My friend just bought this game in hopes of making a little bit of cash via the auction house. Do you guys think this was a good idea? Or do you think it's even likely he'll get his money's worth?

I'm not even level 60 on Diablo 3 yet, but I'm getting kind of tired of playing through the same levels on each playthrough.
I think that's how most ARPG's work.

If he waits until the next expansion, maybe. The window of opportunity with the current item pool has long since sailed, and it will take months of grinding (or crazy luck) to turn up anything decent right now.

Well, unless you want to invest enough cash into quickly gearing for MP6+ or whatever. Maybe you have a shot at turning it around then.

Brace yourselves.
As of yesterday, Blizzard announced at the ps4 live stream, they will release Diablo 3 for both ps3 and ps4.

My reaction. ಠ_ಠ Why? why..
When I was younger I did like Diablo 2. But sincerely I think D3 is one of the most boring games I've ever played.

Indeed, I would rather have them fix the current game on PC before porting it to consoles.
Still waiting for that awesome and groundbreaking PvP we where told would be in game a few months before launch

I played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on my GC and I really enjoyed it. So with that in mind, I don't REALLY have a problem with Blizz porting D3 to the consoles.

I also started playing it again recently - been actually playing it more than GW2. I am currently levelling up my barbie and I plan on getting him to 60 and then I'll restart him again. I think I might have played him before the loot change so he has some strange gear on him, which makes it a bit "interesting" to play him. Still, words can not express how much I wish that Whirling Axe functioned the same way Whirlwind does. Or that GW2s Locust Swarm was as amazing as the D3 version. Or ...
Seriously, those are some mighty fun skills!

Yeah the game does have really fun skills. BUT! IMO A big part of their fun is how ridiculously powerful they are :) In MMOs like GW2, WoW etc where both PvE and PvP balance are of paramount importance it's just not feasible. I think it's one of the sacrifices MMOs make - skills just don't feel as awesome as they do in ARPGs.

Aye, the fact that their PvP is a joke makes it much easier to create fun PvE skills. Still, the reason why I love some of the D3 skills really isn't (just) because they are super powerful - it's more about how they manage to look. For instance, if we compare Locust Swarm, the GW2 version is just utterly plain looking whereas the D3 looks and feels the way this skill should.

Yeah they're pretty crazy :D D3 with all its shortcomings is not a bad game at all, and has pretty beefy combat and really cool skills, cooler than GW2 (which is still quite good in that department IMO, especially as MMOs go). Though as I said, for me at least, half of the fun is that the skills are indeed as powerful as they look. I mean, a meteor storm would kill anything IRL, in an MMO they simply do x damage and tack a small percentage of enemy health bars, in ARPGs they actually feel like meteor storms! Though to be fair in GW2 the ele's meteor storm wasn't half bad and felt quite strong, maybe not as much as in an ARPG but still pretty good.

It also depends on the feel of the game. In a grayer, gritty, more "realistic" setting like Gothic, the Witcher etc Diablo 3's skils would feel very out of place since they're so (awesomely) over the top.

Looks better in D3, but that's not a surprise is it? An action rpg with max 4 players can beef up the gfx way more than any MMO.
I kinda stopped playing D3, don't even bother to logon once in a while :/
