Martin Kerstein has posted an update on when to expect the Lost Shores event to start on November 16th:

Quote

Something is stirring in the Sea of Sorrows – and we want to make sure that you are not missing out, so here is a schedule (without spoilers) for you, so you can plan ahead:
  • On Friday November 16th at noon PST (20:00 GMT) the weekend will kick off with an Event in Lion’s Arch that you don’t want to miss. This will trigger events in other parts of Tyria as well.
  • On Saturday November 17th at noon PST (20:00 GMT), another phase will kick in.
  • Each phase is triggered by a special event, but you will be able to enjoy additional content afterwards even if you cannot make the kick-off time. There is one exception:
The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there! There will be plenty of content available to enjoy that will remain permanently in the world as a result of the outcome of this event on Sunday.

We will give you more details once we get closer to the event, but wanted to give you an early heads up so you can plan accordingly. [Source]

I think they mean the Friday event.  It sounds like the Sunday event is the big one, but the whole thing is kicked off on Friday.

Really, a one time event?

Personally i kinda hate those things...

but being more objective...

Mad King crashes and issues everywhere are already forgotten?

(aka: one time -> TONS of ppl -> and we've seen that is still a problematic thing for them, seems.)

THey meant because it starts on Friday.. Which is a workday.
It's fair anyway though no matter what timezone you come from, you end up with Sat and Sun and either Fri or Mon.
(as in the event runs Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon)

Really excited. My exams will be done by then so I can hopefully participate in all of this. Although waking up at 9am on my holidays was not part of my plan D:

People put too much thought into the idea of "one time event". I would relax about it, it's really not a big deal. We heard the same phrase about the Mad King's Dungeon. That turned out to be a very short cinematic cut scene - while it was nice to be there at the time, it could easily be viewed in high resolution later on Youtube.

When it comes to things like this, Arenanet is always going to be "in the wrong". They're never going to be able to cover all time zones perfectly, they're never going to be able to gear the event towards every individual, etc. So they're going to do what makes the most sense as far as overall appeal. That being to put it smack dab in the middle of the day, which is the logical choice.

Great again the Oceanics get screwed. 12:00:00 Noon Sunday November 18, 2012 in US/Pacific converts to
07:00:00 a.m. Monday November 19, 2012 in Australia/Sydney

why the hell can't they do the one time events at 12 noon on the Saturday? Especially one that will last multiple hours as an event chain unlike the Mad king that was just a short cut scene that you could log in watch then make your way to work.

Grr... Cinematics  I wouldn't have minded but full event chains that are one-time?  Oh well, there better be some good youtube videos for those of us who Don't have the game yet...

Simple solution to missing the one time event at noon on sunday.

Watch it on youtube. Simple problem resolved by a simple solution.

That would work for a simple cut scene but having a Event Chain? That is content (drops, karma, silver etc) that a large amount of the Oceanic player base will be missing out on with out having the chance to play it.

All I ask is that the schedule these events a little bit better rather than having it at the end of a weekend.

Yeah, unfortunately not simple.
With the Mad King, the one time event was of course just a cinematic.
But Anet has implied that the One time events for this are much more event based. Although the changes are permanent, so it's not like you completely miss out on content, but still would be nice to be a part of it.

The event is only a trigger event for a new map that will stay around after the event. You're really not missing much. Sure, there may be some things that you can't access later. But, as far as I know this is only a trigger event and the purpose of the event is to show this new island 'coming into existence', after the event the new island, dungeon, content, etc will all be around for how long? Forever.

I don't think there's a need for people to get so worked up about it.

Regardless of the scheduling issues (I'll be at work Friday) I prefer this method of delivery to a standard "update - new map - go do the quests on the new map" with no association or reason for existence like other MMOs tend to do.

I agree, no one with a life is going to be able to participate in every single aspect of every single event that is launched. Those people will always feel "hurt" or as though they were done a disservice, but that's just how things are. It's not perfect, but I prefer to have a trigger event as well rather than a brand new island be added to the game without cause or reason, or get some note in the mail explaining the reasoning for its existence. Those options both feel very bland.

Although yes, this isn't a perfect system and some people will miss out on certain aspects of the trigger event. It gives justification to the major changes in the world around us. Those changes will be permanent and those who missed aspects of the event will still be granted the ability to participate in the newly added, permanent content.

I don't mind to miss things like that. It happens and it's to be expected. But I'll start to worry if these one time events give unique rewards. I always hated to be punished (by not being rewarded) by the game because I had more important things to do in real life.
