Hi Guys/Gals.
I have now released version 2 of the Rev Gaming - Build Tool. It includes many performance and feature updates that were either requested in this post or just needed. The new tool link is at: http://gw2.revgaming...ools/BuildTool/

Posted Image

If you are interested in submitting bugs you have found or requesting enhancements or maybe just want to
share you build with the community I have a setup for the site which can be found: here
I will also visit the guru forum once in a while to check for bugs/enhancements that have been submitted here.

I am still in the process of gathering traits / skills icons from game footage so you may see a frown face as a icon
fairly often. This is the default icon for a trait / skill if it does not have a icon recorded in the database.

I need to give thanks to:
- the skill compendium guys / wiki guys for taking the time to gather the skills information. It certainly
helps to have other GW2 fans gathering information so i can cross check my database with their findings.
- The "alpha" testers for taking the time to dig into the application when things were in a early development stage.
- Of course ArenaNet for the great game and artwork to base a build tool on :)

Hope you guys enjoy what I have built so far and let me know about those bugs / enhancements so we can
keep improving it :)

- Avenged Prophet / Craig W.

Looks pretty neat so far.
The inclusion of traits is a huge plus.

Including races would probably be one of the most important things to do. Once that's done and maybe some optimization in terms of speed have taken place...
To make it short: Already really nice and got lots of additional potential.

And well, maybe you'll want to look into encoding the "build strings" in another fashion, maybe hex or such, to cut down on the immense length of the links. But that's a minor point and isn't exactly urgent or such.

Test build:

How do you select healing, utility and elite skills? I can't figure it out.

Edit: Nevermind, figured it out.

This is very nice and appears to be very well done. I too have been working on something similar but may have to stop as clearly there would be too many choices of tools and yours is already coming along nicely. I am not too sure about your choice of background but the utility itself is fantastic.

Very nice, but I'd suggest that you may want to optimise your build encoding in the URL.  The way you're doing it at the moment is pretty bloated.

Use binary values for the data, and use the data's location in the string to provide additional information about the trait - for example, the first three traits have to be from a particular trait line and that line only has a small number of traits in it, so you can store each set of three numbers in very small data values.

Encode the whole thing in hex once you're done and you should have a very compact build encoding, rather than the huge thing you're using at the moment.

Some optimization definitely needs to happen, but this is pretty good for a first release.

Time to go through each profession and make my bars :D

Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments :)

I am looking into the hexadecimal encoding, i will see if i can come up with a shorter URL.

As far as performance goes, is it initial page loading that is bad or general performance in the app once the AJAX has loaded a GW2 profession? I have been seeing bad load times on the site so i may be contacting my provider soon to see if there is an issue with the IIS server.

Looks great, thoroughly enjoying it right now.

On Body Shot (Thief main hand pistol) it says inflicts Bulnerability instead of Vulnerability.

Hmm, for all of the weapons that say "one handed ______" such as one handed sword, you may want to shorten to just "sword", because once you've selected a weapon with such a name, all you see is " One handed", leaving me thinking, "wait, what is that weapon again?"

The initial load time is really slow (>5 seconds), after that it runs really smooth. Didn't experience any lag there.

Regarding the encoding:
Chalky and I did some math and it turns out that hex values of varying character length unfortunately tend to be right below some threshold you'd need to encode a certain number of statistics. One hex character wouldn't suffice for a single weapon set, since warriors have up to 19 unique combinations. Another example would be, I think, three hex characters being slightly too short to encode profession, race, and weapon sets in one batch..

Maybe Base64 encoding could be a good solution to compress basic data (professions, races, weapon sets) into one batch, and have two other batches for traits and skills. Maybe you can even get some inspiration from the way GW1 encodes skill templates. They use Base64 encoding as well and maybe that could be adapted for GW2 builds.

For now taking attributes into the equation doesn't make too much sense, but already having it in the encoded string would cut down on the work later on.

But... I'm just throwing out suggestions here. You're doing the work and it's your time you invest, so... all up to you.

Couple links though:

- Fixed the data entry error. Thanks for catching that :)

- I took you up on the second recommendation too. The weapons no longer have "One Handed" in front of them. Let me know if you guys/gals like this change.

Thanks,

Rev

Best tool I've seen so far in this category.

Minor point, the site says "soul reapong" instead of "soul reaping".

Really nice. Third tool so far and again better then the previous ones.

Pro's

- 2 weapon sets
- traits!

I'm not liking the lay-out so much tho.

Close ranged "Blood/Curse" Necro. Axe/Focus focuses on conditions, damage, and keeping enemies slowed so self/allies can keep on them. Dagger/Dagger is focused on survivability and support. Overall attributes/skills should make for a very resilient and support oriented meleemancer. Fairly brute force. No minions. I used my Necro/Warrior from GW1, Bloodmage from Vanguard, and Blood Deathknight from WoW as inspiration.

Awesome work man, really nice.  The main drawback, of which you have no control, is that we don't know all the traits/ skills yet.  But that will come in time.  Hopefully you keep working on this as it is a phenomenal tool that I will toy with alot in the time leading up to the release of GW2...

Strange. I get a blank template and nothing loads when I select a profession.

And the top row says "Classes". They are "Professions" in GW2. Just nitpicking since I can't get into the tool. :)

Hey guys,

Sorry about that had to take a bit of information off the page due to a request. It should now be back up and running.

I switched "Class" to "Profession".

Let me know if you find anything else :)

Absolutely love it!

Hey, Avenged Prophet, any chance you could add the trait descriptions (Tooltip) on traits you've already selected? It would make it easier to see what traits exist on your character. Other than that, great job!
