5 things i dont wanna see:

1) overwhelming dependence on consumables to win fights
2) 007 error/random disconnects from instances and not being to log back into that same instance in the same group
3) afk/leechers in world pvp

Mod edit: We have several threads (please, don't create more) that are variations on the theme of:
- What are your fears for GW2?
- What mistakes do you not want made?
- What don't you want for GW2?

Because of this, I'm closing the oldest threads so that we don't have  the same discussion going on in several threads (though, they're all too  large to merge at this point). Please visit the most current thread on  this theme. Thanks.

Don't Want

1) Mounts. Of any variety. They shrink worlds. Design the world with players on foot in mind and keep it that way.
2) Excessive burst damage in PvP. I don't care how little defense you have or how lucky you got- players shouldn't be able to kill players in under 10 seconds.
3) A cap on the number of dot conditions on a target. Let burning/bleeding/poison stack as high as players can get it.

What I want to see:
1) Lots of variety in the different zones
2) All the cities being used (Ghost towns suck)
3) Content being cleared just for the fun of it
4) Lots of dynamic events with powerful bosses
5) Epic battles with the Vigil order

What I don't want to see:
1) People doing speed clears to attain phat loots and money (defeats the idea of fun)
2) Repetitive boss mechanics
3) Ghost towns (cities being used rocks)
4) Grind!
5) Empty maps or dungeons (All of them should be appealing)

5 things I don't want:

1) A breakdown of the new trinity- Please, please, please, ANet, do not go back to the tank/healer/dps method.  Do not rebalance the game so that there is a dedicated healer.  Do not add professions that can only dps.

2) Insanely high prices for karma rewards- Anyone who has played League of Legends should know what I'm talking about.  Playing games grants you influence points you can use to unlock characters, and buy upgrade runes to tweak them.  All new champions cost between 3150 and 6300 (mostly 6300).  You earn less than 100 points for winning a normal game that runs the average time of 38 minutes (losing nets you even less).  Unlocking things takes for-freaking-ever...  Do not want for GW2.

3) Lack of transmutation stones- I want these things available in infinite quantity (with a price of some sort, or course) without forcing a payment of real currency.  ANet wants us to be able to customize our characters to look the way we want.  Transmutation stones are a major enabler of such customization, so I want them reasonably attainable.

4) Faction reputation grinding- That does not mean factions and reputation cannot be present, just that I don't want to slave away, killing thousands of the same type of mob for a week just so that NPC Vendor #452 won't cuss at me when I peruse his wares.  Then, I have to kill another 5000 just so that he doesn't mutter under his breath every time I buy something.  Then another 10000 before he simply regards me as random customer.  I would prefer something like reputation to be tied to specific actions and accomplishments (beat boss X in dungeon Y, and the faction it was terrorizing will rejoice when they see you).

5) Headgear to obscure my character- GW1 let you hide you helmet so that your "unique" face could be seen by anyone around you (let's face it... there weren't many popular combinations for certain classes so there were many clones out there).  I would hate to spend so much time in the character creator only to never see my face once I get a helmet (rolling a guardian so I will be in full plate).

Now the fun part.  5 things I do want;

1) Lots of dye options- I personally want an option of a bright, intense shade for all colors.  Deep royal purple.  Lush forest green.  Fire engine red.  Midnight blue.  Sunshine yellow.  Lately, too many games seem to think that grey and brown color schemes means a realistic art style.  Those shades are fine, but moderation is the key.  If it's too bleak, it's boring.

2) Sylvari that resemble plants more than elves- I have nothing against elven races.  I just love the concept of a playable plant race.  The plant aspect is the key, and I would love for it to be at the forefront.

3) New weapons at some point in the future- If not new weapons, then at least new weapon options for each available class (thief gets off hand swords, elementalist gets torches, ranger gets maces, guardian gets war horns, etc.).

4) PVP options between 5v5 arena and WvWvW- There's quite a gap between the two modes.  On one hand, you have small numbers in an organized setting.  On the other, you have utter chaos.  I hope I don't get stoned for this, but I would like some medium-scale objective-based modes of PVP, sorta like what WoW did.

5) A good character creator- I will be fine with a system by parts if that's what it comes down to, but I would love to have more control over things.  I may like one face, but I would be curious to see what it looks like with freckles or a scar or something.  Or, the ability to make a Canthan or Elonian human (contact may be lost, but that doesn't mean there was no intermixing beforehand).  Color sliders for eyes and hair would be nice, even if it would allow for people to have bright green hair, or fur.

Don't want:
1. Grinding, ever, theres no excuse for it. Make content more challenging as opposed to repetitive.

2. A boring PvP meta, I don't want to see everyone running the same thing, variety is always better.

3. Mounts, I don't see any point to them when we have waypoints.

4. A super inflated economy due to RMT's and farming. When you are trading using crafting materials because the maximum amount of ingame currency allowed isn't enough, something has gone wrong.

5. A hateful, discriminatory, hostile community who shuns new players and insist everything they do is the only way to do it correctly and that everyone else is wrong. From what I've seen of the GW2G community this doesn't look like it will be an issue, this being one of the friendliest forums I've been on, but theres always going to be some elitist groups who seem to WANT to game to fail, and everyone else to leave, until it is just them left.

Things I want!

1. Challenging and deep, yet accessible PvP, with a low threshold for receiving rewards, but appropriate scaling of those rewards (meaning that instead of there being a high threshold to reach in PvP before receiving ANY rewards, make it so that you still get rewarded at the lower levels skills, just not as much). This will encourage more people to stay with PvP even if they aren't super dedicated to it.

2. Interesting armor variety for all genders over all races. Anet seem to have this pretty much covered, haven't been disappointed with a single armor set I've seen.

3. More distinctive character. Armor and dye help this, but I really want to be able to customize my characters body type/face, once again, seems like this will eventually happen.

4. Beautiful landscapes throughout the entire game. I don't want to be blown away by the Norn starter area only to have as I get further and further into the game for it to get uglier and uglier. Nightfall is a good example of this, going from beautiful Istan and eventually ending up at the Desolation and Realm of Torment. It IS possible to have ruined areas look breathtaking and I want to see some effort made with Orr (assuming we go there) so that it isn't just a pile of black and grey textures on various size rocks.

5. Exploration, I want much less liner zones then we got in GW1, I also want a much smaller density of enemies, in GW1 you could barely go 20 meters without being in some kind of fight, which for me, makes it less about exploring and more about jumping from mob to mob, I want the option of being able to go where I'm going without carving my way through every enemy in the area, and to take my time while I'm doing it. I also would like to see some nice rewards for exploring, something much like Nicholas the traveler but with no grinding, maybe you bump into him and he hands you a bottle and asks for some water from a specific lake, but gives its location to you in a riddle, rather then just "MOAR SKREE WINGS!".

I've only researched mounts, never played an mmo that supported it.

But, if any reason I'd say because it wouldn't be necessary. There are like, a ton of warp points in the game. Why would we need mounts?

Do Not Want:

1) Uncool people. People make the game, so let us all be cool to one another.
2) Gold spammers.
3) Bots
4) One playstyle being catered to to the exclusion of others.
5) 'Silly' vanity items that go against the setting. EQ2 added a pink unicorn recently and every time I see it I want to puke.

Do Want:

The ability to stab 1, 2, and 3 in the eye with a spork if I come across them. ;P

Maarius said:

My problem with mounts boils down to animations. Fighting from a mount takes more art resources to make it look good. Otherwise you either play twister on the mount's back or the mount gets toggled on and off for fights. Either way it looks bad. Otherwise I don't care.

Don't want:

1) Mounts. Seriously.
2) Overly elvish looking Sylvari.
3) A bad economy. With shared nodes and the lack of some common money sinks, I'm worried about that part of the game.
4) Bad voice acting. I understand that with the sheer scale of the game that this will happen sometime, but its a huge turn off for me.
5) An overwhelming number of people playing the thief and being useless.

Mounts encourage the design of huge but generally bland worlds. I'd much rather a slightly smaller game world with a higher content ratio than a stretch of open sameness. Besides, the way-points serve the purpose well enough and the world grows with the expansions.

Don't:
1. Rubberband
2. Make Guild Capes (or whatever apparel used to identify guild members) be so unappealing
3. Have so many god-damn armor clipping issues, even while not performing an emote
4. Force me to buy potions by the thousand
5. Screw up Sylvari

Do not want:
1. Grind. Even if it's optional. And especially not any kind of rewards for grind.
2. Mandatory content. Especially if it's of the non-killing kind.
I don't mind having extra content such as crafting or listening to lore in the game, but I want the option to skip it and not have a gimped character because of this. This also includes the need to do certain quests to to be able to advance. Bring back the C1 model where content could be skipped easily.
3. Battles that take forever to finish. Especially if the foe is just some random snail.
I pretty much want the ability to one-shot kill most random foes I'd run into. That moa does not deserve my attention for longer than a few seconds, so I'd rather have bigger groups instead to prolong battles slightly than having to fight one boring ass guy for 15 seconds.

Do want:
1. True PvP-only guys. Made with a few clicks, ready to participate in any PvP mode (including WvW).
2. FA 2.0.
3. AI-helpers for content where parties are mandatory.

Currently, that's pretty much all that I can think of.
If more pop into my mind, I'll add them later.

Way-points also cost money to use.
So yeah, I'd absolutely adore mounts as a way of travel.

Do Not Want:
1. Consumables (all forms)
2. Gold spammers
3. Dedicated healers
4. Elitism
5. Horrible Economy
Bonus
6. Crappy/campy voice acting
7. Tons of vanity items. I don't mind a few, but keep it to a minimum please.
8. PvP-only types complaining about the PvE

Do Want:
1. Deep and rewarding personal story/great lore
2. Reasonably accurate item hunting events. No going to area, finding sparkly item #157, and returning to person that wants said items. More like, go to area, look for a particular hard-to-find item among the ruins, no sparkly item indicator. Similar to the Chocobo side quest (FF9) map hunt where you have to match a little part of a map to the world and then do a small hot & cold type of thing.
3. T-Stones attainable through barely-grindy game play.
4. Very in-depth character creator
5. Fun PvP

I wouldn't want to see:

1) Garish dye jobs.
2) Silly/rude/bad-taste character names
3) People going on tirelessly about WoW (although I could understand Rift mentions since both do dynamic content, even though it's quite different).
4) Midget norn, or giant asura...though I am sure there will be height limitations per race.
5) People refusing to allow others into dungeon runs because a certain player is using a certain weapon set. ie "Rangers should always use bows you n00b".
In other words, I don't wanna see elitism...it smells.

I'd like to see:

1) Lots of hairstyles/town clothing/armour choices/customization.
2) Absolutely everybody having fun and caring about their GW2 community.
3) Seasonal events....you know similar to events we get in GW at the moment. And lots of variety in dynamic events.
4) Beautiful noble player house interior (I've seen screenshot, but I can't wait to see it with my own eyes.)
5) Amazing scenery, and a giant dragon!

5 things I don't want

- Massive farming in order to be useful (I'm looking at you, Ragnarök Online ¬_¬)

- Bots/Goldsellers/Hackers/Cheaters, everyone hates those...

- Stupid, offensive and "xSasukex"-like names. They should only allow normal names, somehow XD

- Destroy the lore in order to make more money (Blizzard, I'm looking at you ¬_¬)

- Unbalanced professions. If you are going to release more professions but they're highly unbalanced don't worry, we'll survive a little longer without them.

5 things I do want :D

- Extensive character customization, I wouldn't like to find that I'm the 1.387 person that is identical.

- Interesting and deep Personality System and Personal story.

- Rich and interesting lore of each race, good or evil.

- Unmatcheable Guild system, and adding more options than only capes (the thread about scarfs, arm-capes and the like was very very good!)

- Balance, balance, balance!

DO NOT WANT:

Consumables.
Mounts.
WoW fanboys telling everyone WoW is superior.
Gold sellers.
PvP elitists being stuck up their own arse like in GW1.

DO WANT:

A good variety in the amount of professions I encounter in the game world. So, not like 50% of players being thieves and everyone else being a minority.
A good variety of weapons/armor in the game.
The personal story to branch as much as ANet say. So, not like Valve's Left 4 Dead system that's supposed to make each playthrough feel different, but just fails miserably by spawning every single special infected in the same place consistently.
A good community spirit, where people are actually willing to help one another.
Dungeons to be challenging but not so impossible that it requires a certain team setup with certain weapons, different approaches would be ftw.

Things I want:
1) Events that are varried and in depth enough not to become boring after multiple playthroughs.
2) Different and unique tectures that sets areas apart.
3) High level content that supply ample challenge.
4) Some interesting character customization, especially so with armors.
5) A good personal story that's actually well told.

Things I don't want:
1) People with stupid names, such as Sockz Master, or Max Haxor.
2) Annoyingly insulting kids who throw the noob around, or swear profusely.
3) Groups in dungeons who wont work together.
4) People spamming chat, and this counts double as annoying when it's gold farmers.
5) Content that comes out later should never make the older stuff obsolete And this one is very important to me, perhaps more so than all the others together.

Want these, in the following order:
1. A vivid world and a compelling narrative.
2. Lag-free combat, given its worryingly bandwidth-heavy nature.
3. Community that's working together towards common goals.
4. A massive world to explore.
5. Fun quests/minigames that offer a break from all the world saving business.

Don't want to see, in the following order:
1. Pink armour.
2. Elitists comparing the game to WoW, or spouting terms like "wow killurr".
3. Repetitive race-specific enemies, e.g. fighting nothing but centaurs as humans.
4. Easy PvE.
5. GW1's PvE.

Do Not Want
1. Bots / Gold Spammers / Hackers / Modders (Don't want someone being able to create a texture mod that counters stealth).
2. Way-point porting during combat. Would be best if way-point travel was on a short cooldown (e.g. 15 secs) when just existing combat.
3. Lag riddled World PvP.
4. Someone being able to create an unkillable character (stacking all their points into defense).
5. Stupid or offensive character names ("MothaFuka").

Do Want
1. Boss encounters with interesting mechanics. More than just shoot boss "here" until it dies (Shadow Behemoth).
2. World PvP with a large enough map, full of enough objectives to discourage zerging.
3. Some form of authentication from day 1 (just look at Rift).
4. Guildhalls with Guild purchasable crafting workstations, to promote guild crafting.
5. For the game to release this year.
