IV.Quotes & Tweets from ArenaNet

From one of the panels said:

“You can belong to as many guilds as you want. You can choose not to represent any of the guilds if you want to, or choose which one you would like to represent on any given day.”

“Talking about how they wanted to give people reasons to be in a guild. Earning “influence” when you do things with your guild. Can use influence to purchase, say, a flag that you can put down in an area and then anyone from your guild who’s near that flag gets an exp boost.”

“Guilds will earn influence and use this to unlock a skill tree of abilities to help the whole guild.”

“Guilds can own and upgrade “keeps” in WvWvW.”

“Influence can be used to unlock guild goodies, such as a flag to give an xp bonus.”

Eric Flannum said:

Hey guys, just thought I'd jump in and clarify some things. First, the term "scrapped" was an unfortunate choice of words on Jon's part. He tends to use very strong language to describe things even when it isn't warranted (all part of his charm). I think when most people think of something being "scrapped" they think of things being completely tossed out and restarted from square one which isn't at all what's happened with the trait system.

The changes that you will see made to traits, and the acquisition of skills all make use of and leverage things that were for the most part already in the game. To say we "scrapped" the trait system is an overstatement.

As to why we made these changes, when we explain the changes we'll explain why exactly we thought that we needed to make them. I think the changes are a huge positive improvement for the game but I'll leave that up to your judgement once we're able to explain things more fully.

The last point I wanted to make is that these changes have not delayed the game in any way. We are in Alpha and we are still on track for a Closed Beta sometime this year. From there we'll determine when open beta will take place which in turn will determine when we ship. That's the same plan we've been describing for most of the year.

In the meantime, thanks for all the patience and understanding you've shown, we'll try our best to live up to your expectations.

In depth Warrior videos in general would be nice to see how much, if any, things have changed for them as well.

I don't know if you want to call this "Chit Chat" But, We need live stream feeds and links to them like they had for GamesCom.

I don't understand why PAX doesn't have any.

This probably won't be as exciting as gamescom, since there isn't anything new, but maybe we'll get some high quality videos of some areas people didn't explore much in the last demo.

I would imagine that any coverage of PAX GW2 will just be more of what we got from Gamescom, only in english.

That one panel is supposed to have information about the next book though, so we might be getting that little tidbit as well.

Am I right in surmising that the livestream won't start for another two hours, then?

I'm hoping to see a starter demo for the elementalist so I can see whether they learn skills for each attunement at once or must learn the skills separately.  That and the hidden boss statue in the charr starter are all I'm dying to see, though I'll probably watch anything else of good quality.

No new information notwithstanding, I'm excited.  :D

I'd love to see some HD footage of the Charr tutorial/personal story and the Black Citadel. Make it happen, PAX goers!

I think you will like this Direct feed with sound HD video from Wartower from the Charr tutorial and starter area from Gamescom :) They advance in the personal story quite far.

They said that you'll have to learn them separately. I can't recall where, though.

Such a nice video with perfect quality. I loved the end of the video in the arena battle. The player did pretty well and that last fight looked hard as hell. Without using ranged weapons it would be quite difficult to complete.

Actually the best part of that video was seeing how important strategic fighting can be in tough battles in GW2.  The second battle in the arena, he almost died but he smartly dodged the big sword attacks, and thus beat the guy.  That final battle, he was unable to dodge two rocks that the devourer threw at him, and they took about 50% of his health each time.  However, if he had somehow managed to dodge as he moved up closer to attack, he might have been able to go toe to toe with the beast and take it down.

All in all, yet another example of how the combat is different from other MMOs we've seen... it's like they went and did what AoC was trying to do with the dodge mechanic, and got it right.
