I think I'd like to try this when it comes out, maybe I'll be tired of Tribes by then. Vanu Sovereignty look pretty good so apologies for burdening your faction with my ineptitude ^_^

I just wanna get into beta so I can choose once and for all either the NC or the Vanu.
I got the Strumgrenadiers' recruiter asking if I want to join them in the NC, which is not helping.

For those who don't know the SG is kinda the prominent outfit of the NC.  They are not the biggest but they are by far the most coordinated and most successful of them all back in Ps1.  I wanna join the Vanu because they have laser weapons and an interesting cause, but the NC have reavers, and I wanna blow stuff up...  Excessively.  Guess I can do that in a scythe or other later Vanu vehicle, but I dunno to what extent.

I do wanna see monster vehicles that cost an excessive number of resources though, like a 5-8 man bomber or some 6 man supertank.

Come with the Vanu, and embrace the future. The rebel aircraft are nothing when they are left in a smoldering wreckage. The Scythe's superior handling and maneuverability ensure the pilot's safety and the mission's completion.

Waiting on the beta for this. Go Barney or Go Home.  Don't intend to join a clan, however.  Like my coworker, Galse, I do enjoy the free roaming.

From what I heard, if you really wanna experience every benefit of Planetside, joining an outfit is necessary.  Wouldn't mind a well coordinated and thought out assault and steadfast teamwork on defense.

80% of it is a zergfest.  However, if you want to solo, and stay away from the big stuff, you won't find much to do.  Thing about Planetside, it is 100% PVP in HUGE areas.  If you arn't where the action is, you get sight seeing, about it, and the chance to get randomly ganked.

Coordination is awesome though, and makes a nice dent into an enemies defenses (Not sure about PS2, considering how they have bases laid out now).  Battles could last in stairwells for hours, but a coordinated team can take an alternate route, and force them to retreat from the Stairwell, letting your main force zerg in.

Who said staying away from the action? :P  Anyone who has seen Galse in PS1, for instance, knows he just floats in.  Typically badmouths whoever is coordinating the VS because he primes a base for cap, tells the leaders it's ready to be taken easily, and they either wait until its too late, continue attacking a base they can't secure easily, or downright ignore him.

Also tends to troll around with the other factions.

Geforce is giving away some beta keys to the upcoming beta weekend on the 17th-19th. Worth a try for free if anyone is looking to get one.

A friend of mine is miffed about the Vanu MAX special ability: 5 fast steps.

C'mon, not even a barely controllable full burn jump pack on a cool-down timer?  Really?  What do the others get?  A defense shield for one, but what does the other get?

My friend said this:

Right now if they gave anything else for the MAX it would totally throw the balance away
Light assault is already useless at this stage because maxes mow them down,Heavy assault have shields and they can't destroy vehicles/base equipment

Heck its hard to down a MAX even with a heavy assault

They got the balance more or less right in the first installment.  I don't see why they can't port some of the relative numbers and capabilities over.  I have not played PS1, but he regales me of stories where he's jump jetting right along with enemy vehicles in his MAX.

Also complains about the damage nerfs to the magmower's cannon and vanu weapons not being hitscan despite being lasers, or something like that.  I donno.  But a very quick 5 step dash on a MAX unit for a suit ability?  C'mon, that's sad no matter how you look at it! XD

Only game that will take time away from GW2 for me.

Currently just playing SMITE to kill time for release.

All the maxes have the same ability right now, the only difference is that NC have scattercannon which completely obliterates infantry on indoors and at times, other MAXes aswell

The NDA for the Planetside 2 beta is now officially lifted.
So yeah... now that I can openly say what I think about game so far.

Beta in it's case is indeed a beta, and tech test was even more rough but core gameplay is there and it works rather well.
And my gosh, flying a fighter (mosquito in my case) is amazing experience.
I may record some clips if I will ever have too much time, but no promises.

All I can say is now that NCsoft is closing City Of Heroes, the New Conglomerate seem far less appealing.  I may be going Vanu :)

My only prob with that atm is the vanu's damage debuff at a range.  It's a HUGE strategic hurdle.  They may be good in short-Medium range combat but they have almost nothing against tanks being used as artillery besides flying vehicles.

Well, got in beta like yesterday.

Crappy PC is crappy (mine), but i've appreciated a LOT the incredible amount of customization (unlike GW2) of the graphic setting, even out of the game touching the right document.

About the game itself, needs polish for sure, some balancing and a couple of features, but overall the core is there - grab your weapons and go shoot for the glory of the Van.... ermh, your side.

How much fun you have in Planetside 2 is totally dependent on how great your machine is.

I have two beta keys. Anybody want to trade?

Im had alot of fun when i was in a group that was communicating, alot of fun compared to just being by myself.
I should probably look for a guild in PS2.

It's a month old, but you'll get some laughs out of it. I was chuckling hysterically around 0:16:40, and also around 0:19:20, where he goes for an, ahem, troop pickup

Well, watched an interesting video by TB about Planetside 2. He was not very nice about how he feels things are developing for the game - he was quite brutal in his opinions. And if there is any truth to them, I feel sad for people waiting to play this game - as it seems it's being rushed out the door before it's ready, filled with bugs, potentially PtW cash-shop, massive changes happening still, huge balance issue's and generally it's not ready for release. Although to note - this is just 1 person's viewpoints, but still something to think about.

Have a moderation related issue? Send me a PM

Alot of these comments remind me of GW2, you can decide how you feel about that. Legitimate gripes, but most of them awful nitpicky, and many things like actual balance can't really shake out until you have massive numbers of players participating. Not the kind of things you would see game reviewers tank a game for, albeit it could be an issue for the populations in a month or two.

F2P games can also afford to release early, frankly. That's the whole point. When interested people show up 6 months from now, they don't have to think about whether to open their wallet to try something out. Retail boxes fare far worse that way. In that respect, releasing in the November window with so much competition might be a GOOD thing, only their stronger fans will show up at first to help them continue to "beta" and refine the game.
