Spoke with them at noon today. They seemed adamant about the email thing. But it all sounds fishy.

Talked with the store manager and the guy I've seen at my GS the last few times I've been in asking about Pre-purchase and whatnot.

I first asked if they had anymore information about the GW2 Pre-purchase, which sent the kid on a typing frenzy on his machine, and while he did thatn I talked to the manager.  The manager was adamant that as a PowerUp Pro Rewards Member(silver card) that I'd be seeing the beta key in my "My Digital Locker" section of my account on poweruprewards.com.  I didn't think to ask about any non-pro member.  Whenever I used the words "pre-purchase" instead of "pre-order" he'd say pre-order.  And when I explained the difference of opinions the community has been getting from GS about how the beta keys were being handed out, he said something to the effect of "it's not our fault, it's HQ's."  I agreed and said that it's the responsibility of the distributor's and the retailer's to make this process as smooth as possible.

At which point the other clerk finally had something printing from his register which indicated a SKU but the inability to actually print out what the SKU was for, which was purportedly the BWE key.  I hadn't read most of today's replies in this thread before heading to my local GS, so this isn't really a surprise, but I haven't seen/heard about the poweruprewards thing coming into play.  I sincerely hope they choose one method of delivery and stick with it, be that receipt, code box, or e-mail.

You're welcome!

The ironic thing is we are back where we were when I first started this thread on April 3!

(A GameStop rep told me you could convert pre-order to pre-purchase online... so I quickly pre-ordered.  Then I was told the first guy I talked to was wrong, and got emails "confirming" you could not pre-purchase online at all!   It's been a crazy week, and a crazy ride, and it ain't over yet!)

I had a similar experience today:

Well this is an interesting turn of events.

I just came back from work (GS) and my store is going to be distributing the codes through receipts. My manager showed me that the codes are in our system and are labeled as "Beta/DLC" code. I saw this with my own eyes, she tried printing out a code but the system was not allowing her. She told me that she won't be able to print out the codes until tomorrow, since that is when the pre-purchase program starts.

I asked her how will we be converting pre-orders into pre-purchases but she wasn't informed on that. She told me that there is a possibility that she will get an e-mail tomorrow morning regarding that info.

My statement on twitter was aimed at physical versions of the game. Sorry for any confusion. What Mike said is absolutely correct.

A reservation is not the same as a prepurchase. If you previously placed a reservation, you should contact your retailer on April 10 and confirm that they will charge you the full purchase price on that date and send you a key that gives you access to beta events.

They charged me $65 for the Standered edition pre purchase. So are they saying they are going to charge me again for something I already paided for because they told me it was 65$ for the pre purchase ?. And that I was reserving it for april 10 when they give me beta key ?. and that I was told to come in April 10 and then come again when they release the game. So now what ?

unless this is only for collectors edition of the game ?.

I'm curious about the access to the beta. It specifically states you only get access to Beta Weekend Events. Is the beta normally only available during the weekends or is it always playable (except during downtime)?

Will pre-purchasers only get to play during these time-limited events? If so, thats pretty lame.

Only during the Weekends. But now if you look at all this problems we have with the pre purchase. I am starting to regret paying the 65 dollars for what i assumed was the Reservation for my Pre purchase on april 10. I mean its so confusing that its not worth doing now it seems.

I already paid for me and my brother. So hopefully I get what I paided for. If not.. I am going to be really angry

So basically anyone who pre-ordered already from Amazon expecting to get a physical copy are SOL? I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. Amazon sells/ships game boxes. I don't see any reason why they would go digital only for this game.

Even if it means waiting until after release and missing out on beta/not getting the pre purchase box.

Apparently it goes to those that went and put down a reservation for a pre purchase from game stop from what it seems like. Apparently you could not even do that. And from what I am reading it seems we might have to pay again ?. although I pay 65 dollars for the pre purchase standered edition. So what did i pay 65 dollars for and was told to come to GS on april 10 to get my beta key ?

Well, I called a gamestop that today told me for the standard edition they were only selling the digital tomorrow (no box and no reason to return later).  I went by a best buy to check to see if they had got theirs in and the guy for the games area knew nothing about it and went in the back, said he didn't have anything back there either.  Called another Best Buy and she went and looked and I "think" she said they had black boxes (which would be pre-order).

This whole thing is being executed like it was handled by the Three Stooges.

I'm... I'm sorry but something is really bothering me.

"Paided" is not a word. "Paid" would be the correct form.

OK, you guys are talking about 2 different things.

1.  Amazon will not do pre-purchase on physical copies of GW2.  Confirmed.

2.  GameStop should work with you to convert your pre-order to a pre-purchase.  That might require you to cancel one order, get a refund, and pay again.  Or they might be able to transfer your pre-order to a pre-purchase automagically.  I don't know.

And why is Amazon not doing physical copies? That seems like bullshit to me. I have been ordering games from them for years; even MMOs, and none of them have been 'digital download'.

Amazon is shipping physical boxes on launch. But there system can't handle pre-purchase. So - you will not be able to get a CE from them (which is only available as a physical box). Please read the link I posted a few posts above this one for clarity.

Anyone here pre-purchasing directly from NCSoft? I think its probably the hassle-free solution... unless you get the CE version. Though I just want the statue -.-

But the woman told me their was no difference between a Pre order and a Pre purchase !. I am not going to pay again just because they gave me the wrong information. The sales woman said their is no difference between the two and that she told me to come in on the 10 of April to get the beta key. So if I have to pay again then its not worth it. Because I am not going to spend more money on something I was told that i could get my Beta key with.

So if she says pay again. I am going to refuse. I paid 65 dollars already for the beta key and the game itself. So I hope I do not have to pay again

If she told you to come back on April 10 (tomorrow) then she probably put you on pre-purchase.

If you paid for the game in full, there should be little problem getting a beta key tomorrow.

But yes, you have to pre-purchase the game to get guaranteed beta access. (which if you paid $65 for standard edition, it sounds like you did).

As did I. I paid in full for the CE. I just wish I knew how they would handle it. I hate worrying.

Everybody just needs to take a breath, think of a fluffy bunny, and chill.

Just call or go into gamestop tomorrow and ask about the changing your pre-order to a pre-purchase. You aren't paying for the game twice. You aren't being shafted money. Its just changing the specifics of what you're buying. And (with any luck) after tomorrow you won't have to worry about anything else!

Does Best Buy's website sell pre-purchase CE like Gamestop.com was confirmed to do?
