I've played every generation extensively and I am now in the process of beating the 3rd and 4th generations for the fifty thousandth time. I can't seem to get enough of the stinkin' games from childhood till now  Even the wave of boredom that has washed over every other game I own in the shadow of the looming monster we know as Guild Wars 2 hasn't touched this franchise for me.

I'm a 20 year old male, in college studying music, and I requested Pokemon White for Christmas.

Please tell me I'm not the only Poke-dork out there with this insatiable addiction to every Pokemon handheld game in existence :(

I somewhat sympathize with you, as I too have found myself replaying Pokemon games multiple times, however perhaps not as extreme. Each time I try to change up my team or the way I go about playing, like a Platinum playthrough where I only took Fighting type or /Fighting type Pokemon. Helps keep things fresh, otherwise it does get a bit boring.

I actually got back into Pokemon around my senior year of high school.  Since then I've been more a fan than I ever was as a kid.  I can't say I play them obsessively, but I do have hundreds of hours each on Platinum, SoulSilver, and White.  I have definitely considered going back and starting my games over but, I kinda grow attached to the team I already have (I know that sounds ridiculous), and don't really want to bother.

There's too many other awesome games out there for me to play any one franchise for such an extended period of time though.  But I get you, the games can be very addictive, and you're certainly not the only one.

Nothing to be ashamed of, I've seen 30 year old men play Minecraft.

Besides, Pokemon is awesome, I'm 21, in college and I'm still perfecting my Triple Battle team.

P.S. My Triple battle team is unstoppable, just sayin'.

This actually brought up an excellent addition Nintendo could finally make to the Pokemon franchise;

Let us make more than one save file per cartridge!

It's the same reason I'm an altaholic in MMOs; I really enjoy building things up from scratch and seeing it develop over time, but I also really enjoy having one character/save file/world I can go back to and keep for an extended period of time, and have it feel like "home" to me.

I recently started over in my favorite generation (III) and I had a few ideas that I wanted to go back and test once I beat the Elite Four again, but along the way I ran into a shiny Zigzagoon and now I'm not sure what to do with it, because that was so much cooler than any Legendary/rare Pokemon I had ever encountered :p I was thinking of just sending it to Diamond's Pal Park and then from there sending it to my copy of White once I get it.

Wow, talk about thinking out loud. Now you see firsthand what effect Pokemon has on me :o

I am hoping that Pokemon Grey, you know the 3rd they release with every generation is a 3DS game.

I would love to play Pokemon in 3D. I think it would be awesome.

Pokemon are the best single players games ever. Unlimited replayability and the formula, which never gets old. No matter if I play Crystal for 200th time, I'll always enjoy it.

Me and most of my friends used to play Red/Blue when we were around 10 and we still enjoy the games, squeeing over each new improvement (even though I kind of skipped 3rd gen because I didn't want to buy a GBA). It's fun, it has tactical elements... I don't see why Pokemon should be any less of a valid choice of game than most other things on the market to date. ^^

Yeah, I admit that I've played them and my friend got me back into them when I was 17. I don't really play them now, though. I have White, and I played it a bit, but when you have consoles and a PC, you just don't play handheld consoles much. I find they're only good for travelling on planes, really.

I was really into pokemon a while back, playing online/simulators all the time (look up Pokemon Online) but I gave up because the game never gets updates (it's obvious because it's a game but it's a shame for such an active game) and the metagame always stays the same.
My only choice was either stop playing or going to communities with different rule sets.

Not at all, look at Nuzlocke Challenge, everyone who likes pokemon should try this once. You'll get the real meaning of getting attached to your team when you do the challenge. :o

EDIT: You just earned me 5000000000 more hours of Pokemon playtime. I hope you can sleep at night

There are lots of options and ways you can play these games. Like catching and training pokemon everytime you earn a gym badge or training only one type of pokemon or make it hard and finish the game using a superbad team.

And btw. Pokemon MMO would be the most badass and most profitable game ever. Too bad Nintendo won't go for it.

Since 1995 baby.

I think for me the best years were the G/S/C years, if you were a kid growing up then and you didn't have a GBC with Pokemon... well, you were a pretty unfortunate kid. Picture sums it up.

I moved to Europe during the 4th gen and kind of had to leave it in the dark, but only recently I got a DS and started catching up with the 5th gen. Before that I was pretty much playing R/S/FR/LG (and XD from the GC even) for 8 years on my GBA SP. If you saw my save files on the GBA cartridges then it would speak for itself how much of a no lifer I am.

What they need to do is revamp the fighting system. You've watched the Pokemon shows on TV, make it something like that. Alakazam can only know 4 moves despite the fact it has the brain of a super computer.

Here is what they need to do;

-Add positional Attacks
-Add dodge, block and counter moves
-Add environment in battles
-Simplify and deepen the battle system

I would remove special attacks and physical attacks completely along with their defensive counter parts.
Each Pokemon will have a body chart showing their stats connected to the body part.
The moves power will be based off the body part used (ex. High Jump Kick on Hitmonlee will do more damage compared to Mienshao's, but Mienshao Drain Punch till do more damage compared to Hitmonlees)
Depending on the Pokemon, depends on the number of moves it can learn. Types of moves can be limited as well. (ex. Typhlosion can learn 3 attacks, 1 dodge, 1 status and 1 counter moves, Kingler can learn 2 attacks, 1 status and 1 counter moves, Bronzong can learn 1 attack, 3 statuses and 3 counters moves)
Remove the % chances from moves and abilities completely, burns, freezes, confusion and paralyzation, poison and criticals can be inflicted when certain conditions are met.

Oh my god this list can go on...

I wish I could get back into Pokémon. I loved generation 1, 2 and 3. Then skipped on Pearl and Diamond, but got Platinum later when it came out, and found it to be a huge disappointment. Then I got SoulSilver later, and while it was pretty fun it didn't really manage to get addicted to it. Although part of the reason I never liked Platinum / SoulSilver much was because I didn't have Wi-Fi yet, so couldn't trade and missed out on events. I have Wi-Fi now, so I'll probably give the next gen another try.

At this point you might be better off waiting for the inevitable 3rd version of Black/White.

Working on my Nuzlocke Challenge currently, and I was doing so until late last night. Was in that stage where you don't remember when you fell asleep and conciousness and unconciousness kinda blend together.

So, naturally, I was terrified this morning when I woke up and remembered that my dream was not real; I did not, in fact, lose my two best Pokemon to some hidden super move possessed by Bidoof. *has panic attack*

Yeah sorry, that's what I meant. Either 3rd version of Black/White or the gen that comes after that.
Although I'll also be giving a remake of Ruby/Sapphire a try if they ever decide to go with that. Gen 3's my favourite.=p

Mine too :D And I ran into a shiny Zigzagoon on my most recent playthrough of Sapphire, and I plan on sending him to Diamond, then White when I get it, and hopefully from there he'll have come full circle and there will be a RSE remake in the works for him to come home to, in better graphics and everything :P

OMG.... this is the story of my life. I had no idea so much came back in college Lol.

I remember we were shopping for christmas ornaments and thought we saw some pokeball ornaments... so naturally we all maturely walked over to the rack (aka... college stampede) and grabbed them... only to find they were boring red/white ornaments and not poke balls. :(

I got to grow up with GBC, and it was SO great. I would roleplay like crazy. I would breed rare pokemon and trade them with friends for other rare pokemon, until I slowly created my fortune. :D Ahh... good times... good times...

Gave up on my Nuzlocke challenge on Diamond, but not for difficulty reasons (Still no faints yet, woo! :D ). I just want my later-gen games to be more complete than, say, Fire Red, which is incidentally my game of choice to Nuzlocke it, and correctly this time. In Diamond I had a bit of confusion with the rules, but after messing up a few times, I now know what I'm doing :p Time to Nuzlocke the crap out of Fire Red!

Not to be confused with dreaming of a Pokemon White Christmas? (I'm actually extremely surprised no one has made such a song for YouTube).

In answer to your question, I used to be into Pokemon, starting casually with Pokemon season 1 (the Squirtle episode... that joke about all of the officer Jennies was hilarious!) and then getting into the games with Pokemon Emerald. The last game I touched was Pokemon Diamond, at which point I realized I'm not a fan of the gameplay. It simply started to feel like Dragon Quest 1 with character swap and RPS (rock, paper, scissors) combat elements, but no real complexity beyond that.

But this is probably because I've never gotten into the multiplayer aspect. All these games later I haven't played a single battle against another player.

No no that would only make things unnecessary complicated and stupid.
The battle system is already quite deep, and the competitive battling meta is very stable. Although there is a bit too much focus on offense these days, I miss the defensive R/S/E SKarmBliss days..
We got IV's, EV's, natures, special abilities, hold items, type bonusses ect.
If things like "EV's" and "IV's" don't ring a bell, I suggest refraining to criticise the battling system.

They just need to make an MMO-type game (would make trading and battling simpler) with full on 3d graphics.  Which won't happen because the game is specifically meant for handhelds to allow social interaction between players.  Until we get handhelds that have the power to do such things.

There's definitely nothing wrong with liking the Pokemon games, they're a great little series with a lot of depth and fun to them (if you're still watching the anime, you might want to take a hard look at your life though).

I've found myself enjoying the games less and less.  Despite Black & White being really good games, I burnt out on them faster than any of the others.  That definitely has nothing to do with the Pokemon designs, as some will claim, but just the fact all the games are too damn similar.  In my opinion, they need to can the multiple versions, remakes and spin off games and just do something a bit more fresh.  There are certain traditions that maybe need to stay in place, but over 15 years on, there's no excuse for the games still being exactly the same.

I disagree with the idea of making it an MMO though.  I don't see how the mechanics, especially battling would work persistently with other players, it seems like everything would be too slow and too open to griefing.  The games currently offer an online area where you can meet up to trade, chat and battle, and that seems like more than enough.

I managed to breed myself a Shiny Aron (by mistake, got genders mixed) when trying to get a Cubone.

I turned it into a FEAR Aron, with the lovely help of Tyranitars Sand Stream, Aron can be a !@#$ cheater.

If you want shinies, I highly suggest breeding with Pokemon from different countries, it's ridiculously easy that way.

Anyone want a shiny Charmeleon? I need a Surskit or Wooper for breeding with Mantine for it to learn Haze.
Sadly, no one on WiFi trade can figure I want one of those and I can only find them in Pokemon White.
