With many the many character arts in the Art Request Thread and the many previous Art Challenges hosted by actionjack I have decided that I'd pick up the tradition and host this weeks challenge.
I first posted the challenge in the Art Request Thread, but actionjack himself suggested I'd make a seperate thread for this.

(taken directly from the aforementioned thread.)

The challange is: Group art:
Make an art of five characters.
Rules:
1. You need to put in at least 3 different races together (i.e. a charr a norn and three humans)
2. You need to put in at least 2 different classes together (i.e. the charr is a ranger, the norn is a necromancer and the humans are elementalists)
3. Diversity is everything, though you may use art requests as examples, if you do, please refer to them.

Reward possbile entry closes the first of july at 23:59 PM GMT+1 and winner will be rewarded a week later.
The jury will be Overlord and Elan and myself
The reward is: Couple of Z Keys

For inspiration take the Destiny's Edge book cover.

Entries can still be made after the first of july, but will not be taken in for the reward.

Good luck and have fun

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, the rewarded contest has closed.

Brave mention: Kalidri for using clay

3d finalist place: Actionjack, reward 1 ZKey. Reason: Nice request filling, love the display of characteristics, unique style, but it won't be your average GW2 wallpaper.

2nd finalist place: Mudora, reward 1 ZKey. Reason: OMG the time you've put in this, the charr is awesome, the human face perfect, but a little too static pose especially the three on the left.

1st finalist place, but not the final winner: Sentient, reward 1 ZKey. Reason: Action, battle ready, nice muscle detail, nice dragon detail in the back, BUT the fifth character is a bit vague.

THE ULTIMATE WINNER, eventhough he did NOT enter for reward (due to no GW1, which is why I give the finalists equal prizes) *drums*: ALPHARAT (yes you may hate me, but hey...) It's action, brilliant lighting, dynamic poses and the necrotic effect is amazing. YOU SIR are the creator of my wallpaper
===============================

THE CHALLENGE STILL EXISTS NOW FOR FEEDBACK, FEEL FREE TO MAKE YOUR ARTS AND PRESENT THEM

I don't think you need to call it Art Challenge #14... just a Art contest should be better, since there are prize afterall.

And I don't think I will be jury.. since I will be entering.  But 5 char is so many....(got 3 only so far)

Step 1: Find a charr reference photo.
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Profit?

All I can say I've been doing.  Looking up charr photos from various poses, or looking up photos of big cats for facial inspiration.   Free-handing it from there.

I'm looking forward to seeing the entries!    Some nice ones to start out the contest so far.

Funny that you chose a group shot for the contest, King Drakeskullnl, since that's what I've been doing for Dynamics Events this week.  It's been a reminder to appreciate what the entries have to go through :)

Ive decided to do1 human, 1 sylvari, and 3 asurans.

I like asurans because theyre so small and less to work with. :) also because theyre the closest race to humans, besides norn and sylvari.

I would just do those, but norn are too big, and i need to start working on less human drawings since thats what i have the most trouble with lol

looking forward to entries, I am also looking forward how the artists will show a clear difference between classes (scholar, adventurer, soldier)

@ Con Artist, be sure to put in not only scholars but also a soldier or adventurer for the sake of variety

I may make detailed tutorials on all the five PC races at some point, but I'm waiting for ANet to nail down the designs and provide us with enough reference material. Until then, just pay attention to proportions and posture, and notice the peculiarities (four horns and ears, massive neck, hunched back on males, bushy tail on females). The charr are giant cat-beasts, treat them as such instead of trying to force them into the standard humanoid shape.

For a basic character/human figure tutorials, I always like to recommend this drawing book which I found very helpful.

http://www.amazon.co...k/dp/0399507914

It won't help you with charr though, as tmakinen points out, they are their own unique shape.

Interesting...might try it, but not as an official entry since I abhor deadlines when I do stuff for fun. I'd like to sculpt a group though, in miniature, if I get to it, would be fun to have a GW2 adventuring group for my PC top.

A couple hours of playing around with porcelain. I'll clean them up even more when they harden a little (omg we have sun in Seattle today!), and I have a firing later today, so they might even get finished in a week or so  I have a norn warrior with hammer, charr elementalist, sylvari necromancer, asura ranger with wolf and a human thief.  The asura is about an inch tall, the norn is a bit over two inches. That was a fun break from making my usual cute bunnies and foxes!

I may as well join this, even if only for the fun of it C:

Also: HOMG at Mudora's so far. I bet that will turn out amazing. Seriously.
Kalidri, yours looks really cool, and it's neat to see a different sort of thing compared to everything else here so far. I look forward to seeing the result!

Kalidri, that is really neat. It's nice to see some three-dimensional stuff. Are you going to paint them?

Yep they will get underglazed (color) and glazed after the bisque - the process will shrink them about 15%. Next time you see them they'll be all shiny and colorful if all goes well - the norn tattoos shall be fun, I might need a new liner brush!
