Here I am again with some great news! I just uploaded an exclusive interview with Colin Johanson, where he answers questions that haven't been answered before!
If this sounds like something you'd want to see, you can check it out here:

I don't think I will ever get tired of listening to this guy even though I have heard all of this countless times.

He said, sometimes gameplay trumps realism. Let's not distort quotes to avoid sparking a war, shall we?

Either way, I'm surprised that they actually have pet spawning animations in place, unless I misunderstood. Sort of grew used to the whole puff of smoke that most other MMOs do.

Hey, ArenaNet. We Poke'Rangers need a way to store our collections without having to release them for a new one. It doesn't have to be complex at launch, I'd be happy with a simple menu system or little icon interface initially, but it has to be there. It's kind of a big deal.

This.

Gotta catch em all. Its interesting that he brought up the Zaishen Menagerie type system possibly being saved for when/if they introduce mounts.

I just gotta say, thank you for asking unique questions.

Nice interview! Although I think you could have skipped some questions that it was obvious they wouldn't give any more info about (when is beta, when will the last book release, is there gonna be a kill streak bonus in wvw).

Colin is the man for interviews it seems :)

Thank you for the interview, too bad that guild wars is still in alpha so most of the questions couldn't be answered.

As you know, we are making changes to rangers and specifically the way ranger pets work. I think you will like what we are doing in this regard. More details of course "when they're ready".

Even though I'm not personally that interested in rangers, I find it really heartening the way you guys read and sometimes even post on these forums. I think it goes a long way towards maintaining our confidence that the game is going to be done right. Props and thanks!

being a ranger fan for so long through every mmo I ever played imust say I'm very excited!!!!

Btw actual Devs answering our questions in forums is just really really awesome, they could have easily dismissed our opinions and just put a system down and said "deal with it" but instead they are actually taking our feedback and doing something with it. I think that's honestly great, I'm just so stoked at the changes that will come.

Thanks for making this the game I think about 24/7

SL.

Well... in Vigil Ac atleast, they're really hard threads to miss... (the ones griping about rangers). ....Kinda wish the Live Team would make some ranger changes in the same time frame. (Assuming it doesn't completely ruin my Flourish turret warrior which is an anathema to the entire concept of 'ranger' I guess).

The important thing is: I think we made the point that the bland and counterintuitive melee pets and our lack of positioning control over them, made them seem like an encumbrance, more than a real "partner" that you coordinate time-sensitive attack strategies with. I'm sure the changes they get will atleast open up a wider variety of ways to use those pets.

Good questions, I always feel sorry for poor ol' Nick O'Hanson though. Those trade shows must be a heck of a lot of work, having to smile and answer questions all day, especially when most of the questions are the same ones over and over again. Then you go back to work and you've still got your day job to do. He's sure good at it though. Respect Colin! :D

Ah... the infamous 'when it's ready' phrase strikes again.

Can't wait to see what changes you guys have made to the Rangers and their pets.

Another interview, another batch of "we arent ready to discuss that" and "we havent decided on what we wanna do with that" ect ect... Funny i go from excited about the possibility of a closed BETA in November to bitter dissapointment bout the possbility of not actually seeing the game till 2013 (overkill perhaps, but at this point, who knows...).

Hey, I'm the tall guy that was doing the interview.
I have heard people say that the audio wasn't clear enough occasionally. I am willing to post the answers to the questions you couldn't quite hear if you so desire.
Thanks again for those that submitted questions.

Given what Colin said in the interview, this doesn't entirely put me at ease yet. I definitely hope that will include a system like GW1's Zaishen Menagerie, to give you full access to all the pets that you trained. It just doesn't make sense to make pets a core mechanic of the ranger, and then when you want to add a new one to your standard set of 3, the one you leave out suddenly forgets everything he was taught, and has to be retamed and retrained if you decide to reactivate him at a later time. That's like giving an elementalist only access to 2 of the 4 attunements, and each time he wants to switch to one of the other 2, he has to completely relearn all the assiociated weapon skills (in the process forgetting the ones from the attunement he replaced). We already had the menagerie in GW1, where pets weren't even that important for a ranger, I really hope we will not have to buy an expansion or dlc pack to get this part of the ranger's core mechanic to work in GW2?

I still don't get why there should be a level req for specific weapons. Please explain.
Nice interview though.
