Can't say I'm surprised you have to go to a trainer and spend a small fee to reset your traits. It was nice watching players to do it anywhere for free in the press beta though.

Very interesting! Made me a lot more excited for the trait system than I had been. ^^

Thief

    Deadly Arts: Power and Expertise.
    Critical Strikes: Precision and Prowess.
    Shadow Arts: Toughness and Compassion.
    Acrobatics: Vitality and Concentration.
    Trickery: Malice and Guile.

Me thinky typo.

----------

This horrible display of human tendency to mess up on really small things makes me not want to get the game now, they are so unprofessional.
Just kidding, I love them.

I like the new trait system! And how it's important to pick traits well, because it will take some little money and an NPC to change your traits, but still be easy and allow much diversity in your traits.

Well, this certainly changes much.

Back to the drawing board for the theory crafters.

I like the new attributes. Especially profession specific ones.

I was just hoping for a more interesting mesmer attribute. :(

Nope.

It's a word. :) Synonym of ruse.
Pretty interesting though, I'm not surprised that we have to visit a trainer to reset, but at least it's possible. I'm so a noob in building characters that my fear is always the impossibility to restart.

Looking forward trying it.

Looks like a pretty good system, similar enough to Talents in other MMOs to not alienate people but also not too many of the boring 10% more damage from fireball talents, at least from looking at the ones used as an example at the end.

After a character has spent their trait points, they can visit a trainer to reset their traits and refund their previously spent points for a small fee.
WOOT! Now I can re-spec on my crap-selling/armour fixing trips!

Not really fond of the fee for respecing. Doesn't make much sense to me to be able to change skills freely while the traits linked to those skills require a fee. I wonder if the fee will be needed only for a full respec, or if changing a major trait in the same line (in other words, without rearranging trait points) would require doing a full respec first as well.

Sooo.... in order for us to respec are traits we pay a fee at the trainer?....come on you gotta be kidding me....I mean I understand they need a gold sink but why this?. I don't want to travel back to pay my trainer to respec my traits, that just killed my freedom to respec where ever I go...

So basically, the class with the highest base compassion is "asked" to be the healer? Also, what's the difference in malice and expertise if most condition removal skills (in case of guardian, all of them) get removed at the same time?

If they kept the last 4 and just added profession specific attributes, that would have been so much better

I think he meant Guile being mesmer specific attribute shown on Thief.

They completely ruined the very fundations of what they claim this game is about.

the whole point in GW1 was that you could change your attributes and have several armor sets so you could eventually become everything and beat whatever challenge you've been facing...

the whole concept of respeccing costs a fee is just wrong! GW, as much as it turned to be a build wars, was about building yourself and adjust yourself. the whole point was that there were no pernament stuff!

+ Anet said they wanted you to experiment and change stuff - why forcing you making ireversable choices?

don't get me wrong, I love this game and a huge fan. but this? this just ruins stuff... badly.

considering thats lower recharge time on stuns and reflective shields.. I'd say that's nothing to scoff at from a function standpoint... certainly beats lower recharge on 'steal' for the thief.. imo

Well some user on this forum made a post explaining the system just as fine ANet did now so nothing new here for me. I'm not sure how I feel about the new system, I reserve my opinion until I play the game as a whole.

the fee is only needed to re-specc your trait points, and not to choose new major traits within the already specced trait line. You can swap them out if you are not in combat. Only if you want to specc in different trait lines or get your points back, you need to pay that fee (and it is also free any time you buy that training manual)

So basically, I can max out 2 elements at a time. If I want to play the other 2 elements, I have to pay a fee and respec?

They took the considerable time and effort into typing: "small" before "fee". It's probably going to be 50 copper things or less, really easily: just to let you know that your trait picks will affect your character until you choose to go a different path.
Still easy to change. Really easy to change compared to other games.

Nice article.  This system seems to have a lot of possibilities for customization.  Looks like a lot of fun.  No way to know for sure though until the game is out.

What exactly is re-spec fee?
Do you re-spec with gold or real money?

Probably in-game gold...

The elemental lines don't improve the specific element, they improve your character in different ways. This is not a WoW talent system.
