I want a game which;
* lets me play coop with my significant other and friends without artificial barriers keeping characters apart.
* makes any grind an optional add on to gameplay, not a barrier to doing what you want with the game.
* has an over arching story which helps guide you through the different areas of the game and gives you a greater goal than the level up.
* has combat which requires some thought to execute and rewards tactics, innovation or team play.
* allows me to play alone if I so choose and I'm not blocked from end game content because I don't belong to a guild with 100 people in it.

I'm certain there is more. I don't especially care what ArenaNet has done with the mechanics; classes, races, inventory, levels, crafting, whatever. What I want is an MMO with a philosophy which matches that of Guild Wars because that is what really made it the only MMO which has ever really worked for me.

Too much to ask? - I guess we'll see.

The same standard of competitive organized PvP that we saw in GW: Prophecies.

PVP content such that was in Prophecies.
15k/Elite armor sets.
Rare skins/not stats.

~ Skins Not Stats (includes Armors and Weapons)
~ No Grind
~ Good Story with heavy GW lore
~ E-Sport feel for PvP
~ Great visuals
~ Wolf Form (that actually turns you into a Wolf and is good)

EDIT:
~ Play Solo (and not get affected or fight over farming and killing things against other people)
~ Play with Friends
~ I can remove the PUG/Dual Factor

Everything this guy has said. As long as these desires are kept, I could deal with probably any changes.

I was going to flippantly reply "I only want to beat things up" but then I realised there is something I am looking for above anything else in the game.

That's a reason to play for as long as I want after I've finished the campaign. And not stupid ones, like "oh, I could do HM" or "I could border-scrape the entire map" or "I could open 50,000 chests". Something that is actually different each time, brings new challenges ... and crucially, that doesn't absolutely require me to have top-notch guildies around when I can be online like GvG or HA might.

The stuff I'm hearing about world PvP is very encouraging. "Events" are also encouraging, as long as they're substantially different each time and not just like playing Dzagonur Bastion ad infinitum.

Guild Wars 1 with a persistant world, more emphatized solo leveling (no heroes + henchmen shit), less elitism plz, more rewarding PvP (not just grindy titles), more stuff to do outside of elite PvE/PvP for example: more casual PvP like JQ/AW and more PvE dungeons but definitely not in the way that they are in WoW/RoM, there are smarter ways to make challenging dungeons!

And maybe little things like crafting and mini games (polymock etc.).

What I want from GW2:
  • New Lore (we'll get this) that is nicely thought out (i.e., a continuation, or better, of GW's previous lore - along with an expansion on unknown things, instead of just adding more things to the lore).
  • A great story.
  • A continued balance.
  • No archetypal classes or races except for those already in existence in the game.
  • More of the map being explorable than Prophecies and Eye of the North combined.
  • A player community similar to Prophecies.
  • No mandatory grind, only optional grind.
  • Keep the idea of skill>time
  • The ability to do the more than one storyline with just one character (at the least, one character per race - I don't want to be making 20 characters just to experience every storyline).
  • Better looks not equaling better stats.
  • Easy ability to max ones' stats by simply playing the game.
  • Less elitism.
Many things, yes, but small and easy to do things (well, balance isn't easy, as it is a constant thing, but it needs to be done).

The main things I want are:
- to be able to do it solable, with each profession, even the end stuff
- Not have to fight over or wait a really long time for monsters/minibosses in the persistant zones (my biggest want, especially for minibosses, not have to wait hours for them to respawn)
-PvP limited to ONLY the world/mist (whatever its called), no pvp in the persistant/instanced worlds
-and Cool looking armor/weapons, don't let the npc have all the cool stuff (like the ebon vanguard armor)

Edit: And these that Konig Des Todes brought up.

Things I NEED:

- Vast customization, possibly as extensive as Aion, but not THAT extensive, if you catch my drift.

- Color dye that actually changes your gear to THAT color. No whites being grays and blacks being silvers.

- Polearms, such as pikes, spears, halberds, double blades, etc.

- A rogue/thief-like class, not the ninja-like assassin.

- Better dual wielding. Not just with dirks. With long swords and what not.

- Weapon viability for all classes. Moreso on classes that are profound in those weapons.

-To play with friends easily and without grind
-To play a variety of professions and races on the one account
-Cool skins and animations
-A continuation of GW1 lore tied in with the new events
-An easy way to find an item or group without spending hours team/trade spamming
-A balanced game
-Basic freedom of movement (like walking up a hill or jumping)
-A bigger and better Tyria
-A strong community
-Lots of optional grind which gets you nowhere for all the elitists
-Easy to get into PvP and missions without 3-year countdown timers
-Norn totem blessings THAT ACTUALLY TURN YOU INTO AN ANIMAL
-A game thats both fun to play casually but immersive enough to spend hundreds of hours on

I'll name a few things that have been announced to be in it, but it's what I want GW2 to have so I decided to put it in the list as well.
  • Good graphics (I like Eye Candy)
  • Keep the 'if 1 character is in Guild A, the other character will be in guild A as well' system.
  • Same as above for the friends list
  • Character customization similar to Aion's system
  • Jumping/Swimming
  • Persistant world
  • Better animation
  • Weekly mini events that GW1 has, and I hope to see more 'special' festivals like wintersday and stuff in GW2 as well
  • Optional grind (People gonna flame me for this, but yea, I want it....; Things that can keep me busy like the GW1 titles)
  • Enough content at release (I'm looking at you Aion ¬¬)
  • Dungeons that are worth doing. GW1 dungeons were fun the first time but many of them were pretty useless to do apart from the few that drop stuff that is worth something.
  • Different armor system ( I know they already announced light, heavy etc armor) 1 thing I didn't like about GW1, even though I did it myself, was being able to buy max armor at the start, and all max armors having the same stats.
  • Better armor design. I always thought NPCs had better armor than characters in GW1...
  • Good PvP
  • Guild Halls, but this time more customizable
  • Cape system similar to Aion's cape system (being able to upload your own logo etc, instead of the random symbols GW1 had as emblem option)
  • Raids
  • Norns that actually transform into an animal when they use the transform skills
  • A summoning class (not like rit spirits or necro minions, but more a warlock/spiritmaster kind of class)
  • Oh and for god's sake an AUCTION HOUSE.
Might be a bit early to talk about expansions but I hope expansions will hold more content and take more then a day or 2 to finish. I don't need new expansions added to the game if all they do is add more skills to the game (as much as I love some of those skills) that make it harder to balance.

*More enjoyable combat... animations (with more variety and less sparkles), creatures that are less in number but harder and more fun to slay I want to be forced to use new tactics of my choice to deal with each one.

*To explore vast changing lands and be amazed... something interesting in every direction and events going on.

*More freedom of customization I seriously dont want to create another standard 'pretty-cute' character...

*Amusing NPC Dialog options.
