Yeah, but that does not come into effect when dealing with stationary targets. Somehow my opening salvo in a match surprises the hell out of a centurion pilot by turning his canopy window a shade darker with soot, but a mech that is not moving, while I am stationary as well, is not hit by a perfectly lined up shot.
I will attribute this to the odd fact that, while the Inner Sphere can construct multi-story tall walking tanks powered by fusion reactors, they never bothered to think of installing a proper targeting computer. Hell, the fact that that particular item is often times optional even on clan machines confuses the heck out of me.
As feared, twin ERPPC is troublesome to fire at close range. However, it's fantastic with 15 DHS, and makes for a hilarious harasser and atlas hunter killer (seeing as Atlas's are so dang slow and wide, even an ERPPC at point blank range will hit them). The fact that all the damage is in a single packet is also nice, since I can pop out, fire, and backpeddle with barely any sustained damage from enemy LLas fire, and the profile of the mech is small enough that trying to hit it when I'm moving perpendicularly to them at 121 KPH with a gauss, autocannon, or PPC is almost impossible. XD
Even made an AWS-9M upset. I could hit his broad-side-of-a-barn mech with my ERPPC while he couldn't touch me. And with 15 DHS, I can get off 3-4 alpha strikes back to back even on caustic valley before I need to let it cool down a bit, or fire one weapon all day long!
2 cicada videos from me as well (6 medium lasers):
Quite balanced matches for both sides (not 8:0 like it often is), but then again we didn't play very seriously that day and in 2nd one it could be a premade on other side as well (I'm not sure about that though).
Edit: lol just noticed that we were 6v8 in 2nd video. Add one of us having no sound at all and you get results in form of a lot of deaths.
Oh and did I say yet that I'm loving new msi afterburner 2.3.0 and x264vfw compression?
I gotta say, I'm really diggin the CTF-4X. Yes, it's slower then a 1 legged camel, but, wow. It can take punishment and dish it back in force!
I got one of these suckers expecting to have something only a step above a hunchie in damage output. I ended up building a mech with around 95% of its possible armor coverage, two gauss for slugging it out with bigger mechs, backed up by two mlas and an SSRM2 for close encounters of any kind - small, medium, heavy, or assault. A standard engine means it can weather an insane amount of harm before it fails. Unfortunately, I discovered I would have too little pod space if I went Ferro-Fibrous armor AND Endo-Steel internals, and as I got the most weight saved from Endo, my armor went stock standard. A pair of Double Heat Sinks keeps heat quite manageable, too!
I need to remember I only have twenty shots per gauss (a shared pool of 40), as I'm still a mite too frivolous with it. Also, coming from a Cicada, getting used to the arm reticule will take me a little time, though I've already planted gauss slugs into people's limbs while firing over my shoulder a couple times. It's amazing how quickly someone backs off from you when a single slug makes their leg suddenly lose a ton of armor and lay their internals exposed to the elements. XD
Apologies. Apparently the video starts at 7 seconds in. You can probably skip to 40 seconds before anyone pulls a trigger, however.
With more time under my belt with it, I'm finding it's a ridiculously good mech. I've taken less damage and died in an Atlas than with this thing, and it can very rapidly turn an enemy mech into scrap. I keep hoping my targets have an Extra Light Engine, since it completely shreds side torsos. Last game, I killed two, assisted one other, and survived for a full minute under fire from four enemy mechs including two Awesomes, a Centurion, and a Streakcat (of which the latter only barely escaped destruction by my hands).
Hmm... wish someone had pointed out this is on the Crysis 3 engine looks like crap on my old Dualcore & 6790 and runs even worse.
Guess I won't be good for much else than TAG'ing and LRM'ing. ...bummer.
Hey, good scouts are absolutely needed. I love going in and tagging people for our missile boats. Recently put together a Commando with 3x SSRM and it's a blast to charge in, unload on someone's back, and scoot away. Plus it rips enemy lights apart. XD
New vid, using the CTF-4X as it was intended to be used:
I've been so sucked into MWO, I've not even bothered to play HAWKEN even though the last closed beta is on now. I scrapped my Commando and outfitted a Jenner with 3 medlas and 2 ssrm2, and been having a blast with it. You can pull off some craaaaazy stuff with that little mech!
Right now, the commando seems a bit under-equipped unfortunately. Everything it can do, the Jenner can do better. That said, it's a problem with the current iteration of the matchmaking system. It currently uses 1 light : 1 light, 1 med : 1 med, etc, when matching pilots up in teams. This means any Commando can be faced off against a team with the Jenner. Likewise, anyone who takes a Dragon ends up opening the slot for the enemy to take a Catapult or Cataphract.
They really aught to go with a Battle Value system. I mean, it's practically built in as it is!

Evenings in EST, like 7-11 PM eastern standard. I currently have just been pugging, so no communication equipment yet. Makes things a hell of a lot harder. Nothing but pugs and managing a 0.94 KDR certainly can't be all that bad. Especially considering I end up losing 3 out of every five games I play. XD
And I just failed to record most epic match ever on caustic while in my phract 1X.
My whole team died and I was in my phract vs 2 centurions and catapult. 1st centurion went down quickly as it was already damaged a lot. 1 shot from dual ppc. Problems began when other centurion started capping base, and I was near theirs with lrm/srm6 cat guarding theirs on one of hills. No gauss rounds left and high distance for ppc, and armor stripped off already. Cat was fully armored too. So I started charging back to base through 7 line while dodging missiles behind hills. Team started chatting that we lost and all. At around 700 meters I could see centurion in our base, and bar was almost at the end. I shot ppc and I was like wth when that centurion ran off cap point. After 3 dual ppc salvos he went down, barely adding to mine dmg with his med lasers. 4 minutes left, me with orange internals on few parts of mech vs 2x srm6/ 2x lrm15 catapult. I setup on hill near calderra and wait for him to come over to me, he manages to get me from back and damages further with srms. Almost red torso by that point. After 1 minute I was red on torso, but managed to take off his armor already. Next 3 minutes looked rather hilarious. Shoot, turn so he shots my side, turn and shoot rinse repeat while keeping at ~150m distance so srms are less effective and I'm not in lrm range. 20s left and he starts running with red torso, ts holds breath. At ~3s left I managed to catch him in the open (didn't really see exact time, was focused on firing) and made last shot, and cored him ending the game.
I just tried to take a screenshot of my last match and it wouldn't take it. Q_Q
5 kills 1 assist that game, on river city. They had a streakcat covering an LRM cat, getting covered by an AC spamaphract. We had a hunchback on our base, a K2 hiding somewhere (later popped out) and myself in my twin gauss, 1 SSRM2, 2 medlas Cataphract. I forced the enemy cataphract to close, out from under his LRM boat's umbrella, and got a (semi) lucky c*ckpit hit with my gauss. The Streakcat moved up hoping to finish me, but an SSRM and medium laser salvo ripped what was left of his center torso out just in time for my gauss to give it a new orifice The LRM boat popped out just when we were going to move to cap, hoping to finish me, as I had no center torso armor left. He didn't either, and my aim was true.
This was after pulverizing two cicadas with gauss fire, mind you. I'm getting better at hitting those little buggers with those things! Just clipping them with those two big gauss rifles is enough to rip a leg off or shatter their side torso into dust!
Also went ahead and checked my KDR. My stats have improved a ton, even if my win rate is still negative.
I am incredibly impressed with their customer support response. I have taken to recording footage of farmers and bots lately and submitting them to support. I'm impressed because they respond within 12 hours and actually type out a frank and honest response. Plus, it is so hard to argue against video footage that it makes it an open and shut ban case for them.
What's especially nice is their game manager told me they're working on a new system of rewards so that, while they cannot ip ban due to potentially cutting out entire universities or small towns, the new system will only reward players for actually participating in the game. I figure the worst this can do is force bot makers to create AI mechs for us, which is still better then the current status quo.
I tried some MW Online after seeing this thread and I must say...
My Sennheiser headphones connected to the amp on an Auzentech sound card must be too shitty for MW online, because every time the mech take a step the sound crackles. Cant stand it, unfortunetly.
I did play through 5 or 6 rounds, but it is far less fun than World of Tanks so in the end it was rather meh anyway.
The new kvitching Betty is messing with the audio. It probably isn't your card. This game IS beta however. That said the current new user experience is harsh and not terribly enjoyable. You really do need to buy your first mech and mess around with the mech lab before you can really have fun. Once you get your customized mech and learn that teamwork is the ONLY way to play this game successfully you start having fun. If, that is, you have the patience to wait for the enemy to make mistakes and exploit weaknesses in a coordinated function.
Case in point I had a dragon on my team yesterday. We started the game one man down due to disconnect so a defensive approach was the most likely for victory. This idiot wasn't gonna wait so he charged right at them. Then spent the rest of the game acting all proud of pushing alone and said he probably did more damage then the rest if us.
Final score, we won because the remaining six of us bunkered down and supported one another, and while everyone on my team did in excess of 300 damage, with the 600 range easily held by myself and one of my lance mates, Mr McSuicide had a paltry 25 damage to his name. Pathetic.
More like p2saveyouadisproportionateamountoftime. Not p2w as the mechs you buy you can earn the money for outside of hero mechs which are not statistically better. If anything the one major advantage of putting down money is converting mech XP to general XP, which I feel is something they need to work on. You can buy a mech but you cannot buy the non-stock weapons with cash, and even if you could it doesn't mean you can pilot the thing effectively.
I have seen copy cat gauss catapults that I wrecked far more often then well piloted gauss cats that posed real threats. Mech lab gives you tools, but doesn't tell you how to use them or improves your aim, situational awareness, or (lack of) common sense.
Also won't save you from a poor team or a well coordinated enemy team.
That said, I have five or six people I regularly group with on coms. The new ECM patch is clearly OP as it currently stands and I'm sure it will have its maximum detection range increased. I say this as someone who went 24-1 wins-losses last night using essentially the same tactic: ECM raven rushing. I love how ECM works, I love the ECM vs ECCM interplay. However not being able to detect a mech 400 meters out in plain sight is rediculous. 350 or 400 meters really aught to be the max detection range on 'cloaked' units.
So I do hate to double post but perhaps one of you has an idea. I've been tinkering with the ECM capable cicada and just cannot find a load out I can get comfortable with. The speeds in which it moves plays havok with the current net code of firing projectiles but a large laser setup feels ineffectual. I tried 4 medlas, 4 medpulse, 3 medlas and an LB10X, 2 medlas and an AC10, twin PPC, four medlas and an AC5....
No matter what, though, I feel under gunned. Cannot seem to push its firepower over 25 at all, even though it should be in the 30-35 range, and the tonnage used up by the ECM makes even getting above 20 hard as can be. I could try a smaller engine but then I'm a slower priority target with the thing since anything with ECM might as well have a shoot me sign on it. :/
Next patch on the 18th will make it even more playable for lower end systems. After that, they are going to work on particle and map optimizations. As long as that blasted 4 FPS bug is solved, I will be ecstatic.
In other news, 6 kills in one game! Recorded!
If any of you want, I have a C3 server that is up 24/7, regardless if I am on or not. It has no password, and it was set up specifically for MWO. The server name is "Command Sat 003," and has several sub channels, so that multiple parties can be playing at the same time.
It is free, and the audio quality is insanely good. Also it uses almost no resources to run, so your game play will not be hit by it at all.
I have people logging in from all over the world. Italy, Canada, Belgium, the West Coast, North Eastern and South Eastern US, you name it. It is not affiliated with any player organization. Just people who want to play together, work together, and win together. Unofficially.
Cannot wait, personally. Going to turn a stalker into either a 6erll or 6erppc turret and, eventually, get the hero dragon with the torso mounted ballistic slot.
I got an STK-3F, but so far the most comfortable configuration of it for me has been 6x Large Lasers. Yes, I did try 6xERLLas and 6xERPPC to hilarious effect. However, with 20 DHS, a 300 Standard Engine, and the 6 larges, you can shoot two and a half LLas and be heat neutral, or four back to back to back, and alpha with all six three times before shutdown. Opening with an alpha or two, then poking them with two lasers until you cool down enough to shoot four, and alternate that way is a great way to keep the pressure on with it.
I will be experimenting with 4x LRM10, 4 MedLas, 2 ERPPC later, and may change that to 2 LLas instead with slightly beefier LRMs if I can fit them.
If you update an old thread about mechs, is it called Thread Mechromancy?
A lot has happened in the game in the past couple months:
The Dragon bothers Flame and Fang
The Pretty Baby
The Trebuchet battlemech
The brand spankin' new HUGE map called Alpine Peaks
The introduction of an Elo system (that kinda works, actually!)
The ability to give yourself a custom camoscheme
The Spider battlemech
Heat changes to benefit PPC, ERPPC, and Large Pulse Lasers, along with EMP for the PPC and ERPPC
The Cadet Bonus Initiative was enabled
Bitchin' Betty was given her voice back
This month, another HUGE map, Desert, will be released, the Training Grounds are set to be released, and the Jagermech is set to be released, as well as the new Cicada X-5 hero mech. Following that, work on the Canyon map, Asteroid Map, and Volcano map, all of which are supposed to be huge, too, are set to go in, as well as the introduction of 12v12 matches.
You might wonder how big the new maps are. Wonder no more, here is some of my footage of Alpine Peaks using the Spider.
