Trailer showing new Wakefield map released, live stream coming Dec. 20
NEW YORK — December 17, 2012 — The battles between the houses of York and Lancaster show no signs of slowing down, with heroic knights remaining locked in combat as the cold winter months begin. Paradox Interactive has announced that the newest free content update for War of the Roses, entitled “Winter Has Arrived,” will be available Dec. 19 and includes new armor and weaponry, plus two brand new snow-covered maps based on the historic battles of Wakefield and Towton.
The truly pious will also be able to wield the Dagger and Sword of Mary for Christ’s Mass, inspired by medieval depictions of the Virgin Mary, laden with holy symbols. Both weapons will be available Friday, Dec. 21, at a special holiday price. But that mercy will expire on Dec. 26, at which point the prices will rise to the cost of a King's bounty!
Join Paradox Interactive this Thursday, Dec. 20, at 7pm GMT / 11am PST for a special War of the Roses broadcast as they demonstrate both new maps and show off all the new content. New “Pitched Battle” Game Mode Rides into Open Beta, Live Stream Coming Wednesday NEW YORK - November 19, 2012 -
Spoiler
Hear ye! The first in a series of monthly content updates for War of the Roses, the medieval brawler from Paradox Interactive, is arriving this Wednesday. The update introduces a wealth of new armaments to every knight’s arsenal, including the Kingmaker sword, a finely crafted piece of steel brandished by legendary English nobleman Richard Neville, otherwise known as Warwick the Kingmaker. A new suit of heavy armor will also be available to choose with different paint options to customize one’s fearsome look. One new helmet, four new visors, and seven new weapons, including the gothic mace, the halberd, and the horn-spanned crossbow, will also join the fray.
Players will also be introduced to a new game mode, henceforth known as “Pitched Battle,” which challenges knights to take greater care with their lives – since, in Pitched Battle, death is final.
Pitched Battle mode will begin an Open Beta when the update arrives, and all War of the Roses players are welcome to join. Simply find a game in the server browser that is listed as being in Pitched Battle mode, and join the game normally. In Pitched Battle, each knight has only one life to risk on the battlefield per round; when a combatant perishes, he cannot return to the fight until the next match. Bandaging one’s wounds and reviving teammates will be crucial to victory, and executing opponents to keep them out of the fight will decide which is the last team standing.
Join Paradox Interactive this Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 6pm GMT / 10am PST for a special War of the Roses broadcast as they demonstrate Pitched Battle and show off all the new content. To get a front row seat to all the medieval mayhem, tune into the official Paradox Interactive TwitchTV channel at www.twitchtv.com/paradoxinteractive.
Edit 15th October - competition is over
Spoiler
Edit: 9th October 2012
******************************************** I have a WotR game key to give away ( please note you need to have a steam account to use it).
Fatshark, the creators of WotR tend use fish related names, eg Bitsquid for their engine.
Suggest what fish related name they could use for their players ^^ Explanations are most welcome but not required.
So for example: instead of saying
'The players are really happy at the pretty graphics on the new game'
they would say
'The Antarctic cod are really happy at the pretty graphics on the new game'
The winner will be announced on Monday 15th October

Mount and Blade is a great Game and this looks to be even better (although the video is horribly violent)
GDC 2012 SAN FRANCISCO – March 8th, 2012 – You’re wiping blood off the *****ed armor you donned today, a mixture of your own sanguine fluid and the foe lying dead at your feet. Good thing you chose the poleaxe over a sword, it was the extra reach that gave you this particular victory, but will it save you from the crossbow bolt zipping toward your head? It won’t. You’ve just encountered your first glimpse into War of the Roses, and the battle has you thirsting for more.
Paradox Interactive and Fatshark today unveiled the first-ever gameplay trailer for War of the Roses, an ambitious and gritty multiplayer action game coming to PC, giving players a front row seat to an epic medieval battle taking place this fall—their own. The newly released video is the first in a set of gameplay trailers dubbed the “Death Before Dishonor” series, scheduled to be released in steady intervals until the game’s launch this fall. Over 60 different weapons to choose from, tiered skill trees within a fully-fleshed leveling system, team-based tactical challenges as well as deathmatches for soloists, and steel-in-your-face action are just a taste of what War of the Roses will offer.
View “Death before Dishonor” episode 1 and don’t shake in your muddied mail boots just yet, the battle hasn’t even begun:
GamesRadar 4/5
"War of the Roses is an online experience unlike the vast majority of competitive war games out there. After you get over the initial clunkiness of the controls, wading into battle with a massive two-handed sword and bringing it down on some poor soldier's head is even more exhilarating than getting a multikill in most online shooters. The combat is fast-paced and the customization is addictive. If you’re looking for a competitive online experience that is a little out of the ordinary, but is immensely entertaining, War of the Roses is a game that you won't want to miss."
Strategy Informer 8/10
"But at the end of the day, you get out of this game what you put in – Skill Is not an unlock, is the motto the guys are going with at the moment. In a way, this game could turn out to be more skill-orientated than Counter-Strike. It’s definitely going to be punishing to casual players or people who simply aren’t that good, but if you do manage to get to grips with it, it’s very rewarding."
Dealspwn 8/10
"The net result is that War Of The Roses manages to find a balance between brutal, even miserable, authenticity and ridiculous fun. Though it's not a pretty game by any means, showcasing some stiff animations and middling texture work, battles are visceral and utterly barmy when 64 players enter the fray. Each kill is truly earned, leading to an intense feeling of satisfaction every time you stand over a downed foe begging for mercy - and receive only an intimate dagger thrust."
Eurogamer 8/10
"War of the Roses is modest and pared-down, then - but it offers a challenging, chaotic and sometimes comic take on multiplayer. It's an innovative game and I'd like to see it succeed, I'd like to see it grow and, quite honestly, I'd like to see it turn into an eSport."
BeefJack Recommended
"There’s certainly a sense of scale and disorganised brilliance to the conflicts when enough players get together (the game supports up to 64 at once), slowly advancing, retreating, healing and executing the bodies littering the ground. With so many different build options on offer too, it’s rare you’ll find another fighter on the battlefield quite like you - especially with some of the absurd headgear to choose from. But focusing on the tight battles between individuals amid the madness, where death is usually only a mistimed attack away, is where War of the Roses blossoms wonderfully."
GamerZines 8/10
"Some games take advantage of a hole in the market, others build on the success of their competitors, and the rare few are a labour of love. That’s exactly what War of the Roses is, an obscure third-person multiplayer love letter to medieval combat during a fifteenth century dynasty war. A theatre where clunking metallic warriors with big swords face down each other while archers try and snipe them from afar before being crushed by a lancer charge from an opportunistic, yet skilled, rider."
Forbes
“The moment I decided I really liked Fatshark’s War of the Roses was when I used my Longbowman to take down three Lancastrians in a row.” “…this is a game that should give players tons of replay value and a one-of-a-kind Medieval combat experience.”
Elder-Geek 4/5 Worth buying
If you think you’ve got what it takes to put down your sniper rifles and grenade launchers, and pick up a sword, shield, and lance, then we’ll gladly meet you face to face on the battlefield.
Gamer.no 8/10 (Norwegian)
"War of the Roses lykkes med å være et dypt, moderne slåssespill i middelalderen, og jeg ser for meg mye Rosekrig framover."
Approx translation: "War of the Roses succeeds in being a deep, modern, fighting game in the Middle Ages, and I see a lot of Rose wars in my future"
Meristation 8/10 (Spanish)
“War of the Roses is a fresh and addictive title that uses a setting rarely exploited in the genre.”
Multiplayer.it 75%
“In War of the Roses physics of the clashes is valid, the feeling of control over the character is almost always good and the skill of the player counts for a lot.”
I read about it
Got disappoint that it is linear, was hoping for something like mount & blade
Alas, m&b2 Is on the works anyway, maybe they will borrow War of the Roses engine as engine exchange in paradox is strong
It looks pretty fun. It has similar combat to M&B but is different style of game so they shouldn't really be compared. Plus all the footage you are seeing is pre alpha so there will be bugs that will eventually be fixed.
I read the thread title, saw, "death before dishonor" and I thought it was someone trying to make a Dragonlance game based off one of the side story books. I was sorely disappointed when I actually read the thread and watched the trailer >:

That's because it IS M&B. Or at least the same engine. The game looks hillariously bad IMO and I seriously don't like the whole directional swinging thing they do in 'medieval FPS' games.
Crappy game in my view. I have seen better and it made little sense to me. I mean if you are going to release something make it a trailor that explains what the game is about. and At first I thought it would be like Assassin creed since it is a war of roses but since you have to do everything in order it made me go.. Uh next !
Anyway the WAr of the roses was a war between two families right ?. So you expect a lot more battles and assassinations and you going around as a family member trying to get support for your family. This game is.. What just fight fight fight .. Nope its not going to make it.
Edit - was that suppose to be a army.. Because its to small to be one.. And its only fighting which would be alright.. but I just feel its missing something important.. Like a good reason to fight all the time. And the reason behind it.. And you growing your army to fight the other families.. This just looks like mindless killing.
And on that combat note.. It just looked like crap. I mean a stab to the face their is not enough blood for that and it just looked horrible
The Wars of the Roses were a series of dynastic civil wars fought for the crown of England - not just a family feud.
The mutiplayer gameplay is battles, if you do not enjoy team fighting against other people then I guess it is not for you. The game is still pre alpha so you wouldn't expect them to show large scale battles yet, I expect that will come.

I played it at PAXEAST this year and it looked really good and played just fine. I have an alpha key, but I have yet to install it as I just got a computer capable of running it. I'll post if I get a chance to play it.
I've only really seen the multiplayer but it looks good. Nice, visceral combat. Though I wish it was more like mount and blade, ie each player bringing in a little army and seeing those armies clash. A little strategy in there instead of just a deathmatch.
Well.. If you are gung-ho about getting yourself into the BETA for War of the Roses you can be cheap and referr five of your alternate emails to sign up for the BETA for gauranteed access.
Looks kind of interesting, but more like an incomplete game. They need siege weapons, conquest mode, tactical formations, coordination, etc... I always wanted someone to just remake the old age of empires with better graphics, but exactly the same gameplay.

Haven't played any mount and blade games but the pvp in this looks really fun. I'm at a loss as to what the storymode consists of though.
? I thought the title gave it away.
The game could have done with little more 'it'll be ready when it's ready' ^^ But even so it is fun to play and there will be more game modes and balancing asap.
