This is a thread where you can recommend games you found enjoyable, and even give reviews, if you feel so inclined. As of now, this thread is not limited to just games that people like, so if you want to post about games you don't recommend, or give a bad review, feel free.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Rules and Recommendations:

Things to include in post:
-Full Name of Game
-Genre(s)
-System(s)
-Opinion
(whether it was good or not, not needed if review or score is given)
-Review/Comments(Optional)
-Score(Optional)

If you do not include the first four, your post may not be added to the OP.

Just saying you recommend a game is fine; however, if you have extra details to share, please do. If you like the game so much, I'm sure you can come up with something to say about it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: The old thread, http://www.guildwars...read-t1064.html , was not updated, so I will be taking over with this thread. I will eventually compile all the posts from that thread into this thread. For now, feel free to post any recommendation/reviews, and I will update the OP with the recent posts before I add all the old posts. For mine, and maybe your convenience, I'm going to say what post I'm up to in the old thread, as I soldier through it.

Update:

Since I decided it would be best for this thread to have scores and recommendations, and this thread, http://www.guildwars...ing-t10528.html, already exists for ratings, I'm going to compile those posts into this thread as well. Same with the other thread, the posts in the current thread will be added before anything else. I'm going to list what post I'm on in the rating thread, for convenience.

I'm going to also list what post I'm up to in this thread, just so I can keep track.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Key:
[+] = Recommend
[-] = Does not recommend
[#] = Will be the score the person gave, if they give one

These markers will lead to the post, so you can get more details, if they exist.

Note: For now I have decided to list the most recent additions first, and will use a line to separate the old posts from the new ones, until I get it all up to date.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution [8/10] -- Great
Bastion [9/10] -- Downright amazing
SW:ToR [5/10] Yes, I know I'll catch flak for this, but if you enjoyed the KoTOR 1/2 this game is okay.

-Heavy Rain
-Action/Thriller
-PS3
-Absolutely fantastic and recommended for anyone who loves a great story!
-This is not a game. This is an interactive movie. The game starts out incredibly light and seems as if it could pass as a children's game, with lots of greenery and fun things to do around the house. However, the story moves onto a mall and drastically changes into a dark and dismal tale of a man who has lost almost everything... and then loses something that pushes him over the edge. His son is kidnapped by the origami killer, and it's up to him alone to rescue him by going through various trials to prove that he is a worthy father.
The game allows you to control 4 characters who are all a key part in solving the mystery of the identity of the Origami Killer. It's not your typical game where you shoot people, free roam and have a health bar. This is literally an interactive movie, and something that needs to be bought alongside a Playstation 3. Absolutely stellar.
-Score - 9.5/10

Skyrim [9.5/10] (PC)

I played it on PC, but its also on PS3 and 360. SKYRIM, now what can I say about skyrim, that honestly hasnt been said before. Well, skyrim is prolly one of the best games I have played in a LONG time. That being said, I still only gave it a 9.5/10, the game would have to be absolutely the most perfect video game to ever come out EVER. Sadly its not, but it is up there. Now let me share with you my experience of skyrim so far. I bought skyrim about 2 weeks after it came out, I knew almost nothing about the game, and really buying it was only because I had heard from so many people that it was a good game. This is unlike me, mainly because I always do ALOT of research about a game before I buy it, and almost never buy single player games, im not just gonna throw $60 away on a game that will last me 20 hours max. Never the less, I bought the game, came home, and installed it on my computer. About an Hour later, I started playing the game, first thing I notice is that the option to change the graphics, is only available before you open the game, and the options were very limiting. Started playing the game, and I was very immersed in the game. Loved the sound effects, especially while wearing headphones. I stayed along the main story for quite a while, until I stumbled apon the Thieves Guild quest by mistake.  I thought this was mandatory, as one of the quest markers was very misleading, and somehow made me believe I had to do this. THANK GOD IT DID, Thieves Guild was one of the most fun things I had done in the game. Not gonna spoil anything. Durring the thieves guild, there were many dungeons that you got do do, many FUN dungeons. So, for the next 20 hours, I devoted skyrim, to finding dungeons, raiding them, and finding more dungeons. Those were alot of fun, each dungeon was unique, with fun bosses, unique loot, beautiful scenery. Some even came with a quest and storyline. After doing many of these, I learned that you can join other "groups" such as the thieves guild. I found a few more much as the Companions and the Dark Brotherhood. Both Alot of fun. Soon after those, I beat the main storyline. After that, I ran around, doing tons of random quests I found, completing more dungeons and ancient ruins. LOVED the dwarven ruins, those are alot of fun for some reason. after doing MANY MANY dungeons, quests, and item finding. Christmas Break ends, and im forced to cut my gaming off until my next break, I dont game durring school, distracts me too much. But by the end of Christmas break, I had over 100 hours of Skyrim, I had completed about 50 dungeons(out of 200), and prolly around 100 quests(out of 450). And I still have MUCH more to do. Now I ask myself, was that worth $60? Hell yea, it was.

Minecraft (PC) - 8/10

This is just an awesome free-roaming game for whoever likes to go around building random things. It's a lot like Terraria, but in 3D (even though the graphics are from the stone age :p) Still, it's fun and worth the download!

Battlefield 3 (PC) - 9.5/10

Call of Duty? Come on, son! We're no longer sitting in Mummy and Daddy's house with an Xbox controller in our hand! This is real warfare! The graphics make it look almost as good as a CGI film, the single-player story isn't too cringe-worthy or confusing, and the multiplayer? 64 players on huge open areas with fully destructible environments? Hell. Yes. It takes a little getting into. I showed the game to a few friends of mine who have played tonnes of FPS games, and they couldn't hit a thing in Battlefield 3... and they died every minute. But they admitted one thing when they saw me playing... they were willing to learn ;)

Amazing art direction, graphics, music is very memorable, animation is top notch and the gameplay is solid. This is the best $15 game I've ever purchased. Doesn't get a 10 because its short.

I'll put up my recommendation from the last thread again :)

Starship Troopers, Terran Ascendancy 7.5/10. It may be old, but it's a ton of fun:)

Developper : Blue Tongue Entertainment

Publisher : Microprose

An old RTS game that was MUCH better than the recent FPS that was made (Starship Troopers).

Spoiler

I'll also throw in Arcanum. 8/10

The ones who played it loved it, the ones who never played it never heard of it:) A great old style Fallout type RPG, with a mix of fantasy and sci-fi. Great gameplay and story with a VERY flexible character progression.

Deus Ex (original). 10/10. Only game, other than Unreal Tournament, who deserves a perfect 10. I don't detail it because only playing it explains who unbelievably AWSOME that game was and still is.

I've been thinking, and I'm not sure if I should compile all the old posts into this thread. In the old thread people just recommended things, and didn't give scores. In this thread, I'm encouraging you guys to give scores, which I think is more productive.

So, it would be weird to have a mix of scores and pluses, when it would be better just to have scores. What do you guys think?

Should I continue with this thread the way it is, or make it scores only?

There is a thread named "Rate the game you are currently playing" that has many ratings... this one should just be about recommendations imo.. If you recommend something then why would you say it's a bad game..? I don't recommend bad games, therefore i see no need for scores here.

Half Life 2 [8/10] -- Excellent, one of the few games with real characters.
Half Life 2 Ep 1 [7/10] Step backward, too short, still 10 times better then most games released today.
Half Life 2 Ep 2 [9/10] Excellent again and somewhat longer, awful (AWFUL!) cliffhanger though.
Portal [10/10] This pretty much sums it up (starting at 3:30)
Portal 2 [9/10] Would be a 6-7, but then I played co-op. Main game is borderline theme park, but the co-op is absurdly, wickedly fun.
Left 4 Dead [5/10] Its a good game, but everything you can do in it can be done in L4D2. Speaking of which...
L4D2 [8/10] Great game for getting a bunch of friends together and kicking major zombie ass.
Team Fortress 2 [9/10] Best FPS currently on the market -- and its free!
Counter Strike: Source [+] Old game, still the best competitive FPS out there to my knowledge.

That makes sense, but I'm wondering what the point of having scores and recommendations is? I'm thinking scores are better in every way, and if that's true, there is no point in having recommendations. If recommendations are better in some situations, then there would be a point in having both. This has nothing to do with if there is already a thread or not. The main difference in this thread, is all the posts are going to be compiled into the OP.

Also, I named the thread reviews/recommendations, so it's not just for recommending games. Telling others a game is bad is just as useful as telling them a game is good.

Sorry if I came off as argumentative. I just want to put what people want here.

So either, only recommendations, both scores and recommendations, or only scores.

I could also compile the scores from the "Rate the game you are currently playing" thread into this one to, to have a one stop area. Just throwing out ideas.

Edit: Actually, I'm leaning toward having both right now, because sometimes, it's hard to give a game a score, you just know you like it.

My problem about having scores is that basically the rating will be done in two different threads then... There is not much point to that...

Well, I figure it was strange to have two threads in the first place, so I suppose they can be combined in this thread. I don't think anyone will post in that other thread anymore with this sticky being here.

-----

So, I've come to the conclusion that I will finish adding the old posts, then add the posts from the other rating thread. In the end, this thread will allow recommendations, and ratings. Seems like the best idea to me.

Hmm, since I don't want to start a new thread and since this is the recommendations thread, perhaps someone could recommend me a game?
I'm looking for a PvP-style game, or PvE (if it's good enough) where you can take over castles or fortresses in a map and upgrade them. I'd prefer it if this game was a third-person or first-person and I don't really care what genre it is. I guess I'm looking for something like Guild Wars World vs World PvP haha, but I'm sure that there are other games that have come up with similar ideas? It doesn't have to be an MMO. It can be any game :)

I think Age of Conan might have something similar. Not sure, but it's F2P, so you could try it, and see what you think. I've never played it, just did a quick Google search.

Is this the game everyone on Guru has been talking about? I googled AoC before (because no-one used the full name of the game), and it came up with a subscription-based game called Age of Camelot or something. But if it was Age of Conan they're referring to, then I'll give it a shot. It sounds pretty epic from the website, saying how you can build your own city and stuff.

Age Of Camelot = Realm vs Realm vs Realm (3 faction pvp). It's by Mythic who then did WAR and messed up reverting to 2 factions. Hence big excitement about GW2's 3 Factions, finally!

You also have Planetside and soon to be Planetside 2 for 3 faction FPSMMO ish game.

Also Regnum Online does multi-factions.

For RTS factions there's dozens out there... Even Stronghold Kingdoms I saw recently but have not played. And Age Of Empires Online??

Yeah, I saw Age of Empires Online on Steam so I'm in the middle f downloading it. I'm also downloading WoW: Cataclysm just to see what the hype is about. I was playing Wrath of the Litch King, but I got bored. No-one wanted to do any dungeons with a nooby level 80 mage :(

Can someone recommend me games that are similar to King's Bountry or Heroes of Might & Magic VI?

I played King's Bounty since a long time now, but it was really fun... and i just started Might & Magic VI yesterday and it's also fun (even while it's limited in some aspects)...

I would be glad to get some recommendations for games like these... where the combat is turn based and you control different units, ect.. :) The whole city building thing is not needed, i don't really like that..

Actually, this pack right here has two similar games:

Future Wars and Grotesque Tactics. Perhaps those will fit your needs.

The first one is not exactly what i'm looking for, but the second one has similar combat, too bad it looks kinda stupid :s

Do you have any other platforms to work with? Fire emblem is the best turn based game series I feel I've ever played, and there's also final fantasy tactics. I suppose there are ways to play the GBA versions of these games on the PC, but I don't know if you want to do that.

Ar tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica

Posted Image

Genre: JRPG(Japanese Role-playing-game), Dating Sim.

System: Playstation 2

Opinion:  Personally, i have to say that for the Playstation 2, this was one of the best JRPG experiences i've ever had on this console,
you know what; scratch that, this is by far the best RPG experience i've ever had, period; and i've played A LOT of rpg's in my time, I am
talk'in old school and new school here, but mostly old school.

For people who love the games from the 16bit &32bit era, you'll feel right at home here. But what definitely made the experience very surreal
for me, was just how magical the game-play was, when then thinking back on other rpg games i thought were
magically amazing at the time (like *cough*Skyrim*cough*), and i can not help but want to beat myself up for letting
this hidden gem pass me by back in 2007, although it didn't come state-side until 2009, so i guess that's not a very large time gap.

Review:  I would write one myself, but someone else has already written one that basically hits the nail on the head with how i feel about
this game, and words it more eloquently then i would.

Brief portion from the IGN review:

Quote

Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica occupies an extremely niche corner of the RPG spectrum. It's a game featuring underage girls and generously-breasted heroines alike in "romantic" situations and heaps on innuendo like developers Banpresto (now a part of Namco Bandai) and Gust and publisher NIS America found tons of the stuff at Costco. So heavy is the hand that guides ATII's lewd-ish narrative and more "personal" scenes that I was frankly a little embarrassed to have anyone overhear or witness me playing it.

It's that kind of dorky. It's also borderline perverted in some cases and to be frank I grew increasingly uncomfortable with the wardrobe choices of some of the characters in the game. To put it modestly, the game is focused at a rather specific kind of gamer and in a bit of contrast to the first game, it's not the ones that like ogling a woman's chest.

There's also a bizarre dynamic in that the game spends ages on the whole process of getting to know the main female characters, exploring their particular emotional hang-ups and personality quirks with a surprisingly adult level of refinement and detail, yet despite all these little neurotic threads that are eventually woven together to make the girls "whole" again, the actual relationships hardly ever seem to progress past the point of schoolyard teasing and pointless flirting. The characters do eventually go through a metamorphosis, but the male/female dynamics almost never make that same leap.

Ah, but here's where the "but" comes into play. Ar Tonelico II is also, unequivocally, one of the best PlayStation 2 RPGs on the system. In fact, it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Mull that over for a second: a game, featuring scenes and situations that I was loathe to expose anyone who knew me to, is also something that I'll recommend to anyone who was a fan of the old 16- and 32-bit RPGs of yore. This is a labor of love, a downright gushing tribute to the kind of RPGs that were previous generations' bread and butter, but it's not entirely resistant to adding in a few new things here and there.
