First of all thanks for the great guide it's helped clear up a lot of things.

In September I'll be heading to Uni and as much as I'd like to have a desktop I feel having a laptop will help when I visit home, because of this I've been looking for a reliable laptop that I can run GW2 on Mediumish settings with a minimum of 20/30 FPS, my budget has been set to around £750 max so after doing some looking I found the Lenovo IdeaPad Z500T and I was wondering what you guys thought of it?

Thanks in advance :)

It will be ok for what you want, but right now, we're right in the middle of a hardware refresh. Intel just launched their new generation of core i CPUs (Haswell), so my advice would be to wait a little until the new laptops roll out.

Thanks for the advice, when do you reckon the new ones will be rolled out? I'll need one by September

They will definitely be out by then, some new models like the new MSI G series are already available.

Sweet thanks for the advice, I'll keep my eye open for them. I saw an MSI G for £700 but the specs on the Z500T beat it quite a bit

Could anyone tell me how well these 2 laptops will run GW2? And perhaps other games like LoL? Because I'm pretty confused with these laptop gpu's, and integrated gpu's and what not :o

The 7670m won't win any performance contest, but it will do medium. Notebookcheck has a neat database on GW2 by the way: http://www.notebookc...ed.81604.0.html

Forgot to ask, what price range do you think the new models will be?

EDIT: After a second look at the MSI GE60 I'm debating whether this would be better. It has better processor and RAM but not graphics compared to the Z500T, what would you guys suggest? I'm still going to hold off till the new models come out but I'm trying to keep my eye out for other deals

Actually, according to notebookcheck, the GT650m is slightly better than the 740m.

Is it? I know it's higher on the ranking but the 740M does have more FPS

Awesome guide!  I could use some detailed help with my next purchase.  I've narrowed down my choice of a new Guild Wars 2 laptop between two rigs with the most minute of differences.

Essentially, should I go for a 2.4ghz i7 4700mq processor with an nVidia GTX 765m 2GB video card

OR

a 2.7 ghz i7 4800mq processor with an nVidia GTX 770m 3GB video card

Which upgrade would net me the best performance in GW2?  I've been told that because the game is very CPU-dependent I should upgrade to the i7 4800, but I have also seen good technical arguments that such an upgrade would be almost negligible, and that getting the 770m GPU would be a better investment.

I would go for the one with the 770m for the 770m instead of the CPU, it'll come in handy if you want to play other games that aren't as CPU bound, the extra bump in CPU clock wouldn't be enough to justify paying more in my opinion, but that + the 770m is enough to justify it if you can afford it.

Thanks for the input!  Both of the laptops I'm looking at are the same price, so cost would only be a concern if I wanted both the upgraded 2.7 ghz CPU and the 770m GPU... but the upgraded CPU is quite expensive, and it doesn't seem to be enough of a boost to warrant another $185.

What are the models by the way, there might be some other factors aside from those specs like build quality, display, battery life, etc.

The Sager NP7370 and the Sager NP8230

Essentially I'd like more than the 5 fps I'm getting in WvW on my current ancient dual core.  I don't need 50 fps in WvW (even desktops can't do that) but 5 is killing me.

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L875-S7153 and it runs GW2 extremely well.
