[Red Intensity]

To me, this game looks freaking awesome. I mean, if a small indie team can conjure up something like this and it's far more interesting than most upcoming AAA titles, then something's wrong. I love Mech games (with the exception of Front Mission Evolved and Armored Core: Nine Breaker) and to me, there isn't enough of them, and with all these Medieval or space marine-esque Action/RPG's that are rapidly flooding the market, the mech genre is just as niche as PC JRPG's (oxymoronic, I know).

Definitely looks amazing.  

Man, I really want a A+ class Mech game.  Take Battlefield 3's Frostbyte engine with destructible terrain and throw these mechs in there, with a plethora of different mech styles and customization....I'd be a happy gamer.

Those videos came out just as I was looking back on the old mech games and thinking of picking up one for cheap. I'm definitely excited for this title and hope it does well. Just the hud makes it impressive to watch.

It looks super solid, definitely looking forward to it and the fact that a indie developer is making it just makes it sweeter since they can concentrate well on the niche playerbase without fearing taking risks that differ from the mainstream.

I signed up for the beta, but it doesn't appear to have started yet as far as I can tell.  The official release is 12/12/12, but when does the closed beta start?

Yeah, look like a good game.  While not a big fan of the mech genre, I do want to give it a try.
The art style and the graphic look great, for a (I think) Free to Play game.

Hope they add some extra spices and elements (not found in typical mech game) to kick it up bit more too.

The only thing I'm worried about is UE3. It sounds ridiculous, but this engine is not very good for the multiplayer games. Stock netcode is terrible, ofc no lag compensation, 1st person spectating is not supported. I hope they improved it, otherwise the game will fail miserably.

Oh and LOOK AT THE FREAKING CONTROLLER !!!! Reminds me of the crazy Steel Batallion controller... Obviously it's optional, but it looks like a sci-fi/mech/space sim geeks wet dream to me

It's programmable too... Could use it for space sims... My poor wallet. Better start saving up >

So I've been messing around with the Beta today (it was extended one day, and there is no NDA).  It's fun.  Nothing spectacular, but fun.  Simple controls, the medium ranged combat is intense, the short ranged combat ends too quickly for my tastes, and the long range sniping is delicious.  Except for intermittent disconnects, bug free so far.  I just wish the vertical thrust output on the medium and light chassis had more power.

It's entertaining, so it can't hurt to play.  Especially since it is gonna be free to play.

Also, that HAWKEN controller is COMPLETELY unnecessary.  The majority of your control use is SHIFT, SPACE, WSAD, LMB, RMB, MMB.  And, really, that's about it.


My biggest gripe with it, really, is that their art team is horrible.  I get the 'cobbled together' look is their goal, but, like... one literally looks like an old boxy TV on legs.  Where's the sloped armor?  It's both aesthetically and defensively better looking then a blood thirsty TeeVo. >_<

They're customization options and they aren't all implemented yet. More mechs are also going to be added later.

All the same, it's a funky funky aesthetic.  To be honest, TeeVo-Bot is the worst offender.  The rest you're just too busy trying to kill to notice or care.

Since playing more, I even managed to go on a 10 kill zero death streak.  Just playing it cool, pumping Mechwarrior skills into it.  Not thrusting or needlessly firing weapons which give my position away, and abusing the hell out of cover.  Repair mode is your friend. XD

I currently love the TDM mode, though the mode with the Battleships is pretty damned intense too.  And surprisingly it boasts a very clear integrated VOIP which is used to great effect in team modes.  New gripe is that in the mode with the battleship, it takes too much damage from mech launched munitions, making holding the AAA Launcher less important then it should be.  Important, but not as important as it should be at all.  The heavy units, too, when they go into lock down are downright scary.  Take almost no damage unless shot at from behind and are armed to the teeth with ludicrously high damage attacks.

That said, the sniper units hit really, really hard as well, taking 3-4 shots to down a medium, 2 shots to down a light.  With additional hits from the primary weapon of course.  Not so easy when you realize everyone and their mother is out to get you once they figure out where you're shooting from, but that's part of the fun. XD

From last night. I was attempting to make a high KDR score that game, so I was playing extremely cautious.

There are still TONS of beta keys to be had from MMObomb.  Probably from PC Gamer as well.

Pretty fun.  The control was more smooth than I would thought, but still have that mech feel.

After having played both this and MechWarrior Online, I'd have to say I prefer Hawken more. While MWO is definitely more sim-like and appeals to those players, I like that Hawken feels more twitch while still feeling like you're piloting a mech. Since I'm a bigger Japanese Mecha fan than a western Mecha fan, that appeals to me more.

See, I like how there is that clear difference. I am the opposite. I like both but prefer the slower tactical sim approach. However, since they offer totally different mech experiences I can enjoy both and not feel like they are competing with each other.

Sadly, there will be hundreds if not thousands of people who just see mechs in both and decide one MUST be the better mech game. Which is silly. What is better? Playing a combat flight sim or playing a racing car game? Both have vehicles but the similarity ends there.
