Logic says you will only get matched against servers within your region NA vs NA, EU vs EU, Russia vs Russia.. okay not quite the Russia part, but you get it! especially since we'll probably have enough servers to do so. Then again, nothing I can pull out and say it's been confirmed.

It's a shame people outside these two major clusters (US/EU) will suffer with increased ping/lag if their region doesn't have the population/infrastructure to support dedicated local servers (compounded by the requirement to have multiple WvW servers in a cluster for healthy rotations)

(watch from 1:24 > 2:30)

That is EU to US, raising this point to highlight possible problems with Au to US

Disclaimer: Beta is Beta, further optimization/network/code tweaks will no doubt lessen this effect before launch.

Broken record I know and there are countless threads on this topic, but as an Australian GW2 dedicated fanboi I feel it has to be mentioned (and yeah I dislike all the Au community rants/multiple topics too)

There's absolutely no way they'd pair up servers that are across the world from one another.

It would be a disaster.

That was a press only beta, I think there were only a few servers in there because of the amount of people.

Has it been said somewhere that they are going to have region locks on servers?

They used to in GW1 and it worked pretty well. The only thing that didn't work was the way they had linked PvP with access to the only 'end game' PVE content

gotta say i agree with this i didnt experience much problem with this in gw1 actually i havae to say i HOPE they make it so that europe and russia and US get to fight against each other.. i mean am i the only one thinking epic battle of all times ? battle of the giants XD

also what on earth is making ppl think that servers will only be located in EU and US ?? if that were true i highly doubt that Anet would have gone through so much trouble trying to promote the game in asia. i also dont get why the Aussies are worried wether Anet is gonna forget about them in that regard either. i will admit that i dont know this for sure though but i dont think there were any problems for australian in GW1 ? please correct me if im wrong though

there will obviously be Korean servers, but those will most likely be restricted to Koreans. But Korea is a much much bigger market than Oz, so the chances of an Oceanic server is incredibly low and I don't blame Anet for that.

Personally, I bought GW1 on release day and had zero lag problems for the first 2-3 years, because even though there was a slight delay, it was a consistent delay so you can learn to adapt to it. I only started having lag problems in recent years where my ping would be all over the place from time to time.

I saw this video, but you must remember, that might have been an isolated issue, probably an issue with that one thief, maybe having a lagspike.

As you can see, everything else the yogscast experienced playing on NA servers worked perfectly.

This is not the place to share your concern on lag issues when you live outside of the hotspots, people, no matter how serious those problems will be. We've got a thread on that over here.
