What is the point of a guild hall? is a good question though, it'd be cool if Anet works on guild halls and gives them some special touches that make them more than just a place to meet your guild at.

To meet for GVG which is not in GW2, so no point really.

Yup. You can take your guild or some people in it say 5 members from your guild and go pvping. Don't forget about guild play in WvWvW.

WvWvW and Conquest share NO similarities whatsoever with the mechanics required for GW 1 competitive GvG.
This argument is dumb...

To be honest GvG was pretty much the point of Guild Wars 1 and a more controlled form of the actual guild wars. With this system the whole Guild Wars lore thing is basically the only thing going on the name. It sems rather odd that guild wars 2 seems to be lacking the wars between guilds a bit. Even the Lore in GW1 is pretty much detached and unimportant towards the rest of the game, other than the actual GvG.
(not that I personally care too much, but it does strike a bit odd)
Guild Halls not being in the initial release is just about the same thing I suppose. Seeing the arguments that you don't need this early game are kind of true. Still a bit meh about it =)

I hope if a Guild can claim keeps/landmarks in WvWvW that will be a replacement for Guild Halls.

This is just silly.

And as far as it goes to the ones that just generally like to have them, as far as I understood they are not having them at release but that just might end up with them making ones later in game.

That being said, it could be a really cool RP thing, and is better than just sitting in the middle of a city... and decorating it could be a guild activity and influence-sink. Guilds could pimp out halls and show off...
I'm hoping for actual guild wars. It'd be cool to invite another guild over to your guild hall and fight 5v5 deathmatches or something.

They're a player investment thing, which is hard to define in terms of hard value but can be very important to the longevity of a game or quality of a community. The same is true of individual player housing. If you give players a space that's "theirs" and allow them some control over it, there's a bond between the players and that space. It's not just a convenient spot to hold a guild meeting uninterrupted, it's their hall, that they worked for and made their own. Naturally that doesn't hold true for every guild, but with a complex enough customization and amenities system, it would have a much greater effect.
Nothing like that is really useless in an MMO, even if it seems like pure fluff. Every cosmetic system or minigame or pointless bauble adds to the depth of the world and helps make it more than a cardboard set for our characters to move around in.

To the people asking "Why have guild halls at all?", I have only one thing to say: Because they're -ours-. It is like player housing, for an entire guild. In GW1, you had an entire island fortress... that made you pretty important, and pretty powerful. It was fun to have, and one of the best things about guilds that I've seen in GW1.
Also, pro-tip and suggestion to the developers, don't make getting/upgrading a guild hall expensive or time-consuming. Heck, I wouldn't mind if they gave you a guild hall just for forming a guild; something to meet up at, expand, roleplay, you name it.

That's stupid. Having something to work towards as a guild is awesome. Having 1 main goal that everyone pitches in to accomplish helps build the guild itself and once you have it that sense of accomplishment is awesome.

He mentioned that there will be no Guild Halls on release as we want to make Guild Halls a great experience and not just a "place". We will introduce player housing at some point after launch, and at that time we will also implement guild halls.

Please be in the home instance or off doors that lead to a new instance that are all over the city. Having houses out in the wilderness is just... tacky :)

With the money from the first week after launch they can keep adding the extra things to the game without u a problem. I just hope they can do it very fast after launch so people won't quit it and tell their friends how unfinished it is. I don't see that happening tho. The game is going to be huge at launch already :)
