Consider, if you will; constant internet connection seems to serve no purpose other than to ensure the consistency of their auction house. If the saves were stored offline, that would mean someone could devise a save game editor, and that means either the corruption of the system via item spam, or worse, the complete absence of anyone actually using the auction house since they just download editors to get the item instead (thus removing a revenue stream for blizzard). Thus, no LAN play or offline gaming, because they need to keep the artificial rarity of the items maintained.
Likewise, it creates a very pessimistic view of updates and patches. If stats get changed, and one popular item is nerfed, was that change necessary for the game or did the developers just shuffle things around to ensure that people need to change up their gear, many via the auction house, in order to remain at the top of their game? It's hard to say, but the cut blizzard takes from all the items posted certainly provides a greedy incentive for them to keep the wheels greased.
some good points, however they don't need to nerf anything, because the game is not focused on pvp.
they will probably fix anything that is unexpectedly game breaking.
anyhow, for everyone else who are waiting for this game; here is the opening cinematic for D3

Yeah I loved it also and many here in these forums are Diablo 1 veterans like we both are:). Diablo 1 was one the best games together with Baldurs Gate games in the 90ies.

diablo lll is a game that's going to be released soon by blizzard, it's an rpg that has set standards in the past.
they just released the opening cinematic today :
I really liked it, however, the beginning instantly reminded me of guild wars 2's art style, anyone else feels the same?

I did find it somewhat amusing they openned the dream sequence almost "painterly", but clearly was comic book inspired to differentiate itself from GW2 trailers.

this just means that there would be third party trades going on.

I prefer they to be illegal, the argument "ppl will still do it" doesnt hold at all, there are tons of illegal things that are still being done that you should remove the law entirely.
This is good news for me, hope more countries add to this.

i disagree and i think that kind of law is BS, i want to see this RMAH going live. not just because this kind of trade already exist outside of blizzard, but because i like to see how this goes, pure curiosity. all those people who want to stop it are scared before seeing how things goes and at the same time stopping it would be bad for business model innovation. i'll happily buy Diablo 3 with RMAH.

My main concern is the future of this feature. Call this whatever you want, but for me this is the beginning of the end of gaming.
Why? If this thing is successful, them games would be able to gain money while being utter shit, because ppl will invest time into getting real money from their grind (lets be real, they are again rewarding the ppl that will farm the same boss again, and again, and again, and again, i call that WoW 2, and they were very successful with WoW 1). And your right, im scared, i see this as a possible threat to the current quality of games that are being produced, and the main reason being that is coming from ActiBlizzard hands.
I really hope im wrong, but i will not buy the game until it proves itself.
EDIT: Robsy128 you prove me right, haha.

if dumb gamers want to grind in an mmo with subscription fee, go ahead, i call you names, but i won't spend my money on it.
RMAH doesn't make games by default bad, bad games are bad by default regardless of the inclusion of RMAH.
if RMAH really proves to be bad, i'll simply stop buying diablo games, and wait for a game company to do things differently.
but for now lets make it happen.

Dumb consumers are the majority, and thats the problem here. We already saw how much damage the wow carrot on a stick formula can do to the MMO industry just because the world is full of dumb consumers.
But yes, i didnt said that RMAH will make bad games, the problem is that it could make bad games successful where in a normal situation they wouldnt.
And still, we dont know how much the RMAH will affect the game, no one will know until the game is released and they:
- Reduce drop rate to insane levels so ppl will be grinding their life for a longer time, items will sell for more money ( more money for blizzard ) preventing a flood of the market, increasing the importance of the RMAH.
Common ppl like you and me, that will ( well, im not sure if i will play like i said ) play the game normally, will probably never see a gold drop.
- Keep the game normal, and make it a nice addition that could or couldnt work for they.
This is the first thing that comes to my mind when i think on it. They did that in wow, were you need to insanely farm raids months, and months ( that you pay, because of subs ) to get that nice item that you want, or even to be able to play through all the content of the game YOU paid for.

i treat RMAH the same way as microtransaction, if the company f-ups with it, ill simply say goodbye. will dumb consumers still play gw2 when they sell stuff that are controversial, i bet they will.
so i'll play both these games i'll just wait and see how it unfolds.

And i do, i will not trust the ingame shop until i see it. In fact, the only F2P games i do play, are the ones i know that the IGN shop doesnt have any detrimental effect on the game. The difference between both is that F2P wasnt that successful so it didnt changed the industry at all and most companies sold only cosmetically things. The ones that were trully affected were the eastern games, which mostly are P2W grindy low quality and repeated games, i dont want the same here thanks to the RMAH. (And Korea is the first to ban it, oh the irony)
But well, lets stop the discussion because it has nothing to do with D3 and more with the RMAH, and i think we are both right with the difference that i want to kill a potential problem that could be or not a problem at all :).

blizzard is certainly exploring the possibilities to port diablo 3 to consoles, but there is no official confirmation of any console releases: http://www.gameinfor...nfirmation.aspx
i think we will see some new control devices in next gen consoles, like the Wii U controller would be a good alternative way to play point and click games.

i haven't played any diablo games before, it wasn't in my interest at all at the time to play such a dull looking hack and slash game. but i'm very much looking forward to this gritty fantasy rpg in it's third instalment. to me personally it look to be the best of the diablo games, from graphics and how they take direction of the story with amazing cgi; angels and demon's, they both look terrifying and can't wait to see it, play it.
as for titan, i've no clue what to expect of something that is so unknown.

I saw Diablo 3 at PAX 2010 (didn't see it at 2011), and I watched my buddy play it there. It looked pretty boring (I think he was playing monk), but he said it was a ton of fun. I'm not a big fan of the character classes, only barbarian or wizard look all that interesting to me.
It looks like something that I'll probably get a month's worth of fun out of, so I'll pick it up. I know I won't get into it enough to do the IRL money auction house thing though.

It is a new IP from a company that does not create a new IP for atleast a decade
This alone makes me interested
And they create good IPs (they just ****ed up with warcraft when the mmo released)

yea, i knew that much as well about titan and it doesn't excite me with little to no info on it. and i wouldn't call WoW f-edup, people just grow tired of the same formula and the cash-flow from that game will probably help financing project "titan".
did you know WoW could have been an MMO called "nomad", however project nomad came to an end and blizzard looked to use the warcraft lore for their mmo.
i think the Warcraft IP with existing lore boosted its popularity for the mmo-game.

No because killing every important character without any decent story to back this up dosn't hurt the lore at all.
WoW killed warcraft. The only way there can be a warcraft 4 is if they forget about WoW and continue where the expension ended. But they have no intention to make a warcraft 4 so wtv..
