to get "picked" to join a team. I thoroughly hated PVP for this. It got to a point where if you weren't ranked high enough, no one would even glance your way. Rank adds an aura of something very similar to racism to the game... (at least in GW1 it did).
However, this can go a completely different way and make ranking fair and acceptable for everyone. If a person can earn his/her rank in some optional arena type system where players can join random teams, I could live with that. Then, at least, a newer PVPer has a fighting chance to get his/her rank up enough to be "accepted" by the "pros" out there. |

Unfortunately, I do not think World PvP will do that - the reason being that the tactics are entirely different. But there may be something that does - Martin Kerstein's last interview suggested that it's something that has not gone unnoticed by ArenaNet.

That's not even getting into the problem that it's not always better to increase the population in the short-run by attracting shiny-hunters & epeen farmers, because it usually ends up pushing out the people who actually play pvp formats for enjoyment in the long-run. You wouldn't have bloodspike retards, shoveway TA, or widespread 4v4 & dragon arena syncing ruining the fun of any of those formats without titles. Fair enough that game design & balancing can ward off degenerate stuff, but you really are encouraging it by providing incentives to gain 'points' with any corner-cutting, risk-averse, braindead playstyle possible. |
