And finally! Game of Thrones (novel written by George R. R. Martin) is coming on TV. This year, HBO will be showing the series. Here's a sort of a preview on it:

psbBi7dLnT4

I can't even express how excited I am, since I've read each book at least 4 or 5 times, and with such a brilliant cast of actors, we're getting our deserved adult fantasy on the TV.

The GoT playlist on youtube.

On IGN.

Main page on HBO.

Well, if you think, it's not that much for the book fans.

I mean, come on, the last one postponed so much and now Martin has even less reason to work on the books. I'm beginning to be afraid that he would die or become sick before he finishes the saga, he's getting older with each year...

But at least the fifth installment of A Song of Ice and Fire, A Dance with Dragons, will come soon enough. I'd like something of real high quality, rather than to feel that the book is a bit rushed out. I'll quote these wise words: "When it's done!".

Although, I know where you're aiming to... if he releases the next two books in such a span, we might get to the end of the series in 2020 (and I really hope we wont).

Looks interesting, but I'm not sure how well it will do on HBO.
Most HBO viewers are the modern soap opera crowd...doubt they'll be into medieval fantasy. Probably should have gone the Walking Dead path and gotten on cable instead of HBO, cuz shows with ideas like this fail on HBO.

Looking forward to it though since my TV just happens to get HBO.

April 17th eh.  That gives me plenty of reading time then. ;)  I'm only a third of the way through the first book.  My stack of unread books is getting larger but I'll try to focus on Game and the rest of the series.

I've been an HBO subscriber for years, and all I can say is that virtually everything HBO produces is gold.  They clean up the Emmies every year with all sorts of original programming, and purely due to the fact that this is another HBO production, I'm sure this will be awesomesauce.

Why is no one asking the important question?
Like:
When is George R. R. Martin going to finish the next book? He's been "writing" it for seven years!

I actually stopped reading the series, because I have this sinking suspicion that he's going to die before he finishes writing. Or maybe I will... he's just taking way too long to write, and each book seems to be getting longer and longer and splitting into more. Neither he nor I are all that young anymore.

I really hope he finishes the story...but I've decided to wait until it's done before I read any more. I think I would go insane if things never get resolved.

I switched up my cable and got HBO for a year...I'm excited to see how the show turns out. Also, if you haven't read the books...it very much is a soap opera in a fantasy setting. It potentially could be very big for HBO. The magical and other-worldly elements are fairly subtle...most of it is the interactions, relationships, and intrigue between the many characters and their families and kingdoms. The books are thousands of pages long, and probably at least half of the pages are descriptions of the colors / banners of each house and what they eat for dinner. :D

A Feast of Crows; earliest release - October 2005

But, heh, I'm waiting for 6 years as well... A Dance with Dragons will come soon.

He was probably holding off the release of the book for the TV series for extra publicity.

I'm sure that had much to do with him FINALLY releasing it.  But it's been, what, 9 years in the making?

I had hoped he would release it before the series premiere.

Also.  On April 3rd, there's going to be a 15 minute preview of GoT on HBO

For details.

Ha!  I didn't remember seeing the WiC site linked on here before so I dug up the thread to add it.  They've got something for news on there pretty much every day so it's good one to check.

Today's news is about the redesigned covers for the series.  I'm kinda undecided on those.  I don't really want a whole new set, but I have trade paperback in just three and mass pb in the third (I favor trade over mass or hardcover).  I was planning on getting the third in trade new or used to match, but soon via internet it may be a potshot on which shows up in the mail.  I do like the new cover art though, and I suppose it's possible or likely that the fifth coming out will only have the new art.

Corvus Corax is supposed to be performing in the pilot episode. Really excited about that, so I'll watch it for that reason. Don't know much about the series itself, though.

Lol. Is such a win even possible?
