Confirmation of changes in the world during night- and daytime. Sweet.

Okay, a lot seem to be focusing on the day/night cycle and I didn't see this as new info or that it would be a full 24 hr cycle, and it occurs to me why now, I played the Aion beta and they had the same thing. Much shorter then 6 hours by the way zgomot. As I recall them saying for Aion they wanted the players to be able to experience the day and night in game regardless of timezone or if you were only able to log in at a certain time each day.

I know a lot of games have a day/night cycle but since Aion is NCSoft: Two hours real time is 24 hours Aion time. 1 real minute = 12 Aion minutes.

And for reference: LOTRO is on a 3 hour cycle. 90 minutes day/90 minutes night.

WoW is real time with their day/night cycle.

I really hope they make it 5 or 7 hours (note: numbers that 24 is NOT divisible with). That way they'd have day-to-day rotation in the cycle. Alternatively, it'd be nice if they cycle it the way they schedule daily tournaments (8+8+7 cycle, meaning every 3rd 'day' would be 1 hour short).

The story of the world is a continual one, and events that the player characters shaped in the first Guild Wars game are turning points in the history of Guild Wars 2.

Due to the passage of time, most characters that were important in Guild Wars are no longer present. Their names are legendary, and their contributions are still recognized in the game, as are the events of our previous releases. From those starting points, we shaped the new world of Tyria – and many of the organizations, gods, and locations from the first Guild Wars will be present in the second.

RS: We do, indeed, have a day/night cycle! The transition will not be real time, but rather a sped-up in-game cycle based on the game timer. The transition of day to night will have a big effect on the world, as certain events in the game won’t happen until it is an appropriate time of day. Centaurs may attack the garrison at first light, for example, or spooky ghosts appear at a haunted ruin only during nighttime.

...
I wonder if gwen will shows up as a (little) ghost and do some hectic firestorm dance by the end of alpha/beta testing xD .

But that makes too much sense to implement!

hmmmm, im curious as to what type of time cycle there will be. like, how many real time hours in a game day or night? also, will this mean that there will be a progression of in game years and a change of in game seasons as months go by?

Two things are kinda new:

1. Day/night cycles based on in-game clock.
2. Underwater events.

Perhaps it was the crystal desert, or the lands of orr, away from the cities. Like that part that was in the gwo map but was un-explorable.

Think it will be a little longer then 2 hours tho. You can't really have centaurs attack at first dawn and then only give them a couple minutes. Why is it always centaurs btw? Are they playing such a major role in the game, or just the standard example?

they will play a major role in the game, as they played in the Magumma part in Prophecies.

Can't wait to see Sorrow's Furnace in GW2.

Maybe Killroy's ancestor(s) will be there to run amok with.

Glad the D/N cycled got conformation ... and even more, that the cycle will actually influence the game (appart from the ammount of light) ... :cheer:

After having it seen turn up in a couple of threads, and concidderation on my part, i hope they make the cycles long enough, but more important of an uneven number, so that time will shift in relation to IRL time, and thus players that can only play at a certain time can experience both Day and Night every few days/weeks

And ofcourse the underwater part is very exciting, i wonder how they will make the non fuzz about it somewhat 'realistic' (i know its a fantasy world, but to some extend even fantasy has to make sence) ... also wonder about the things that will be doable underwater ... sigh, so excited but, still such a long wait

Would anyone conduct an interview with the questions plaguing a lot of minds? This interview seems to regurtitate a lot of the questions posed before resulting in the same or similar answers.

The crux of the matter we need more info on game mechanics. Hopefully someone will have the scoop and ANET will spill the beans.

No game mechanic answers until next year, ArenaNet has stated this.

You'll have to resort to being a Lore fanatic for now...

Damn all the secrecy. Probably means then we are in store for some radical changes ie it won't be a straight xerox of GW1 mechanics. Oh the drama and excitement.
