Just curious about your opinions... if I lay down a portal in the middle of combat for me to use, I picture my allies accidentally going thru and it screwing up their attacks.  I am looking forward to using portals as one of my utility skills as it looks like super fun to mess with enemies, but I am afraid I will be messing with my allies as well with a portal that just gets in their way in the heat of battle.

pretty sure that you and your allies can see where the portal is. so if they're not paying attention and accidentally go into a portal that's really their own fault

Yeah, they aren't exactly subtle. In regards to your question, yes, it would appear that teleportation is instant, and strictly contingent on portal entry, so an ally unintentionally crossing a mesmer portal would be teleported against their will.

If you do it in the middle of a big fight, yes.  Wonder if they'll let us turn on/off auto portaling through allies portals...

Mesmer's, the new trolls of Guild Wars.
I can picture some evil stuff being done with those portals, esspecially if you exit the way you were running when you entered xD

A simple solution would be to not use it in WvW pvp zerg situations unless its to help the golem's travel to keeps.

On the other hand it wont necessarily ruin your allies attacks, it may just make them re-evaluate which target they are killing or simply re enter the portal. (unless your versing a thief or another mesmer, then he will be angry lol)

if anything, the portal needs a longer duration than 12 seconds, only an idiot would play piggy in the middle with a Mesmer in pvp. I would pay to watch it to xD

# The distance between two portals is restricted to radar range.
# A chain of portals can be created by placing a new portal on a secondary portal. Using this method allows the player and allies to enter the first portal and exit at the final portal in the chain.
# Portals have a duration of approximately 12 seconds

I was under the impression that you were only teleported if you crossed the portal threshold from the outside. Meaning that even if you dropped it under your allies in the middle of a fight, they would not just be teleported against their will. And even if those allies accidentally crossed that threshold all they would really need to do is go back through the portal to get back to the fight.

All that said, as the one spell that can restrict your own team's movement, the mesmer portal has definite griefing potential.

What if they just made it so that allies have to click on the portal and the caster can just run through it normally?

I dont know about messing up peoples attacks but I can see trolls placing portals in tight choke points of keeps and bridges.

choke points yes, but its the exit portal at cliff top griefing that I'm concerned about. It is on a 12 sec duration 60 sec cool down, so its not that evil

If you create the first portal how long can you wait with creating the second portal until the first disappears

Probably they will be useful only to the players in the party. In PvP to all, but there you wouldnt want to screw your team :D

I'm sure there'll be plenty of portal-trolling in fun places.  Pop a portal in a camp fire then  toss one under an ally while they're AFK.  They wake up and find themselves standing in someone's firepit.  Or dead.  Hopefully not dead!

I think in legitimate PvP/WvW, people will probably not be total dicks about it.  GW2 seems intensely social that a bad egg is going to be tossed away pretty quick.

I also can't wait for the early-morning run where 20+ mesmers line up with synchronized portaling to capture a relic (orb? whatever they are) in under a minute.  Going to take a LOT of work, but going to be amazing.

I'd say portal is at it's ebst in dungeons mostly. Using the Portal to dodge the trap room and allow your team to safely get through = awesome.

I was giving this some thought and came up with a potential problem.  Not that I'd expect it to happen but it would be nice if there was a way to designate your portal from others.  I haven't run across a video yet where multiple Mesmers were using these at the same time.

My only way of currently identifying it would be to maybe allow your guild symbol to show up over it.  Yeah sure there will likely be more Mesmers in a single guild but I think it's better than nothing.
