I can potentially see the warrior, the necromancer and thief, and maybe the mesmer as being great 1v1 classes.

Others? Too many trade offs.

Elementalist is very squishy naturally.
Ranger is squishy and relies on wonky pet.
Guardian is squishy, without much spike damage.
Engineer does not have many options. Turrets are a no no. Gadgets are not damage focused. Elixirs are support. Kits? Perhaps, but the numbers seen on em suggest low damage.

I'm afraid I just simply disagree with you. Guardians are anything but squishy. And they have very moderate damage that can be sustained for a long fight as they are very survivable. Rangers have medium armor and health, which means they really aren't squishy. They do pretty sick single-target damage which makes them better at 1v1. The pet adds a 2nd enemy that your opponent must defeat.

Elementalists are only squishy when they only focus on damage. I did some theorycrafting and made an Ele that I suspect would be very survivable. Just gotta focus less on Fire and more on Earth. Something I haven't seen any videos do.

I talk about squishy, in terms of health and mitigating abilities.

I haven't seen many ranger abilities which mitigate damage, nor do I believe that lowest armor+lowest health can be properly mitigated by abilities for the elementalist.

In the case of the guardian, they have lowest health, and their heals have long cooldowns.

And I would not worry about the pet frankly. It will probably get stuck on some grass on the way, or stand next to me.

Rangers have high mobility to mitigate damage through dodging, plus the pet AI isn't going to stay broken. Assuming that it will is a very horrible way to judge the class. Once the pet does what it is supposed to do it will be important to kill or control.

Elementalists have invulernability, but I agree that their defenses are too low for their light armor and lowest health pool. Remember tho, that there isn't a huge difference between armor sets (somebody did the research, look up the thread). There is a pretty big difference in health pools though. I think the current problem is less about balance and more of "I'm a mage, I don't have to worry about taking damage" mentality in new players right now.

Guardians have so much defense, constant regen, shields, CC, and several means of healing. Everyone's complaint is that they live TOO LONG. Your argument is invalid.

Lel, they live too long because they got this excellent new elite that everyone is no doubt abusing.

But the fact remains, they have among the lowest health. And that to me, weighs them down. Besides however, survivibility is not all, you have to kill them as well. And the Guardian seems to have little burst damage. Maybe some nice condition damage and control, but not burst.

Yet they deal consistent moderate damage alongside periodic burning. They're meant to survive the somewhat prolonged fight, while they kill their enemy with a steady stream of damage.

The invulnerability skill is a 3-4s long duration on a one minute CD this is nothing!

With all the gap closer, snare, teleport, this definetely it's not a game where you can play the mage archetype at all, we don't get to dodge more than others, actually anet force you to take  a traits in order to increase your dodging ability..awe

And yet almost all spells can be cast on the move, so I think it somehow balances out.

Ideally, there won't be a "best" 1v1 class.

However, I feel that Necro's will have an edge at first.

Bit of understatement? That 3s is enough to completely negate a spike or escape a nasty AoE. It's certainly not nothing (Distortion provides a similar effect on the same CD).

I played a thief and was doing Ok in PvP. And then another thief came along out in the mists and asked me if I was enjoying my dual daggers. I said "Pretty well so far." The guy had me follow him to the golems and he was slaughtering them. He told me how to make a dual pistol build with my daggers as secondaries. I spent the rest of the Beta getting crits that rolled from 1k-12k dmg. And was able to jump into crowds at melee range and AoE people like crazy with daggers. The build is somewhat squishy, but with 14k HP. My last game I went on a rampage. In the limited time I had to PvP over the weekend (considering PvP was down most of Saturday) I unlocked studded gloves, shoulders, and leggings, Exotic pistols, two dyes, two inventory bags, and a whole lot of stuff I couldn't use. That being said, I don't think this game is going to be so much about what class you role as it is going to be about how you stat and how good you are with said class.

"Signet of the Beastmaster" trait in the marksmanship branch combined with the utility skill, "Signet of Stone".  Lewis B tried it multiple times in his video and it didn't work.
It definitely worked in BWE2, and most probably in BWE1 as well.

Thief? I'd put them at the worst spot, really. I've only seen them being useful when attacking grouped with other profs, usually backstabbing you when you're busy with something else. They're the first to fall when targeted.

It's a toss-up between a glass cannon guardian or glass cannon warrior.

Read the date on that post.  You obviously are new here.  It was not working before any BWE and it was a 10s invulnerability back then (during the press weekend events).  You should probably do some research before you post.
