This thread is for discussing small time topics of Guild Wars 2 and the Guild Wars Books. If a single topic gains 10+ posts only to that topic, I shall put it into a "Discussion of <topic>" thread of its own.

Happy discussion!

I wonder what will result of the other seed-pods in the cavern Ronan took the Sylvari-seed from.

This story began with a human soldier named Ronan whom, while separated from his patrol, discovered a cavern filled with strange seed-pods. This cavern was protected by terrible plant creatures, so he fled, clinging to a single seed to show his daughter when he returned home from war. But, upon his arrival, Ronan discovered the Mursaat had destroyed his village and murdered his family, leaving only ruined houses and mass graves. In agony, he planted the seed on their graves and swore never to return to battle.

I've wondered about this too. This excerpt says that the cavern was filled with seeds, so will there be sylvari-like races popping up in the future?

Whether the tree, tended by Ventari, somehow became imprinted with the noble Centaur's morals and ethics, or whether it absorbed both the remains of the Centaur's flesh as well as his compassionate soul upon his death, no one knows for certain. But it is certain that his influence over the Sylvari is strong, even so many decades after his death.
Or was it some special combination of that particular seed and where it was planted, and the care given to it by Ventari before he died? Personally I think it has something to do with this. Maybe the tree did absorb Ventari's soul and that was the essential catalyst of the Sylvari's creation.

But who knows? Guild Wars 2 happens a long time after Ronan first discovered the seeds, so they could all be gone now. Or maybe some of them found their way to Elona or Cantha before they were cut off from Tyria and the Sylvari have sister races there. I doubt it, though.

This is a sort of loose end that should be eventually tied up. It'll be interesting to find out.

I think this fits here, interesting facts about Zhaitan.

The nearest tourist attractions in the surroundings of Zhaitan include Lushan National Park (China) about 357 km, Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui (China) about 212 km, Mount Huangshan (China), about 221 km, Hangzhou bridge (China) about 277 km, Shanghai (China) about 369 km, Suzhou gardens (China), about 337 km, F1 Shanghai Circuit (China) about 362 km, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (Taiwan) about 435 km, Taipei (Taiwan), about 433 km, Taiwan National Palace Museum (Taiwan) about 430 km, Fort Santo Domingo (Taiwan) about 417 km, Mount Wuyi (China), about 175 km, . More information about the town’s surroundings can be found at the link on the left Attractions in the Surroundings. The nearest international airport (SHA) Shanghai Hongqiao Intl Airport is situated about 355 km from the town of Zhaitan."

This has to do with who the Sylvari are most likely-- their attitude, laws, etc. So if a seed fell into the wrong hands, I wonder what would become of the beings (if any) that would eventually come from it.

Zhaitan is also similar to Shaitan or Shaytan which is Islamic for Satan.

Anet seems to like Abrahamic references. Abaddon, Apocrypha, and Zhaitan at least.

Also the city Abraham was born in was named Ur. Heard it on Jeapordy last night and it doesn't seem like a far jump from Ur to Orr. In fact, I thought the person said "Or" and I went fact checking to be sure that was right. ^^"

Hahahaha, I also saw that on jeopardy*. Never thought about the connection though, good point you brought up. Perhaps we should go fact hunting on religious texts to speculate and predict where GW2 lore is going.

I only thought of the connection because Konig keeps telling me how GW writers have a thing for Abrahamic folklore. Everyone grab your Torahs, we are going literary hunting!

Torahs, Qurans, Bible, and Apocrypha hunting. Go go go.

Just to note: The Norn and 90% of the things around them in EN (dunno if this will continue in GW2) are based off of Norse Mythology (The Norn are the Norse version of the three sister goddesses of Fate, Jotun are "Frost Giants", Fenrir is the wolf-son of Loki and who eats Odin at Ragnarok, Jormundu [the random-popup warrior wurm boss in EN] is the snake-son of Loki who kills Thor at Ragnarok, and Drakkar is norse for Dragon).

Sylvari seems to be based off of Latin, but is similar to Dryads - which is from Greek Mythology.

Charr seems to have Mongul influences.

It is possible the Norn will continue with a Norse theme, Sylvari will go with a Greek/Latin theme, and Charr will continue with a Mongul theme.

With all this, and there is more known, we can easily find various past and possible future influences on GW Lore, and as Lord said, we may be able to predict future GW lore.

The name Ascalon also resembles that of the Biblical city Ashkelon.

I guess this would be a nice place to post this, since I know you guys here at the Lore Forum actually listen.

I wasn't going to make a new topic, either, since there are so many in different forums.. I just wanted your quick thoughts.

I've been throwing this picture around a lot on this forum lately because a lot of people are insisting that Asura won't be able to be Warriors, Norn can't be casters, and other things like that, because it "doesn't work with the lore" (We only seeing Norn warriors, for example.) I've been bringing this up and the fact that Vekk and Jora are allowed to chose any profession as a second profession without being handicapped by it (Jora using a prot monk build, Vekk using a warrior build) as arguements supporting that Anet will allow all races to be all of the core professions they put in GW2.

Someone else was saying Sylvari couldn't be Warriors or Necromancers because it wouldn't "fit," but I think they would want to try it for the experience, thus locking the knowledge in their hive-mind and allowing the other Sylvari to be such professions.

I just wanted to see your opinions on it, since I seem to respect the opinions and arguements of those on the Lore Forum more than Tyrian Assembly.

Ugh, I hate that line of "Asura cannot attack, Norn cannot cast" It's just plain wrong. And a reason why I avoid many situations.

Here's more evidence to support against this:

I'll chop your legs off!
Not the knee!
The crippler!
Not your average Hudd.
Another one!
It's a house elf with a knife!
Aim for the shins!
One arrow, one leg
Caster or Fighter? Why not both!
A duo-ing dueler.

Minions! Minions!
No Spirit Spamming Please
One spirit, two spirit, three spirit, four!
A crafty healer... and hypnotist!
Dualing Wammo!
Gotta be a caster of some sort in order to call upon magic, right?

Any race can be any profession.

I think all races have a chance to be different things, and for the record, we have seen Norn casters. Remember Mr. NecroNorn boss? Yes, Im too lazy to look up his name but he was on the edge of the world, with a bunch of minions.
