How do I enter?
The contest will begin today, Friday, July 20th, as soon as we open the doors to the Beta Weekend Event.
As you play in the event, keep your eye out for that perfect action or landscape screenshot. Take your screenshot (don’t forget to hide the UI with Ctrl+Shift+H), then head to our Facebook page where you’ll find the contest entry form front and center.
We want you to have fun, so don’t worry about racing to find the perfect shot as soon as you can. Take your time and enjoy yourself; you’ll have until Monday, July 23, at 11:59 p.m. PDT to submit your screenshots. If you’d like to enter in both Action and Landscape categories, you may enter twice (with a 24-hour wait between entries).
Voting will begin on our Facebook page on Tuesday, July 24, at 12:01 a.m. PDT and last until Thursday, July 26, at 11:59 p.m. PDT. You can vote twice, so look over all the entries and vote for your favorite in each category. You’ll be able to share your screenshot entry with friends, encouraging them to come vote for you as a winner.
After voting closes, the ArenaNet Community Team will choose six winners from the 20 screenshots in each category that received the most votes. Each of those winners will receive a Guild Wars 2 SteelSeries mouse, headset, and mousepad.
The contest will begin on our Facebook page this Friday at noon PDT–we’ll see you then!

Here is the story of my screenshot:
The world of Tyria is cruel. So I’ve begun my adventures through it by joining the forces of Sylvari – the race, who is relatively green (in both worth-while and figurative senses) in itself. And they are always eager to learn, experience and understand!
But such mind “hybridization” of two beings (human from Earth with tyrian Sylvari) had wide implications. Right after first appearance of our hero in the world of Tyria (since his stay in the Dream of Dreams) he has suffered from Oedipus complex, which only heightened by memoirs of brokilonian dryads from (one of) the “past” (human) life
But Ventari Tablet dictates: “Act with wisdom, but act”! So our hero has secretly sneaked right in the Pale Tree’s (the mother of all Sylvari) chamber. Then he concealed himself in the green (that also gave him good boost to “stealth”
We can deliberate about our hero’s expectations of such actions (or what would happen between him and the Mother when audience is over) for a long time. But history hasn’t subjunctive mood. So (despite everything and like most of tyrian stories by now) our story has the end, which is full of “sad ambiguity”. His adorable Mother has noticed slight sway of branches on her left and some abscised leafs there. Thus she ordered our hero to wait until audience is over and discuss all of his problems later. Then guards dispatched her “dear child” back to lift (between bottom of the Tree and Mother’s chamber in its crown). But our hero didn’t wait for this moment to come because of the shame (he suffered from during that time) – another “human-kind” sense – and the Mother had much work to do that day too.
There's certainly that mother can always understand own children better than anyone else. So, coincidence or not, a bit after the event described above the Pale Tree asked the Valiant to find the missing Sylvari girl who was seeking for an ancient artifact of Orr – the powerful silver mirror. And when this mirror (and the girl of course) was found the Mother of Sylvari has ordered to install it right in front of that hedgerow in her private quarters – “for protective purposes”. It’s still unknown about what kind of things comprise these “purposes” (and from the tale of Snow White we can obtain only one hypothetical example of many)…
Thus I let everyone to imagine possible outcomes of our story and the fate of our hero in it! So far the only plot of this story is follows: “Nothing humane is alien to Sylvari”. And my screenshot (named The-Pale-Tree-audience) placed in 101-st position (1781-st from the very beginning) on page 15-th of the facebook contest gallery is also the ONLY evidence of all events described above!
So, if you like the story, feel free to vote for this screenshot as much as you can/want to!
Best regards, Alexander.

There's over 9000 (intentionally not meme-ing this) screenshots, 348 pages to go through and lots of duplicate or just useless entries. Take a screenshot of the character creation screen and call it landscape, right?
I'm really disappointed, since I thought I could actually have at least a CHANCE of winning because I actually spent my time caring for composition and concept, but now it seems I'm just one of those page-10-to-348-screenshots that won't be even looked at ever again. But it's not only me, there's a DOZEN awesome screenshots with 0 or just 1 vote on these pages, but nobody will see them. Can't blame them, I wouldn't want to go through 350 pages either.
So frustrating, really.

Agreed. I too find the way they're handling the voting to be rather problematic. Due to the sheer volume of entries, it's pretty much impossible to sift through ALL the screenshots and find THE one you think is the best in each category. And as you say, there's some pretty useless entries that are bogging things up (I even came across a "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" image among the entries!). So it's really turning into a "who has more Facebook friends that can vote for me" contest rather than one that is based on the quality of the screenshot.
Personally, I feel the better way to handle this contest would have been for ArenaNet to do the initial sifting and present the top 5-10 entries in each category for the general population to vote on. This would have helped made the contest more about screenie quality (rather than popularity of the individual) and make voting far less unwieldy for the voters.

Oh, and I found some beautiful floating islands while exploring GW2's scenic vistas, so if you'd also check out and possibly vote for my Landscape submission, I'd be in your debt! Thanks again!

I found a secret garden with a lot of strawberries, it's a very beautiful place, with lot of light, waterfall and old wheel, a place where technology and the wild live together !
This place is in the bottom left corner of the Diessa Plateau .
What do you think of it ? If you like it, please vote for it here

They have like a thousand tiny thumbnails on 300+ pages and you are supposed to pick your favourite from that? It's just impossible to be objective in that scenario. People will always just either pic one from the 1st 10 pages or pick one randomly, which is hardly fair.
I didn't touch it.
