
This Friday, February 1st, ArenaNet will be implementing a reset for World Vs World server ratings. The reasoning behind this is the large player population shifts that resulted from the news of the server lock-down. Habib Loew explains exactly how the reset will work.

- We’ll let the current matchup play out. Since free transfers were available during the first part of this matchup we don’t want it to count towards the new ratings.
- When the matchup rolls over on Friday, February 1st we’ll post the final ratings & rankings. The new ordering will determine the groupings for the next matchup as usual.
- After the new matchup has started on February 1st we’ll reset all the ratings (and deviation & volatility) behind the scenes.
What do you all think of this? Is it necessary to let server ratings readjust after the large population shift?

I know for a fact my server is since the vast majority of the WvW guilds decided to up & leave in the last month.

I reread it a few times and I *do* think that this week's match-ups will carry over to next Friday for the rating reset.

I was trying to figure out a reason why they'd do this and then I read this. That makes sense. I just hope dragonbrand can keep their T3 spot. The match ups the last few weeks have been pretty decent.

Again I am glad they finally realized free transfers are bad for WvW and things will work out I am just mildly concerned how long it will take to sort it back out again. They should probably go to shorter matches for a while like we had at launch to feed the algorithm data to minimize the adjustment period. I am sure the good people on Ferguson 's Crossing for example don't want to have a week long match with JQ just because we get stomped in the first week after reset.

Week 2 - Highest point differential will end up in T1 first over all. ANY server from ANY tier can end up here if they have the highest point differential. Weird matchups and complete imbalanced tiers
Week 3 - Closer to normal, due to high population tiers blowing out their competition in the lower brackets.
Week 4 - Pretty much sorted. Business as usual.
Week 5 and beyond will settle back into ratings torpor, with the same match ups lasting months.
That's one month or utter turmoil to end up right where we are today. While I personally look forward to this, it is pointless because the problem they are addressing would largely solve itself in a month anyways.
I like the idea just because it's going to be wild, but to me this is a WvW PR stunt to drive more players into WvW and keep folks tuned in until the February update. WvW populations were declining as of January 1. So...
FREE TRANSFERS ENDING!!! People transfer like mad and enter WvW again causing queues and raised profile of WvW in general.
RESET!!! Again, raise the profile of WvW and get folks playing.
UPDATE!!! Drive players to WvW for new shiny!
Again, I'm almost exclusively WvW, so to me, this is great, but let's call it what it is. A gimmick.

It's total BS to be blaming all those guilds for doing what guilds do naturally (Minmax & Game systems).
Until they make the Scoring actually matter to the rest of the Server more (which yeah, they said they might do), but ALSO base it off of Tactical "Spreading Out" accross more Borderlands (instead of mindlessly zerging 1 tower/keep at a time, on the weekends only)...the "Ratings" will never tell the real story of WVWVW. They also need to greatly reduce the impact that NightCapping & PVD'ing has on the cumulative server scores.

Why should my time spent at 4am EST be worth less than yours spent at 8pm EST? 24 hour battle is 24 hours...
Back on topic.... The ratings reset will be a wild ride and fun, but I agree that this will likely accomplish the same thing that the system would do anyway.

I don't want those doors to get stronger or your personal rewards to decrease any, but the simplest solution to their current problem is to just scale back the rate at which world points are handed out off of primetime. Night capping won't (and shouldn't) go away, but it's not fair that what a minority does during this time has vastly more influence per person on server rating than what the majority does during the day.

Still doesn't justify his question. Reducing points for capping even if it's done off primetime is unfair to those who actually want to play during that time and create an impact on the score. Your time in WvW is not > others time in WvW.
We need another solution to nightcapping, point reduction doesn't fly.
Note: Just to avoid any flamethrowers, I play during NA primetime myself.

Because your reading comprehension of American concepts or conjunctive English in general is just plain bad?
In other Words: Your time is NOT 1:1 so don't pretend like it is, and don't ignore the PVD part. If you're nightcapping, you're PVD'ing. READ: if you're Zerging against a lot less Defenders or no defense at all (generally only during late nights & mornings is this threshold common).... then your Server's Point rewards for capturing and holding that Structure should be greatly diminished. I'm not saying your Karma points or anything else should be reduced, no don't confuse the two. But Rankings & Ladder points are for WINNERS who actually fought a real Challenge. Planetside2 has this same exact problem b/c both games give full point values for uncontested Captures.
^--- and yes this is something that that master-tier Coders like Habib can EASILY take quick radial population samplings of during the entire period of contest (or even toss in arrays for incremental captures of structures that took multiple attempts to make the reward even GREATER than its base value)
