New blog post, concept art.

Quote

One of the things I love most about my job is hunting for cool art in the vast digital landscape of our network. I can pull from a museum’s worth of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 concept art for our blog, web sites, newsletters, merchandise, tradeshow material, and for press. During my travels I often stumble upon hidden treasures—little nuggets of awesomeness tucked away in remote directories...

As I understood these pictures were done during work on GWEN, so they rather have no relation to GW2 at all. Just some random pictures, nice, but... that's not real information :(

Not too shabby, but I wish these current blog posts had more substance to them...

Awesome for a Friday update none the less. Eye of the North was the first real departure from GW1's traditional influences and their first real step towards Gw2 so I really don't mind such a technicality

Also, looks like the kind of work I've done in school with Wacom and Painter/Photoshop (their work is vastly better of course). Hmmmm, maybe I should practice up and apply in a year heh heh...

Beautiful. Just Beautiful.

bit surprised we got this as a blog post though... isn't most of the concept art shown elsewhere?

They look very nice.
Maybe we'll see these as paintings in-game. :)

stop whining guys, imo this is better than nothing. the author is also hinting that he posted this more or less on a whim (i realize he probably still needed permission to do so).

These environmental studies have been in heavy rotation on my work PC’s desktop, but I haven’t been able to think of a way to repurpose this collection of incredible imagery.

maybe use them for in-game paintings ? how about an NPC who's a parody of Leonardo da Vinci (just an example, could pick any artist here)? they'd surely need an atelier ...

Not much as far as GW2 goes, but I really like Jaime Jones' art style. And the others as well, I just haven't noticed his before.

These are concept art pieces from when GW:EN was in development, so I highly doubt that it's related to the Elder Dragons. And mostly done as practice/inspiration for environs in GW. I think I see the inklings of some of the Asura zones in there. Lush jungle with fantastic stone formations. Either that or I'm seeing relations I want to see and it's just standard fantasy stuff.

Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum

It's been said hundreds of times before by the fans, but I'm always amazed at how talented Arenanet's art team is. Stunning work.

Quote

“The idea was to paint as many different environments and as many different color palettes as you could,” said concept artist Matthew Barrett. “It was sort of a shotgun approach to getting cool environmental images.”

Very cool exercise. Thanks for giving us more insight into the creative processes that go into making your games.

Urgh...urge to paint rising...haven't picked up my brushes and palette knives in so long, but it's hard not to be inspired looking at this work.

Off topic: Yeah, it would be a dream for me to work there...

The only way I can achieve that (by my studies) is becoming a content writer or community manager, which are (sadly) already covered by awesome professionals u_uU

On topic: Quite incredible images, they all vibrate in my eyes! Cheers to the artists!

As a fan of concept art, especially A.Net's, I found this surprisingly disappointing.

I'm so hoping that I can find the one in the top right corner somewhere in the game. It just seems to be extraordinary to me - don't know why. ;-)

Come on guys, don't embed massive images in your posts. 2000 pixels across is way too big - link to it instead or use a smaller version.
