I'd rather have the guild halls in an update/xpac and have the game sooner, than wait a few months extra just for guild halls. They are awesome and def. need to be in the game, but I can go without guild halls as long as when they do add them they are badass.

A place for guild members to hang out without outside people, a place for meetings and etc.

What is the point of a guild hall? is a good question though, it'd be cool if Anet works on guild halls and gives them some special touches that make them more than just a place to meet your guild at.

To meet for GVG which is not in GW2, so no point really.

Like Twitch says, it's not too big a loss. Guilds won't be that established at launch and if guild halls cost a pretty penny to obtain anyway then I'd say most guilds won't be able to afford the guild halls for a while too. By my estimate, ANet would at least have 2 to 4 weeks to get the halls implemented.

Its a less crowded map that provide a central meting point for all guild members. I don't really care if ther not ther at the start i remember how much they coasted at the beginning of the game they were not cheap that's for damn sure

Probably, you have to unlock guild hall with influence. So not having guild halls at release is not a big problem imo because you have to gather the resources to buy it anyway.

For all the people who say you can't GvG,  I remember reading somewhere that competitive pvp can go from 5v5 to up to 10v10, so I think you should be able to do an 8v8 reminiscent of GW1.

Guild Halls will not be there on release, however there will be a full blown guild AND player housing system when they have time to do it well.

Yup. You can take your guild or some people in it say 5 members from your guild and go pvping. Don't forget about guild play in WvWvW.

WvWvW and Conquest share NO similarities whatsoever with the mechanics required for GW 1 competitive GvG.

This argument is dumb...

According to Mondes Persistants GW2 will have enough GvG content:

Quote

M.P.: Will it be possible to organize guild events with more flexibility than in Guild Wars 1, where it was only limited to friendly Guild vs Guild fights?

C.J.: Nothing is announced yet, but there will certainly be many things available for Guild VS Guild content.

Get 5 buddies from your guild, represent it and play structured PVP. That's their answer for GVG. Not to mention GW didn't not get it's name from GVG but from http://wiki.guildwar.../The_Guild_Wars
The Guild Wars = GvG ??? xD It would be silly to have the game being named about something that happened over 300 years ago in history.

To be honest GvG was pretty much the point of Guild Wars 1 and a more controlled form of the actual guild wars. With this system the whole Guild Wars lore thing is basically the only thing going on the name. It sems rather odd that guild wars 2 seems to be lacking the wars between guilds a bit. Even the Lore in GW1 is pretty much detached and unimportant towards the rest of the game, other than the actual GvG.
(not that I personally care too much, but it does strike a bit odd)

Guild Halls not being in the initial release is just about the same thing I suppose. Seeing the arguments that you don't need this early game are kind of true. Still a bit meh about it =)

No Guild Hall...

I hope if a Guild can claim keeps/landmarks in WvWvW that will be a replacement for Guild Halls.

Awww I'm really sad there won't be guild halls on release. I honestly wouldn't mind waiting a little extra for them. So many of my friends are iffy about this game and I'm trying my hardest to get them interested. Putting guild features off for a later date will suck.

The main purpose for a guild hall in most games aside from RP is for amenities. Hopefully whatever they get around to adding later will have some value to it whether it be for crafting or storage or whatever.

Well guild halls really serve no meaning, if you have a huge guild and want to have a meeting you might as well take it to any other town.

And as far as it goes to the ones that just generally like to have them, as far as I understood they are not having them at release but that just might end up with them making ones later in game.

Guild Halls are a little confusing to me as well. I mean, really cool feature, don't get me wrong. But with the fast travel system... why would you meet anywhere besides where you want to go? Like... if you want to go to Orr, why would you be like "Meet at the guild hall! Then we'll all go to Orr!" When you could all just teleport to the waypoint in Orr.

That being said, it could be a really cool RP thing, and is better than just sitting in the middle of a city... and decorating it could be a guild activity and influence-sink. Guilds could pimp out halls and show off...

I'm hoping for actual guild wars. It'd be cool to invite another guild over to your guild hall and fight 5v5 deathmatches or something.

They're a player investment thing, which is hard to define in terms of hard value but can be very important to the longevity of a game or quality of a community.  The same is true of individual player housing.  If you give players a space that's "theirs" and allow them some control over it, there's a bond between the players and that space.  It's not just a convenient spot to hold a guild meeting uninterrupted, it's their hall, that they worked for and made their own.  Naturally that doesn't hold true for every guild, but with a complex enough customization and amenities system, it would have a much greater effect.

Nothing like that is really useless in an MMO, even if it seems like pure fluff.  Every cosmetic system or minigame or pointless bauble adds to the depth of the world and helps make it more than a cardboard set for our characters to move around in.

Depends on the guild, but most guilds I have been in have used their halls in GW, especially when gathering to make a group for pve and pvp. They are also social areas where emotes, role play and showing off new toys and wardrobe doesn't have to spam public areas. Though with grouping being less important in GW2 pve, maybe it is not such a big deal. Also, I am guessing you can also gather in a personal instance if you want to meet, group and travel

Dunno about you guys but I only use my guild hall to access the vendors.  Pressing G is quicker than jumping to another town, not to mention that most locations large enough to have mat traders and stuff will spread them all over the map.

Maybe they will leave them out permanently to try and keep people hanging out in major cities.

Personally, I'm extremely disappointed in no guild halls at release. I just hope this means they're making them even grander and more fun when the time comes round for their implementation.

To the people asking "Why have guild halls at all?", I have only one thing to say: Because they're -ours-. It is like player housing, for an entire guild. In GW1, you had an entire island fortress... that made you pretty important, and pretty powerful. It was fun to have, and one of the best things about guilds that I've seen in GW1.

Also, pro-tip and suggestion to the developers, don't make getting/upgrading a guild hall expensive or time-consuming. Heck, I wouldn't mind if they gave you a guild hall just for forming a guild; something to meet up at, expand, roleplay, you name it.

That's stupid. Having something to work towards as a guild is awesome. Having 1 main goal that everyone pitches in to accomplish helps build the guild itself and once you have it that sense of accomplishment is awesome.

That's stupid. If you want that feeling of accomplishment with your guild go run a hard Dungeon or wreck the battlefield in PvP.

It is helpful to take Eric's full statement into account.

He mentioned that there will be no Guild Halls on release as we want to make Guild Halls a great experience and not just a "place". We will introduce player housing at some point after launch, and at that time we will also implement guild halls.

Please be in the home instance or off doors that lead to a new instance that are all over the city. Having houses out in the wilderness is just... tacky :)

Interesting. It seems that Anet is really planning to launch the core of the game first. Have the foundation standing. That's prolly why they keep changing things like skill aquisition, traits etc. instead of adding guild halls and other things like that. I think it's a smart move. The extra things can always be added later while changing major things like traits etc. some day after launch will be much harder.

With the money from the first week after launch they can keep adding the extra things to the game without u a problem. I just hope they can do it very fast after launch so people won't quit it and tell their friends how unfinished it is. I don't see that happening tho. The game is going to be huge at launch already :)

I cant imagine, people playing on like 50000000 different guilds, i would imagine someone joining a PvP guild, a PvE guild, and a friends guild. And if you are "representing" one guild, im sure your other guild will still see you and see you are "representing" another guild and be able to chat with you and stuff. ANet hasnt screwed up yet badly yet, people just think they have.
