The real competitive people would make sure they BUY all the champions that they need in order to be competitive. Or you can continue being casual and play the free heroes. Your argument is invalid.

I get your point, actually I am with you in the idea, but, I casually play LoL, and I just play with one single hero I really like, I can say I never feel the need to "farm" or "buy" any other hero, I have more wins than loses. I have many heroes unlocked but I feel happy with that single hero, and yes, I feel I can win, and I feel I am competitive with that hero.

(Side Note: Wow! how many times you need to use the word "I" in english, amazing, 14 times!)

Actually, I bet DOTA2 will be free to play, with locked heroes EXACTLY as you don't want.

LoL's competitive scene has had a harder time getting off the ground. It doesn't really have the support for it, not to mention that it's much more casual. HoN, for most of it's life, had ALL heroes unlocked upon purchase. It's also a much less forgiving game.

Oh as far as the graphical presentation debate goes (for LoL v HoN) - I downloaded HoN yesterday and honestly had problems figuring out which of the creeps were friendly and which ones were enemy. :D A problem I never had in LoL. Even though they have different sprites, the color of their health bars and the size are pretty much the same, so in melee they kinda blend in visually. The ones in LoL are pretty similar looking in terms of their graphics, but the health bar colors make it much easier visually to distinguish between them.

And the shop is organized in a much more confusing way. It's easier to find an item if you know exactly what you're looking for, but if you don't, it requires quite a bit of clicking.

That's a dumb way to see who is "really" competitive. If it's just people willing to open their wallet a bit that get to have the top tier potential, your system is derpin'.

Seriously.

Perhaps the dynamic is a bit different in a dedicated PvP game, but it's widely accepted that GW's PvP scene stumbled extremely badly coming out of the gate simply because unlike in the beta events, accounts weren't fully unlocked for PvP.

Then again, the fact that LoL's competitive scene is flourishing despite most of their competitive players apparently needing to spend over $100 could indicate that they know something we don't.

I never played DOTA. Is that like an in-game shop where you buy things with the in-game currency you obtain throughout the game or is that like a cash shop?

If DOTA2 will have a cash shop then it will be like LoL. It would be stupid to put a cash shop in-game.

I'm pretty new to all of these games so they all look very similar to me. If you asked me to tell the difference, I can't. Not knocking the games, just giving my fresh-to-the-scene opinion. They all look really interesting that I'm going to try them out.

Any suggestions on which one to start with? LoL or DOTA?

LoL is more "noob"friendly.

In terms of how easy they are to pick up I would say

LoL > HoN > DoTA

For the current games that are available. LoL and HoN are free and DoTA is a Warcraft 3 map and is very limited in its interface due to it being a mod for another game.

the dota2 screen shots look awesome.  i wonder if they have all the dota heroes already in dota2.

i'm siked for the tournament at gamescom.  i played a lot of hon, but never dota.  i was curious about what the dota equivalent hereos were, and how the metagames differed between the games, so i learned what i could about dota.  i tried to watch a couple pro games but the graphics and animations make it pretty hard to watch if you haven't played it.  even when i know that andromeda is a direct port of vengeful spirit from dota, i can't tell what a VS is doing when i watch a dota match.

Never played lol or hon but want to jump into DotA 2 when it comes out. If I get rinsed hard oh well. Looks sweet.

I definitely like the very clean UI on DotA 2, and the segmented health is a great feature to take from LoL. The party UI at the top is also great, death timers. I'm wondering what that thing is between them. A compass would be a little useless, so perhaps a clock? Anyway, it's looking coo.

The UI looks so intuitive, I'm really digging it.
The art style is fine by me, I actually prefer it for a MOBA game.

I never played DotA/HoN/LoL but I tried Land of Chaos Online (LOCO) which is similar in its basis, but works in a third person vision instead of the rts style, it was cool to play for a bit but wasn't my thing that much for lack of friends to play with... but I'm definitely looking to play DOTA2, can't wait for gamescom. :D

Also...Shadow Fiend, let me play him, let me ;-;

He's a really hard to play hero in DoTA1. But he is fun as hell :)
