Highlights from the conference call... may have a separate stream or snippets later since lots are having issues with the download.

It's in development

We stated multiple times in public that we have a small team working on a console version, but that we are fully dedicated to make the most kickass game for PC (I think the official statement did not use the word kickass, in case someone wants to semantically disect my post ;) ).

I didn't think a console version was technically "confirmed", but just a mere possibility in the distant future.

Hmm, if this is true, I'm hoping I can log in with my account on both a console and the PC. Would be fun trying it on the console, though the PC will always be my first choice.

Feeling your post got wrongfully deleted? Thread locked? Want to chat? Send me a PM. I won't bite

Whaat? I just wanna see what they pull off. Good luck ANet! Now if they do pull it off and they can play on the same servers as the PC players then this will be awesome news!

If the console version is true, it would be very interesting to see how it works and where (I mean which machine).

That would make more sense for Blade and soul, but not neccessary gw2. and if it does it will probably be for Sony. Since sony is more open than microsoft.

That is highly unlikely, given how on console you have to go through the console manufacturer and it does them no good.

And it if does happen, I forsee the console crowd being seperated from the PC crowd just like Dc universe online.

10 skills
Profession specific abilities (up to 4 skills)
Weapon swap
Dodge
Interaction (E)
Jump
Sheathe

Will be interesting to see how they do it

Weird... even if this is true and they decide to go through with it I can't see playing an MMO on console to be a satisfactory experience. Also this will probably split the community in half as well if they play on thesame servers because console players will probably (IMO) be much worse at the game compared to mouse and keyboard players because of the way the controls work. So they would get discriminated in groups and would be unwanted in PvP (is how I see it turning out).

Not convinced though until we get an official word on it.

I'm going to say now that I absolutely do not believe that a console version of GW2 will ever be released.

You may quote this back to me if it comes to pass, but even with this conference call I cannot even begin to imagine how that could work.

“We will be considering ‘seasonality factors’ when determining final commercialization (for Blade & Soul and GW2)” referring to the previous end-of-year launch of Aion.

I hope this was referring more to Blade & Soul, I really don't want to wait until Christmas for GW2.

Seconded, but instead of happy i'm quite upset.

......Not like. Going to be 2 different games with different servers i hope at least, just with the same world.

Also, console version = totally new combat, just saying, cuz you can't fit a mmo one in the pad.

(all this admitting a console version is truly in their plans)

I don't see that there would be any problem.
http://www.penny-arc...omic/2007/06/08

:)

TBH, I was surprised to hear this news.    Although I suppose I shouldn't be, didn't Final Fantasy show you can have a console and keyboard population player together?

PvP will be the big issue I would think.   If they do this I wonder if they would separate servers.

That doesn't have nearly as much commands though. They would also have to revamp the UI to be able to navigate through everything with a controller and ground targeted skills would be pure ass to aim with a controller since you wouldn't be able to use your right stick to move the camera then (if you aim  them with the right stick say) and also you wouldn't be able to do it as fast as with keyboard and mouse. Don't see the controller being a fun experience unless they overhaul controls and UI and even gameplay mechanics for the console version, which I don't see happening.

I'll be playing this on my PC, but am glad to hear there are plans to get it on the consoles out there.

EDIT

GWI insider just updated their quote re GW2 on consoles.  The update basically says what we've always known--there is a team looking into it.  No definite yes or no on whether it will be there.

Quote

“[Console] When it comes to Guild Wars 2 as we have announced already, we are in the preparation stage. For other titles we are looking at various options as we speak. So once again, nothing has been finalized yet for me to make specific comments now.”

Goddamnit, I was afraid this would happen.

I hope this doesn't lead to GW2 being "dumbed down" or simplified for the sake of console gaming, even though that sounds like the inevitable outcome.

From a hardware perspective, it could run GW2 on low at 1280x720 and you could figure out a way to map skills ect. to the controller. They could also just state that it's kb+m only.

I'd imagine it'd be PS3 only though. The XBL network is too restrictive and doesn't generally allow cross platform.

Possibly. It depends on the input devices.

Boom console release.

Called it

EDIT: How do you guys not like an MMO like GW2 being on console................ This isn't an fps.  Some people may actually prefer playing with controllers.  You can also get keyboard/mouse for consoles.

GW2 on consoles brings so many more players and competition to the game.  Amazing.

All consoles have usb ports. Would possibly require Mouse and keyboard. It would basically be the same as playing on the PC.

I hope it's not true because I do not like the idea of an MMORPG on consoles (DC Universe for example), it seperates the community.

I agree with Chalky. A console version will never happen. I just can't see it... and I don't know why you would want to play it on a console.. they couldn't do the game justice.

Good decision for the console port, if it's true. Now is the perfect time to bring a solid MMO to the console masses, so why not GW2.
