Luna Atra’s team interviewed Arena Net designers Ben Miller (Game Designer), Daniel Dociu (Art Director) and Jeff Grubb (continuity and Lore Designer).

http://gw2.luna-atra...ew_Anet_PGW/#vo

Quote

Luna Atra : What happened to the Dwarves and bloodstones ?

Ben Miller :The dwarves at the end of Eye of the North took on their stone forms and have been fighting Primordius ever since. That’s still an ongoing struggle. There is one dwarf that you do run across by then.[NdlR : This dwarf was already reported in OnlineWeltens interview in 2009 ]
The bloodstones, specifically the one in Maguuma Jungle still exists.

Stéphane Lo Presti : It exists but I’m not exactly sure what’s happening to it.

To clarify what I was trying to express, is that none of the 5 major (playable) races uses slaves on a great scale. He told about pirates raiding the shores and taking people into slavery though. This would explain the above-water slave pens.

I must add that I didn't follow the upcoming news of GW2 from the begining. I'm trying to catch up, but it, with being french, makes it harder for me to really get the meanings of things right.

The first part of the interview (Ben Miller & Daniel Dociu) was recorded in a more quiet area of the PGW, so I wrote down the exact words.

Luna Atra : We know that the Mursaats and the Seers still exist in Tyria. Will they come back in GW2 ?

Ben Miller : So… One of the cool things about GW2 is that it does carry out the story we started within GW1. So you’ll just have to wait and see.

Everyone loves closure, so glad there going to pick up on all the stories they started back in Prophecies.

I'll take that as a yes.:p

They talk a lot about soup in this interview. Maybe they're hungry? It made me smile. :D

Yeah, though it has been pretty much given that Mursaat will return (Lazarus swearing vengeance on generations to follow). As another example, Linsey Murdock still has a post somewhere on GW2Wiki in which she says that the they [ArenaNet] have pretty cool plans with the mursaat.

Edit: Here it is. http://wiki.guildwar...ura_and_Mursaat

I apologize for the delay in my answering these questions. It's been hard getting a concrete answer to these questions because we are still trying to figure out what we want to do with these guys moving forward. After much discussion we have some really cool plans for the Mursaat but unfortunately I was told to tell you guys that you'll have to wait until GW2 to find them (and the answers to these questions) out. I think I can say pretty confidently that the Enchanted are not related to the Mursaat. I'll keep poking people and see if there is anything I can tell you guys but it'll probably be a while before I can. I wish I had better news, but I'll keep working on it. =/

Thank you for the interview. :)

Hats off to the artists designing the GW2 armors - especially for being so creative under such strict guidelines. Also, wouldn't it be nice to sneak in on some of these ArenaNet business meetings: "On today's agenda ... naming golems!" :D

If there is any race that I am dying to play and would want for an expansion it's the Mursaat! That would fill my soul with delight!
Screw those stupid turkeys. Mursaat 4 lyfe.

As Luna Atra translator present during the interview, it was realy made clear both by Ben Miller and Stephane Lo Presti, then Jeff Grubb later (we met him at the NCSoft booth) that nothing assures us that the Mursaat will play an active part in the story of GW2.

That beeing said, you're free to understand what suits you from these words.
I guess we'll definitly hear from Mursaats one way or another, but not prety sure we'll meet living ones (which would obviously be dead by the time we leave the area ;)).

Edit : and thanks for all positive comments :)

Tha again is what I understood from a very noisy environment, and it is only true towards technology. Asura mostly develop magic devices, and in that I believe they're more creative than humans.

Asura are very logical, there thoughts make more sense, but that also means they would disregard some ideas that appear stupid and crazy. Humans pick from a larger pool of ideas, and even tho many are probably not usable, that does make them more creative overall. Typically human really.

Human engineers tend to be inventors. Humans have the most creative mind of all races.

Arenanet, you have made my day.

Finally something positive around humans and most of al an aproval to make engineer humans without breaking the seal of style.

No more meh answers like "the charr and asura are actually quite hi-tech" when asked about how much the different races contribute with technology, i mean it isn't as if we missed the part with the tanks and golems...

Was fearing that humans where stylewise restricted to dark ages tech and a primitive mind filled with superstitions.

I can breathe out now. :D

I was under the impression that the asura do lots of stupid and crazy things for very logical and ingenious reasons =]

I know what you mean about the superstitious mind bit, all i had in mind about humans was they were religious, conservative and living in a diverse but unequal society.

Apart from that, no race is specifically into slavery anymore.

Err, that is an extraordinarily weird thing to say, considering:

Quote

For centuries, tales have been told of pillared cities rising above the water far out at sea. [...] These “pillared cities” are slave pens, built to hold land-dwellers alive above the waves until they are required for sacrifice. [...] Living on scraps of fish thrown to them by their captors, they eke out a pathetic existence while always watching for a sail on the horizon—praying, begging, and screaming for someone to rescue them before the krait return.

Or did he just mean the five races?

Most likely I'm guessing Jeff forgot about the Krait when answering the question. Their piece was written by Ree, and they are more her balliwick. Or he was making the point that it is slightly more nuanced these days. The krait are bad news for a lot of reasons, one of them being the practice of slavery. The Stone Summit was, from what I understand, portrayed as bad mostly because they were slavers.

I think by 'no race is specifically into slavery anymore' he means that there arent any slave races remaining, as he was referring to the dredge beforehand, and they were largely enslaved. The krait do lock people up, but they don't do it to a specific race and i don't think they really make them perform labour as such, so you could argue that they're more captives than slaves.

Yes, but not for stupid and crazy reasons, while humans do, and that sometimes gives humans innovations Asura wouldn't get to.

Ahh, okay. That explains it.

Nah, the above-the-water slave pens belong to a minor race called the krait, not the pirates. As others noted above, though, they're more captives than slaves, and I agree.

Still, thanks for the interesting interview.
