Hey. So you know about the whole iterative development process thing that we do here at ArenaNet? :) We have talked about walking in the past and said it wouldn't make it into the game. However, things can change in the world of game development. I just talked to Eric to double check. He confirmed to me that your characters will be able to walk in Guild Wars 2. :)

Serious.

It's because a new highly obnoxious stamina system has been implemented! :D

Holy crap. If they are at the point where they are implementing walking then the game is pretty much done. How much longer until they at least announce a Beta? Diablo III has already announced their Beta for Q3 & they are going to be competing for the same demographic.

There were also shots of characters walking in the new Lions Arch video. Whether they were NPCs or PCs, however, I can't be sure. Not sure if NPCs have walked in video footage before, but...

I rly never cared about walking, I just hope that its implementation won't slow down the development. My concerns became greater when I remembered Martin's explanation why walking is hard to implement, making me think that its introduction will slow down the game development. I rly dont think it would be such a problem if it was included AFTER the game was released but oh, well, atleast the RP guys got the feature they so much wanted.

Martin has been either betrayed or he's a separatist. :p

I just hope this iteration won't push back their unknown internal deadline. The GW community is already a spoiled child while ArenaNet is the overly-lenient parent. I can't believe people could not have waited several months or max a year post-release for the addition of walking.

Different amount of beta time for D3.

It's awesome......if I expressed how pleased I am about this lovely turn of events...well, I'd use lots and lots of very large caps and basically get told off.

So, instead I am going to say this just proves to me how amazing ArenaNet are....wish I could have mentioned walking in my contest video before I submitted lol!

In regards to worries about development time being lengthed...not sure that will happen? They have had an iterative process, in which I am sure they will have been sensible about what they can and can't do, and whether or not they can slot it in?

And if it adds an extra month til release, for me, it'd be worth the wait.

TBH I'm glad this is in, not because I ever plan on using it, but because of how it would look on the patch/update notes:

"And our next exciting feature in GW2 three months into the game is... walking."

I just don't think it would sit well with Anet's stance on holding back the game so that when they launch they can launch with a completed product, if only because walking sounds like a really basic feature.

Just becase it was announced that there will be walking doesn't mean that they haven't been working on it! ;)

Nice. Walking isn't a crucial game element I've been dying to see, but I'm still really glad that it's apparently going to make it in. There's just something a little off-putting about having to run everywhere you go, and the option to take things a little more sedately will be nice. :D

Walking will seem sooo slow after years of GW1. I will probably continue my sprint pace.

Who said they couldn't have waited? No one was throwing pebbles at the windows of ArenaNet HQ, or phoning employees in the middle of the night and breathing heavily before hanging up.

When asked whether walking will be included at any point, ArenaNet almost every single time have stated that it would only be included prior to launch if it did not affect any deadlines.

I'm sure Anet has thought of this, but I HOPE this is easy to toggle on/off.

Nothing is more annoying than accidentally toggling "walk", and not knowing how to turn it off....

still, cool news!

Makes me wonder....when they reveal the mesmer, will the mesmer stylishly and dangerously WALK towards their enemy, in a devious and sexy manner?

The possibilities!

I'm sure toggling between walk and run will be a simple hit of a button.

You are reading my mind! I already envisioned one of their skill videos involving them walking up to their incapacitated enemies to finish them off:p
