I believe it was mentioned earlier in this thread, but lots of people missed it:

You know, I saw this right before I had to dash on errands, which made the process a mentally-hectic, gleeful process. It almost seems surreal that the game we've all been waiting for over the years is finally peeking its head over the horizon. I've been doing so much inane giggling over the past few hours, rereading that news announcement like a child on Christmas. This really is the best news we've had in ages, and I'm just so excited! My heart is pining for a May or June release... though a closer date is my birthday in March... my, wouldn't it be such a delightful present for some of us to get into the beta then?

Hooray! I get to play it for the last few months before I have to start studying or exams... s'gonna be hard with this temptation though i'm SO glad it's not at the end of the year.
I'm happier than a priest in a playpen!

Yeah, I think TotalBiscuit, Rubi

Those two are the only ones I'd want to see covering GW2 beta, but if TB for some reason can't find the time, I'd give WoodenPotatoes some press credentials to fill in for him. :p

We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to  hold progressively larger events. In February we’ll invite select press  to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll  aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of  you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to  the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.

Some of you might be jumping the gun a little.Closed Beta is not over, Open Beta is not announced for March or April only that many of us will get a chance to participate in BETA. Those so called open spots may be as few as 20 openings we simply don't know. I'm not getting my hopes up for something so vague. Also releasing later this year doesn't by any means, say a release in June or July. :zip:

crap... looks like we really do have to wait til summer :\

March and April are spring aren't they?

They've said for years that the open beta will be VERY close to release, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a May or June release.

Hell they may even push out a late April release for the anniversary of prophecies or at least an end of beta event.

Nah, Gamescom 2009 thread was the fastest growing topic in history of this forum. I still remember first post packed in all the videos, screens, articles and any other related stuff. Made my browser freezing for a moment. xd

Except for the spotlight bit, I think that's a pretty good description of ArenaNet. And they seem to have done their research well as it looks like they've avoided the pitfall of the last sentence.

Heh, almost tempts one to believe in astrology. ;)

My division co-leader and I over at All Out Assault are quite happy to finally have a narrowed down timeline. Now we can get on with advertising and division structuring, all whilst awaiting the all important nitty gritty about how we can structure our guild and what sort of PvP/PvE experiences we can latch onto as a group.

Thanks for the hard work Anet! looking forward to it.

That, above all else for the moment, is something that I'd love to know. I really hope ArenaNet will lift the NDA with this ... or at the very least, have a more relaxed agreement in place.

Wow! Words can't describe what I was feeling after reading this. I wanted jump up and shout while pumping my fist in the air. It has been a loooooonng 5 years. It has sucked knowing that you will pretty much never enjoy any game you play for very long. Whether its was WoW, Rift, Skyrim or MW3, no game has taken my mind off of GW2.

Anet, thank you for your commitment to excellence and innovation. I too look forward to playing the game with you. It's great to see that the game is finally "ready."

Happy Year of The Dragon. Happy Year of Guild Wars 2!  =)

Yes we do - though we play in the black Commando shirts now.

Ok, to clarify a couple of points:

We purposely didn’t use the term “Open Beta”, we mentioned Beta Events. To some people Open Beta means unlimited access to the game and everybody on the interwebs can play it. This is not what we will do.

We will do Beta Weekend Events. Those of you who played Guild Wars might already be familiar with the concept. It means that many of you (like the blogpost says) will get a chance to participate in specific Events, but access won’t be unlimited – there will be some kind of selection criteria  and the beta period will usually start on a Friday and end on the following Sunday.

I hope this helps. :)

Thanks for clarifying Martin, you guys are the best!
I noticed the fact that you didn't use the term OB and guessed that would be the reason, but most importantly the game is almost done!
I bet the Anet staff are even more excited than we are, although it's hard to imagine anyone more excited than me right now :P

Casey Schreiner of G4's MMO Report is pretty awesome! He's become a huge fan over the last year or two. I look forward to seeing more of his coverage!

And just like that all hype build up from this dies for me.

I already knew TB’s coverage would be the only thing to hold me over until I got to play, seeing as how text blogs don’t have the same effect and Guildcast is untrustworthy when it comes to relaying information. But now knowing that they will do weekend betas basically kills it for me. Not only will I likely not get in, but it tends to take me, at times, a full weekend just to download and install the clients for such games. (I missed the first SW:TOR beta event I was invited into for exactly that reason)

Just lovely, like being given a gift only to be kicked in the stomach and have it stolen before you got to open it.
