Default So an fax AV...

So a fake AV attempt to take out my CPU... but AVG caught it and killed it... however... it did disable running any of my programs... I paid AVG $50 to try to fix it for me, but I have been on hold for the past HOUR... anyone got an idea of how to fix?

Good thing you fixed it, or you'd have to spend some time explaining what your talking about. My guess would be that AV = virus and CPU simply means "computer", but that's just a guess.

Best thing to do after a major virus attack is to scan and back up your important files and documents, burn them on a CD or put them on an external drive (make sure you've scanned them all thoroughly!). And then format your harddrive(s) and reinstall Windows.

I always keep an image of a clean windows install plus a fully installed system on a secondary partition on my drive, so I can quickly restore my system after something bad happens, or even when my computer becomes slower after a while.
I use Partition Quest Drive Image 2002, which runs in DOS. Works like a charm.
