We had a great day at gamescom today! We met lots of fans and had fantastic conversations with you all. We really appreciate your love and support and for coming out to speak with us.
One piece of feedback we took on board from our experience and from talking with you is about the item code distribution at our booth. After considering all your feedback, we’ve decided that we needed more community-focused approach to handing out those item codes.
Rather than handing them out at Guild Wars 2 gamescom booth over the next three days, we’ve decided that we will give fansites across Europe these codes to give away. We apologize for the inconvenience this change may cause.

the special item wasn't that sowrd from the picture. That sword can be gotten ingame. I bleieve it was an ingmae gw2 tshirt. not sure though

We feel kinda betrayed by the situation, now we probably will not have the ingame item, and multiple people online will have more than one, etc.
I'm just disappointed and sad.

Well i am really disappointed. Me and my girl we both 2 airplane tickets (not lowcost) + hotel + food expenses, to go for our very first time to GamesCom and also get the special item.

I didn't say the trip was a waste, it will for sure be great, but the item also made me put the extra effort and euros to make sure i get there, which i hope to arrive there tonight, so i'll be there all weekend but still i feel betrayed, nothing worse than broken promises.

Promise?
As far as I know then never stated anywhere that you would ONLY be able to get the item from GamesCon. Nor that they have infinite numbers of codes.

They said special item. Not unique item.
Nowhere in that announcement did they say that you could only ever get the item by attending GamesCon
