Gear in GW2 will have stats just like in GW1 and the armor will have 3 dye channels and allot more color options to choose from. No gear will be over powerd at any level in the game or in pvp. There will be many different armor and weapons sets to make you look different from all the rest of the players.

Armor items provide a defense modifier and can also modify attributes. Armor statistics and bonuses can be changed during customization, so the benefits offered to the character aren't necessarily determined by appearance

Upgrade components

All armor pieces come with a special slot where an upgrade component can be applied. These components grant additional bonuses to the armor, granting an advantage to characters in combat. Each upgrade component has six levels of bonuses. For example, for each Crest of the Legion a scholar has equipped, he gains one extra bonus from the Crest of the Legion bonus list. If the crest is added to each of the six armor pieces, all of the bonuses that the upgrade provides will be unlocked.

Transmutation

The appearance of one armor piece can be joined with the statistics of another by using a transmutation stone.

Gear will be like in WoW. It will be also unlike in WoW.

Gear system resembles WoW's in a way that there's strong gear customization (various gear stats and bonuses), and gear progression from level 1 to 80 (items get better as you level).

It will be unlike WoW after you reach level 80 or enter structured PvP. Basically, all level 80 / PvP gear is equal (though varied). No matter how long you play there, you won't get items with better stats, only better looking ones.

You should also be aware that part of how they plan on balancing structured pvp is by making everyone in pvp equal stats. The more powerful looking gear is exactly that, more powerful looking.

Unstructured pvp, mainly WvW, will not have this strict balance and you can tear up an undergeared player.

Now i think, can some powerlooking gear have some sort of psycical effects on opponents ?? I would think of it this way if i had som starter gear, and meets someone with GREAT LOOKING GEAR, OMG let me get away from that big ******* there....

"Powerful" I don't know (because the game will be certainly like the previous, there will be normalization in number so that the gear is part of the build, but not the most important part), but there will be special effects like to ghostly weapons, these weapons don't have the same stats at night (by day they usually give hp but they are vampiric by night).

So we will have unique weapons, but I don't think we will have the legendary OP stuff mandatory to survive the last raid (you know, like in wow).

Well, you might be intimidated on a psychological level, which is cool

But the the gear wont affect pvp gameplay, which is great.
