@Blixcoe: The CPU is somewhat on the weaker side of things though not that old so it should do fine for now. At your resolution with a 5570 you're looking at medium maybe.

@raphae1: Read the recommendations in the sticky as it depends on your resolution. To quote the laptop sticky, expect mostly high settings if you're running at 1366x768.

@Dawn: At your native resolution, the 220m will struggle at anything above low, sorry. The 220m was a weak GPU in it's time, the 9650m GT (two generations older) in my Asus N50Vn outperforms that 220m.

Read 5770 instead of 5570

Thanks Tijo, I've been thinking of building a desktop for awhile now anyways, now I just need to get the money and a part-time job XD.

Ur CPU isnt amazing, but it shouldnt be a problem, and your GPU is fairly strong, at that res, you should run on high with good FPS :)

Thank's coooturtle. Eh, and yeah I know the CPU isn't the best but it's pretty damn good for a dual core.

At that low resolution yuo probably max GW2.  On a 1080p monitor probably very high.

Toshiba P750/02J:
nVIDIA GT540M 1GB(DDR3) w/Optimus?
The 6770M is a bit more powerful but both should handle medium at 1080p, which could mean high on your laptop monitor because it probably isnt that high of a resolution.

5570 is very weak for a desktop gaming machine.  You are probably going to be at medium settings at that resolution.  A better graphics card would be the first choice for an upgrade to your PC if you ever decide to do that.

@ blixcoe - dhatcher is right, adding a $100 video card will probably allow you to play at very high settings at your resolution, you just want to make sure that your power supply can handle the extra load before buying anything.

This possible for Max. Settings with a steady 60 fps?

Lemme know what you think!

It's probably enough to max out the game and if you can't max it you'll only have to lower thing like AA a bit. Anyways, the difference between 2x and 4x AA at 1080p isn't too big so you probably won't notice it.

We almost have the same setup, i went for a GTX570 DCU II though.

Computer is like 7 years old and hasn't been upgraded or anything so I know it sucks.

Do you think it will decently run GW2 or is it time to buy a gaming laptop?

It's time to update your hardware, a P4 is antique at this point and the Netburst architecture was a bit of a flop if you ask me, there's a reason Intel went back to previous CPU architecture to design the core CPUs instead of building upon the one of the P4.

Any gaming laptop will literally destroy what you have right now. You could get a new desktop though.

Your CPU and GPU are pretty much the bare minimum for GW2, but your ram is sad, luckily it is very easy to upgrade :)

Apart from the RAM (which is very cheap, just get 4GB for around £30-35) i'd say the 8600GT build should be ok for medium at low resolutions like 1280x720.

In a word: No. There's basically nothing you can do apart from get a new computer, but it'll have had a good run :)

Also, unless you'll use a laptops mobility (would you use it on the move a lot? or are you away from home a lot?) just build a desktop for much cheaper :)

You probably underestimate the machine because of the 1GB of RAM ^^ I'd imagine it runs pretty slowly >< You'll see a significant increase in performance by getting 4GB. Follow that up by running something like tune up utilities (you can get a trial for it) and you'll have a decent computer :)

Up your RAM, run CCleaner, & Auslogic Disk Defrag.  Those 3 steps will probably make it feel like new again (actually faster with the RAM addition).

@ Avec - That PC is better than mine, and I plan on maxing it out, so you had better be flirting with 100 FPS @ 1080p or I want my money back. ;)

well im going to be going to university so theres no point in getting a desktop id only use for less than year. And i need a laptop anyway so i figure ill get a laptop near the end of this year that can replace my desktop (at least gaming wise) and that ill use in the future.

Say, i wondered how GW2 relates to AoC (age of conan) in respect to machine needs, this game has recently gone FtP and has rather high req's for max performance, but over the years it got tons of integration of settings options to let it be played on lesser machines. Do you guys think that GW2 is going to be comparable with AoC for as far as performance req. is concerned?

If so, then people wanting to know if their system can play GW2 could d/l AoC and see how their computer responds...

It's not known what "max" will be, but that system will certainly be at least close, if not better.

You'll be able to run it, I'm almost certain. Given how well ArenaNet has been at optimizing, you might even be able get the settings all the way up with a small enough resolution.

If you're going to uni, get a desktop for gaming and pick up a small netbook (pavilion dm1 with the amd e-350 for example) for work with your first student loan payment. Having just finished my degree i can say with certainty it's by far the best option for the student gamer. I started off with a 'gaming laptop' too :) So did most of my friends, and by 3rd year we all had desktops, it's just so much cheaper and better.

Plus, to be honest, even with a 'work netbook' it's not that often i'll use it in uni because there were so many computers. But i was doing a Physics degree at the second best department in the country, so i imagine the work netbook would be more useful in other departments that don't have such budgets to have loads of random computers.
