Quote

Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kekai Kotaki has always had a passion for art. Finding the sunshine and beautiful scenery distracting, he moved to dreary Seattle in 2000 to attend art school. After graduating, he proceeded to attempt a career at doing art. This meant getting a job at ArenaNet, the makers of the Guild Wars franchise, as a lowly texture artist. Through hard work and more than a little luck he was able to become a concept artist.

He also made some great art for the Magic: the Gathering card game, if anyone knows what that is. In particular, his art for the card "Lorthos the Tidemaker" is stunning. Was really surprised when I recognized his name there.

All of their work is simply amazing. Each artist is truly an artist, ANet knows how to find talent. I can't think of very many games where the concept artists have their own fan base.

Nice find. He makes brilliant pictures!

Although, are all the pictures GW1/2 related? I noticed many that was, but there are others that look like GW2 arts. :surprised:

Some are indeed from the artbook, but others just look like different projects that are not Guild Wars 2.

Saw a picture off a coruppted charr and a human warrior. The human had an axe and was jumping down towards the charr to cut him! Could this be a feature in GW2?

If one doesn't go freestyle one can't evolve :).

Wonder if the workshop will be downloadable ?

Anyone else think #5 looks like it could be Lyssa concept art?

Mesmer colour tone, decorations associated with beauty (feathers, flowers) contrasting with chaotic-looking geometric designs, magical gesture, and mask...

To anyone who's interested in watching how he works, Kekai and some other concept artists are participating in a workshop in the Seattle area later this month. It's being put on by FuturePoly, here's the info...
