I have already registered my name in case friends make it look fun to me in the future. I don't plan on playing it really but you never know.

If people are wondering why I don't care I played Mech Warrior when it was starting out and I never liked the game at all. I didn't understand it at the time and it has just sunk in that way with me.

Is this game going to have lots of servers like a WoW or are you hoping for a single persistent server world like EVE Online?

[MATT C] Each game spawns its own dedicated server, these are not persistent like WoW, as mentioned that would take us into MMO territory. There is persistent game world information, i.e. match results are communicated to affect the balance of power in the Inner Sphere, who owns what planet etc. but there is no true persistent world, more of a persistent meta-game.

So its going to be a match-based game just like TF2 or DotA? Pretty much expected. Curious if it is just going to be any additional features like 'hubs' in GW1 or Hellgate and player crafting. It'd be kinda nice if they implemented some sort of heavily player-driven economy. Capture factories, starports, HPG stations and the like. Certainly fits in with the 'persistant metagame' mentioned.

Quite excited to play this game. Though the community currently seems to be full of tabletop gamers and old clans.

A long time ago, I played a little of another mech game and enjoyed myself despite not having the foggiest idea of what I was doing, so...this has my attention. I just hope it's at least semi-newb-friendly, because I still probably won't have the foggiest idea of what to do. ;)

That's one nice thing about the BT and MW community: it's nice. You want help? Ask. Advice? Ask. Tips? Ask. They will more often then not help. The mindset is that we love challenging fights. If we help someone improve, we help ourselves. The tough fights are what we live for. :D

Also, new blog post says: Cry3 Engine! Fantastic engine, even if Crysis 2 was a let down. It's extremely well optimized and should make near photo realistic scenes.

If I recall the last Mechwarrior game I played was Mechwarrior 2 ... damn good game. Think I briefly trialled a later sequel but it was just not the same, there was something uniquely cool about the gameplay in Mechwarrior 2. :)

The mecha age is rising again! My dad is going to get a kick out of it when I mention this to him. Especially when he's resorted to playing War Commander on FB and is trying to get me to play GURPS.

What you're probably thinking of is that volume (and therefore mass, if you keep the density the same) scales as the cube of the scaling factor. This is usually paired with the fact that area (cross-sectional, surface, etc) scales as the square of the scaling factor and that muscle power scales with the cross-sectional area of the muscle. Therefore, if you scaled a person up by 2, they'd have 8 times the mass but only 4 times the muscle power (making them relatively quite weak) and 4 times the surface area (giving them issues with getting rid of body heat). Basically, this is why giants that are just really big humans don't work.

This applies to mechs in that simply scaling up a small design poses a lot of problems, so if you were really trying to engineer them, you wouldn't do it that way.

It's funny that you mention your dad as they've said "This isn't your father's Mechwarrior!" a few times, not that it's a real slogan.

Hahaha! That's actually pretty funny! Yeah, I remember him playing Steel Battalion with that huge set up. 2 joysticks, peddles, and a 40 button console in front of him. Just to add effect he'd wear a headset and sunglasses with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. I come from a long line of nerds.

Those were ment to be for the Clans in general, actually, but myeah.  Personally hate what happened to the Jade Falcons.  The leader became way too ruthless for my tastes. -_-

Then again, I've always been a fan of the Wardens, anyways. :D

House Kurita here :D

Also Clan Nova Cat, but they became practically part of the Combine after the Clan War anyway.

I've never really understood why people hated the Jade Falcons. On the contrary, it was always Smoke Jaguar that had that special place for me. Someting about them just annoys me for some reason.

They are Crusaders. That's more than enough reason to hate them.

It sounds like its going to be a TF2, BF3, LoL, etc style MOBA with battles determining control of territories as a metagame.  I believe Global Agenda has a similar world conquest metagame as part of its endgame.   End of Nations also sounds like about the same thing.  World of Tanks has talked about adding such a metagame once they get World of Battleships and World of Planes up and running.  PLanetfall also?  Sounds like we might get alot of this sort of game over the next few years.

Also another mech game called Hawken looks very similar to Mechwarrior.

Oh sweet, Leyana!  Not too many fellow Nova Cat fans out there.  I love how freakishly unique they are among the Clans.  Least anal retentive anyways.  Their whole rivalry genesis thing is a fun spin on Romeo and Juliet too.

TL;DR version:

Second Khan of Nova Cats was attracted to the SaKhan of Clan Smoke Jaguar who was equally attracted to her.  She had a vision where she saw that to pursue the affection would destroy her clan, so she ended romantic relations with the Jaguar SaKhan.  He had a fit, killed one of the Nova Cat totem animals (Dagda Feline) and stuffed it in an Iron Womb as a message.

Blood feud from there on out.

It is much faster paced than any Mechwarrior game from what I've seen so far, making it more of a shooter than sim imo.
And it is one of the reasons why I don`t look so much forward to playing it.

Hawken's trailers have looked alright but the egregious misuse of Cyrillic in the logo is a hard impression to overcome.

So the fourth mech confirmed is the DRG-1N.  I gotta say, this is the first redesign I'm not terribly fond of.  The spacing of the arms seems a smidge too wide.  Like that extra chunk of torso between the arms and, ya know, TORSO, was thrown in there for no good reason.

In semi-unrelated note:  Been using the free release of MW4: Mercs to get back into my old habits with piloting a mech.  Plopped my butt down in a stock mech faux Trial of Position and killed three machines, each 5 tonnes lighter, but in a map that heavily favored them, then nearly disabled a fourth before falling.  If I remember my lore correctly, that would put me at about Star Captain rank.

More news on MWO: http://mwomercs.com/...mmunity-warfare. And because this thread needs more love.

It looks like they're aiming for an ambitious metagame going on in MWO. Constantly changing borders, player controlled planets... it looks like DUST314 without the EVE component and with 'Mechs.

Must start to plan my time between GW2 and this. :D

Check out MechWarrior Living Legends. Its a full mod of Crysis Wars and looks and plays amazing! And its a free download. All you need is Crysis Wars (the Mulit-player part), download the auto-install and your good to go. Mechs, Battle Armor (Elementals) tanks, hover craft, ect.

The guys who did this are great and loved MW alot. I played MW4 back on MSN Gaming Zone..lol..for about 10 yrs. Merc unit named the KellHounds. Was StarFyre_GUNS back then ;)

Some of the guys who did MWLL are on the MWO project, too, fyi.  I've been practicing my piloting skills on mech4, but some of the things Mektek had to do to keep the game running makes it a pain in the but to host games and such.

Heck yeah!

I'm hoping they stay true to the sphere factions. ALSO I'm hoping we can opt to be a Tank Driver or Assault Flight Craft Pilot and not just Mechs.
EDIT No Tanks, just Mech's :-(

Don't get me wrong I loved playing Battle Tech as a kid, and Mechwarrior as an adult on the PC. I'd just like to see some options open for players.
EDIT No getting out of Mechs, No Ground to Mech combat, No PvE experience.

Also please allow for custom camouflage or custom Merc Camouflage.
EDIT Yes and in

Anyone know if OMNI Mechs will be in?
3049 is the beginning of the Clan Invasions. So looks like the possibility of OMNI Mechs will make an appearance of some kind.

@Tzu:
The proposed timeline was 15 years before the clans. But from the IS News on the site it appears they decided to go with the clan invasion after all? The inclusion of 'Core Worlds' that are story based and developer controlled gets me thinking. If they are really interested in following the core canon, that means there'll be battles that you have to lose?

Also, this might be a bit too far into the future but, WarShip and DropShip combat!

3049 is the cusp of clan invasions, and 3049 is when the game will release.  That said, yes clan machines will make an appearance eventually, and I cannot wait, but even as a clan player, I see the potential for massive balance issues when they come.  Their machines are just plain superior to IS designs of the time period.  No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

They said it's only mech combat - NOW.  Which implies they're eventually going to include combined arms.  I might take a whirl at an Aerospace fighter.  I do love me a Sabutai class ASF. :3
