[Dawn Quickblade]

The kid playing Jojen does the voice of Ferb in the cartoon Phineas and Ferb. This will be interesting.

Thanks for the song link.  It sounded awesome in just the little in the trailer.

The trailer is such a teaser, as they say.  I'm excited!  I've already watched through my s2 blu-ray episodes with the commentary so now I'm back to waiting.  (Luckily I have a week long vacation before 3/31 to help.)

Really glad they appear to be growing the dragons properly.  I was somewhat afraid they would be about dog size this season.  The 3rd book is my favorite of the series so far, as it is for many readers.  There are just so many fantastic things that happen in almost all of the storylines that I can't help but expect this season of GoT to be the best yet.  Mindblowingly fantastic kind of stuff.

Hopefully we'll see a bit more of the dragons this season since they don't have to burn their whole CGI budget on one episode this year.

I've been waiting for winter to come since 1996 when the first book was published...  still hasn't happened yet.  I don't think GRRM will live to finish the story nor do I think he's conceptualized the conclusion at all considering he keeps messing things up further for the characters with every novel.  I also think GRRM is a bitter curmudgeon who is angry its taken so long for him to become "famous" he comes across kinda douchey in interviews.

Seriously? Wow how different perceptions are - because from the interviews I've seen of him, he seems quite humble with a pinch of self-irony regarding his "late" rise to fame, but "douchey" is the first time I heard in reference to the man.

I imagine anyone that started reading the series when the first book was published has a bit of bitterness from having had to wait so long.  Five books in fifteen years when you enjoy them is a tough pace to handle.  Personally I didn't start reading the first book until around Christmas of 2010 because of the recommendation on these forums.  I didn't even know about the HBO series until I'd started, but still finished the then published four books before it premiered.  So since then I've had one book and the show to fill time but I still wish he'd focus on writing.  He has too many things in the fire it seems.

I can't be the only person who thinks the 4th book was pretty much... meh.  I seriously think GRRM has no direction in his stories.  He's making fantasy soaps made for future TV.  I think he probably regrets introducing the white walkers & when he actually does introduce him he doesn't want to be cliched like every other elf out there except it probably will be cliched like the forest children.

It was the least interesting of the books for me too. I think he'll pick up the tempo in Winds of Winter though. If I were to venture a guess regarding the end of the book, I'd say we'll see the White Walkers scattering the Nights Watch and beginning their invasion of the Seven Kingdoms.

I'm not really into reading, but I made it through the first 3 books. I gave up after that though. AFFC was really boring to me. I tried getting through it by skipping all the Brienne chapters, but even then I still couldn't get myself to read more than 2 pages before getting bored.

Yeah, large portions of both four and five weren't very easy to make it through for me.  Some parts I liked a lot.  The main problem I had is that I have favorite storylines in the series that I want to see move forward and when he had two whole novels covering the same timeline and many characters not enough happened for those favorites.  I really could care less about the Dorne parts/characters so those chapters are a chore.  I'm fairly confident David & Dan will be able to smooth out the story and chronology of books 4 & 5 for the show nicely though.

It's funny - I really like the Dornish, but their chapters bore me! Go figure o.O Also, I'm really itching to see

But seriously, she is actually a good actress which is something one wouldn't expect if you were only told about that backgound.      It's been interesting seeing how the character is being portrayed differently from the books.

The intro with Sam was pretty terrible. What happened to all the wights/white walkers? Rest of the episode was awesome. On one hand I would've loved to see all of the characters (Arya, Bran etc.) in the first episode, but on the other hand I enjoyed the longer than usual scenes such as the one between Tyrion and Tywin.

Also, Daenarys' storyline is going to be awesome this season. I can't think of any scenes that would require a lot of their CGI budget like Blackwater last year, so I'm hoping we are going to see more than 10 seconds of dragons this season. Season 2 had barely any scenes with the dragons in it and Viserion and Rhaegal were only shown in the last episode. In the first episode of this season they were pretty much just black shades flying high up in the air. :/

I am not sure what exactly you're expecting in terms of CGI if the first episode: Drogon fishing a fish out, frying it in the air before he gulped it down and getting pet by Daenerys = black shades flying high up in the air.

That said, can think of at least one scene where they'll dominate the screen and I am sure HBO doled out some benjamins to make it look fantastic.

The White Walker entry was weird as hell though, I'd agree. I am still not sure about Cian Hinds (sp?) playing Mance Rayder, sure loved him in Rome but I imagined him younger (which I really shouldn't have, given the extensive background of Mance and what he had done up to that point in his life, but I can't help it...).

With the black shades I meant Viserion and Rhaegal I wasn't really complaining about the CGI in the first episode, but I just want to see more dragon scenes, especially some Viserion and Rhaegal, in general. In season 2 they constantly hid the dragons in the cages during daenerys scenes. I hope that's not the case in season 3.

Ah! I really enjoyed the books for their subtle (or at least sparce) use of fantasy elements, so that isn't so much a problem for me. But since 80% of the people always want more Direwolves and Dragons, it'd probably be good for the series to consider that

I didn't like the giant by the way, so I rather have them do less, but of higher quality.

I am more bummed out about the fact that Strong Belwas won't be in it! Absolutely loved the criss-cross belly scarred son of a scimitar!

Yeah I was pretty surprised that Strong Belwas was not featured. I have a feeling that they didn't consider him important enough to warrant yet another protagonists paycheck! I have the feeling that he may appear as a cool "extra" without much in terms of dialog and meaningful screen time - think Wedge in Star Wars. Also, IIRC in the books

Ser Barristan disclosed his identity later, being known to us only as Arslan or whatever he called himself - but I guess this would not have worked in the show as we see his face anyway.

The episode was a decent start to the season.  I didn't expect it to start off with every storyline in thunderous mode like some seemed to.  I would have liked one scene or another be cut for an Arya scene.  I didn't get much out of the Robb/Catelyn scene so perhaps that's one.  In my own personal opinion and liking it's as important to get Arya in every week as it is Tyrion.

I was fine with the appearance of the giant, and pleased that we got one so quickly.

I loved the Daenerys scenes and they were a great start on what is my expected favorite full storyline of this season.  Her probable next step (as the book goes) is going to be fantastic!

The intro was clearly the biggest dissapointment of the episode I didn't expect a big battle, but even some short flashes would be a looot better. Even tho I've read the books I needed a while to understand at what point are we actually catching up with Sam and the rest... I guess they'll speak about it later on.
Also Robb's scene was a bit weird: at one point they are talking about Mountain defending Harrenhall and then they are in after some brief battle and no Lannister forces around CoK-SoS spoiler

Although I see that D&D want to finally make Harrenhall the Stark forces' keep and leave Roose Bolton there, as in books. Qyburn is already there to serve him and I guess that they'll cut out the rest of Bloody Murmmers as we haven't heard about them so far... just wondering how will they do Jaime's plot - some random "hunters" as said in the episode?

Yet overall it was a good episode, especially for the season premiere.
