Hey guys, I've been in the Diablo III beta for a few days now (friends and family phase!) and it's shaping up to be a really fun game. The combat is really visceral and the music is pretty awesome too (even if the Tristram theme isn't as great as it was in I and II) I've started making a few videos of it which you can see on my channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/Bulbaboy.

Right now there's only three videos, but I've started a Barbarian Let's Play and I'll be doing some other miscellanious D3 vids to accompany it. I'm a pretty fledgling uploader so I'm still getting used to commentating, but yeah. Take a peek if you're interested in the game and subscribe if you're feeling really generous!

Self-plugging aside, I'd be willing to answer any questions you might have, preferably ones that are gameplay-oriented, because I'm not all that tech-savvy! I know a more widely available Closed Beta is starting very soon, but I thought you guys might still appreciate it if I tried to answer any questions you have about the game as best as I can. :)

Graphics aside, do you feel the game is an improvement over Diablo and Diablo II?

I didn't play a load of the old Diablo games, to be honest, but from what I've seen so far? No, I'd say D3 is basically on par with the other Diablo games for a few different reasons - one of them being that I really like depth in my Action RPGs and I kind of feel like Blizzard have (as Blizzard seems prone to do in the last few years) really simplified the game and one term that's becoming popular seems kind of relevant in calling it 'World of Diablocraft'. My memory of the other Diablo games is hazy, though, so maybe some of the stuff I have a beef with (such as the extremely simple crafting) was in the older games too and I'm just not remembering.

I also would've appreciated more classes. The 5 that are available are pretty cool, but I feel like some archetypes are missing - for example, I personally feel that there should've been a seperate Paladin character instead of fitting it into the Monk class.

I played the demo at Blizzcon last year with some friends.  I never had an interest in the old Diablo games (bought one and played it a few times but it wasn't my thing) but I thought it was amazingly fun.  Not sure if is something I would want to get into but I may give it a try when it comes out.

A lot of people's "archetypes" are missing. The Diablo III classes are relatively original, even though mechanically familiar, their flavor is downright exotic. Witch Doctors as a "warlock" class, Monks as "paladins", the beefy Barbarian is actually an old guy with a fair number of spirit attacks, etc. This isn't an issue of "not enough classes" so much as Blizzard intentionally pushing outside of a western fantasy comfort zone, and it's a rare thing I applaud.

Well, sure, but I'd like some more classes to choose from, personally. I have no problem with them making new classes that are original, but I'd rather them not only make 5 of them and pass it off as originality, especially when some of them are just traditional classes rolled into one - Demon Hunter is an Archer and a Rogue, Monk is a martial artist and a Paladin, etc.

Don't get me wrong, they're really fun, I'd just prefer some more variety.

I'm interested in the variety of weapon modifiers that have been created for DIII.  Have you found an X% chance of doing whatever on hit, or anything similar to those kinds of mods?

Those are skill runes, not weapon effects.

Barbarians have a few passives that deal with shields... that's about it.

I've seen an hour+ of footage of the beta. I find it really boring and not worth my time. Try to sell D3 to me.

As much as I loved d2 and as much as I would love to enjoy d3 as well, just too many design decisions have been made which make it impossible for me to buy the game.

Oh dear, I remember when playing RPGs was about playing a build that fits your preferred style of gameplay, now it's minmaxing months before release for optimal PvE and PvP performance usually boosted by exclusive preorder/cashshop items :)

heh, for me it still is. the builds are modified as i go in the game for best performances usually around a chosen playstyle.

i think your last comment is more suited for games like; dragon age. there where a lot of items you could pay for to maximize performances. i think that is more dubious then the real money action house in diablo 3, which will take place regardless of blizzards own "secure" version of it.

anyhow i've made some pve builds.

here are my pve builds, i've just come up with. i'll modify the build as i go for the best efficient result.

my builds are mostly focused on maximizing the benefits of passive skills:

i think an all zombie build is plain awesome, so i'm trying to make an effective build around this one
zombie pve build: http://eu.battle.net...jPZh!Xde!bcaacc

the passive skill rush of essence will be most useful in this build, i think its a interesting and fun build to experiment with
spirit pve build: http://eu.battle.net...Ugij!Wde!aZcYcc

again maximizing the effectiveness of the passive skills, with this build using a lot of cooldown heavy skills, i'm maximizing the use of vision quest.
cooldown pve build: http://eu.battle.net...PZTd!edU!ZZbcZc

Few things bother me about D3. First there is the real money auction, no brainer here.
Second is that you can get the best items in inferno mode but when you die in that mode everything on that char, items and the char itself is gone.

you've got hardcore mode and inferno mode mixed up. you can make a softcore and/or a hardcore mode character. the softcore characters doesn't got a permanent death.
and inferno mode is the highest mode in softcore, where the mobs will have a max level of 61, while your at max 60 lvl.

hardcore mode is where your character will face a permanent death. in this mode you can't use the real money auction house and trading between softcore modes is not permitted.

There will be a real life money auction house/ebay type system implemented. There also will be an in game auction house which uses game currency.

With skyrim around when this launchs I will probably forget that diablo 2 even had a *cough*monetized*cough* sequel
Nothing against, but some games that are launching outperfom this , but of course the nostalgia will be fuel enough

Are you sure about that. Because I am pretty sure I read somewhere(of course can't find it) that inferno was basicly the end game of D3.
