a) Does anyone have any infromation of the mechanics of the day & night cycles? Will it follow the exact 24 hour cycles of real life, or will it be faster/slower?

I played an MMO where it followed the 24 hour cycle and I was kinda bummed because I'd always play at the same time every day, and it was ALWAYS night time on the server. The world was always dark and I rarely got to ever see daylight.

If the day/night cycles could be offset by a few hours, it would ensure that everyone will experience all the different times of the day since most people tend to play at the same time everyday.

B) Will night last as long as day? While night time is sort of cool, I think most people generally prefer playing in the bright sunlight. There is after all a reason why most activities in real life go on in the mornings and the afternooons.

http://www.guildwars...emoi-t6908.html is a similar thread, its quite old however and deals only with speculation, it doesn't give a definitive answer.

I don't really know the answer, I'm not sure anyone does. We've seen daytime gameplay, and night time gameplay, but I don't think I've seen a demo thats ran long enough to see the actual transition between the two. Might be possible to see in some of the new demo footage which is surfacing, such as the 5 hours of footage in the guildwars2live thread. Can't really be of more help than that I'm afraid.

I can however say that in Aion for example, one 24 hour cycle in game = 2 hours in real life.

A. No the game clock, will be separate from the real world clock, it will change day and night multiple times through out the day.

B. It will most likely have its own Game calender, if not at least Game clock. (EQ would let you see the exact, day of the week you were in, month, day of the month, year and time in the game ei: 6:32 AM, Brewday of the month Giberhop 11, 3211.) So if it's anything like that, then 1 that would be awesome and then 2 it would give role players an in death feel that they were in another living world that is actually going through time.

And if it did follow this clock system then that would make night and day last the same time because if I remember correctly every 4 real life seconds = one EQ minute to pass. Also some people like my self are actually more night time people and become energized at certain parts of the day. It all depends on who you are and how you are adapted to the cycle of day.

The Guild Wars 2 Wiki FAQ states that the day lasts 80 minutes and the night 40, but that might still change.

Mod note: Stay on topic, people. If you wish to discuss other games, do so in Gamer's Lair.

The transition isn't real-time, and will follow an in-game clock.

B) Will night last as long as day?

We don't know that for sure.

I believe its 80 minutes day 40 minutes night as neok said above. I would rather it be 60 60 but thats just my opinion. Im also interested to see how the weather system will work and if they will add seasons.
